Metal Gear Rising spoiler thread: God Bless America!

my point exactly. so you agree.

thought i was in bizzaro world for a sec.

No it is morbid, that kind of thing is what really creeps me out about the plot of Ghost in the Shell.

and after that you're back to gleefully hacking people to tiny pieces and feasting on their spines.

yea, hacking for the kids. ^^

Aw, she was cute. I didn't really like her in MGS4, though.

She was kind of annoying in here, not too bad though. If they end up having that cyborg Jar-Jar Binks pairing up with her though I would be super pissed. I could deal with the Meryl and Johnny pairing, but that guy has subtitles for his subtitles.

I gotta say, I didn't really like Raiden's character arc in this game.

It didn't feel like he got a big redemptive moment where he realized he didn't have to be Jack the Ripper. It ultimately worked out that way, but it just sort of came and went.

Interesting, because that's not what happened in my interpretation. He accepted Jack the Ripper as part of him from what I've seen. I'm not sure what redemptive moment your talking about.

i have to agree. he accepted who he was and went with it. i think the clear sign is that he decided to never have the pain suppressors on anymore which is why you could go into Ripper mode after that moment. he will always be a killer and will fight for what he believes in.

And at the end, he repeats some of Armstrongs last words, indicating that he atleast is starting to resent the fact that people are fighting for things they don't believe in and lying about what they really are. I haven't played it, but it's supposedly mirrors what Gene told Big Boss in Portable Ops. If they keep going with this in the sequel, we may very well be be playing a villain protagonist in MGR2.

Sort of reminds me of the end of X-men First Class, with the confrontation between Magneto and Kevin Bacon.

I wonder if the game's story would've been better served by introducing Armstrong earlier and more prominently, and showing us all the Desperado Captains in the prologue, as opposed to just Sundowner and Sam. I understand that it's important for their powers to be mysterious, but maybe just have Mistral and Monsoon leave on the same chopper from the train before doing the same Sam fight.

This. It's exactly why I want a sequel not about Gray Fox, or 10-100 years in the future, but a direct sequel with Jack The Ripper going around in his badass suit (that he Hulks out of at the end of the first chapter) and octocamo sword briefcase blowing up PMCs by the dozen.

Now you're just being naaasty!!!

If he had his pain inhibitors off after Monsoon, wouldn't he be screaming his head off while getting pummeled by Armstrong?

The final boss will be bladewolf and you can only win by getting him to shake your hand.

Playing on hard right off. Here I am thinking I'm pretty capable. I'm jumping missiles, deflecting bullets, destroying tanks and helicopters, and arm wrestling metal gears...

!@#$%!! I DIED IN A FIST FIGHT WITH THE SENATOR!!!

Why do we shake? Is that all we live for?

Yeah? Well, don't fuck with this senator.

The human body can dull the amount of pain you feel after a while, Raiden was hurting but due to sheer amount his body just adapted

Yeah? Well, don't fuck with this senator.

Who's a man and a half? This senator's a man and a half. Nanomachine-packing man and a half, son. There's nothing wrong with you I can't fix, with my hands!

Also hating on Sunny... some of you... :/

She was cute until she did a forced kid laugh.

when you kill armstrong and he tells you, that you two are like kindered spirits, the look on raidens face is scary. i think that whatyou said is the exact thing they're going for the story, plus he is a criminal now, he killed lots of cops and a us senator.

Also hating on Sunny... some of you... :/

Excuse me. Did you play MGS4. Because I did.

Brain cancer. That's what the character is. Stupid, dumb, shitty voice acting of a woman badly feigning a child's voice and mannerisms.

Thank the heavens she was only around for 5 minutes in Rising.

I just feel bad for Rose. She went through his bad drinking before, and now that he is branded a criminal, they will probably constantly have to be moving around.

The sequel hinted at the end with Raiden going around and shutting down PMCs better fucking happen.

They should make it like Mega Man: 8 PMCs to select from at the start, each ends with a super-powerful cyborg master with their own gimmick and when beaten give up their weapon to Raiden, callable RushWolf for maneuverability/getting places Raiden can't, each boss weapon effective against one other cyborg master, last PMC is World Marshal and the end boss is Solidus.

Oh yeah and the first letter of each PMC spells
PATRIOTS
.

I kinda hope they go the prequel route eventually; I just really want to know how Raiden ended up a cyborg. Though I wonder if they reused plot points with the original version and it was going to be like the intro of the game anyhow, losing a limb and eye and bleeding out in a duel he was outmatched in.

I'm surprised there wasn't even a brief chat with Rose/John or a shot of Raiden returning to them. Only the slightest mention that they are in New Zealand. Maybe they get in danger in Rising 2 and Raiden has to rescue them, dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn. Everyone knows who the fuck Raiden is now. He's gotta be in big danger now.

Too many posts for me to read, but I was telling cosmicblizzard the other day when I beat the game that the final boss fight totally reminded me of One Piece. Probably had to do with how I just watched One Piece Film Z the day before I completed it, but it would be an incredible coincidence if it was completely unintentional on their part.

All the strongest characters in One Piece these days have one form of Haki or another, which generally manifests in combat as a means of hardening parts of the body to block physical attacks or focusing it on arms and legs to create greater impact in blows. That is visually shown by the arms turning black just before they hit their opponents, or half their body turning black to absorb the damage from a blow.

The entire Armstrong fight was totally a melee battle in the newer arcs of One Piece. It can't be a coincidence! It's the most popular manga in Japan!

I thought of Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist, who did the same thing whenever he fought (especially came to mind when Armstrong went for an armored headbutt). That said, I don't know as much about One Piece beyond its popularity, so it having something like that too is new to me.

The visual element which stuck out to me is that instead of transforming himself completely to fight like Greed often does, the nanomachines (lol) retract almost immediately after each attack.

Pretty sure Raiden would kill that kid (again) if he saw him try to crack on Sunny.

I think even John would think twice before trying it and that's his biological son. XD

Yeah, but Haki and the Nanomachines stuff is probably based an the techniques used by the shaolin. Qigong to be precisely.

Well, the senator can also transform parts of his body at will, like when he was lifting the pieces of Excelsus.

Well no, there wasn’t supposed to be one. That honestly would have been the most trite, dull place they could have taken it. Especially considering this is something deep seated that he’s been suppressing for decades.

Not really. While he never goes full Ripper after Monsoon, it’s still very much there. You can see it right before the confrontation with Sam and during the little “this isn’t my sword monologue” especially.

And, considering the cliffhanger-ish ending, I’m sure they plan on doing more with it later.

Was the line "Nanomachines, son" self-conscious, you think ? It was so fucking great.
Has to be. I'll accept no other interpretation.

So Kojima Productions said the original version of this game's plot was going to feature Volgin.

WHAT. I've never heard of this.

I still remember a Quinton Flynn tweet where he's happy about working with John Cygan and Cristina Pucelli again last year. Sunny is obviously in the game, but I don't think there's even a single Solidus sound-byte in the whole game. I wonder if he was cut...

Yeah, I was waiting for Solidus to show up in a flashback. I was really bummed out. I guess Flynn was talking about the promos for the game.

Also, while everybody's talking about the game's ending, have some of you what the first third of the game was about ? How was the African Prime Minister any relevant to the plot at all ? Or how about the Mistral chapter in Europe with the guy blowing himself up along with the factory ? How were these things important in regards to Armstrong's master plan ? I can't figure it out.

I feel the same way. The Russian guy blew himself up for no reason and the Prime Minister died for no reason other than get Raiden's attention.

I think Desperado was just trying to instigate wars? Armstrong said he needed wars to get votes.

As far as I know, 8-4 had a hand writing the script. Meaning... yes, they knew what they were doing with that nanomachines line.

They mention Solidus a few times in optional codec calls. A lot of the references to those games are in the codec calls, cause I assume the old fans would be the ones checking those the most.

They killed N'Mani to instigate a wars, and he was trying to bring peace. I guess they wanted wars all over, with the new war on terror being the biggest cash cow. Er, what Mistral chapter in Europe? That was still in Africa. They said in the codec calls that he most likely blew himself up out of desperation because he was cornered, not as part of the plan. I think it was Kevin or Raiden who equated it to harakiri like samurais did. As far as I know, they were just in Africa to make sure that the government takeover was going as planned. They probably were just stationed in the oil refinery.

Either way, that shit was awesome when she got Demolition Man'd

Just finished it. Blown away. I expected nothing less from a Kojima Prod/Platinum baby though.

Boss fights were amazing too. Liked Mistral the best followed by Monsoon and Armstrong. Sam was easiest, and Sundowner sorta was middle of road though more fun than most games.

Give us a sequel!

The refinery was in Russia/Georgia IIRC.

For the Africa thing, I think Sam may have had a hand in it (he may have been intentionally trying to get Raiden's attention). Sundowner's post battle dialogue and Sam's final recording implied he had some sort of plan, and Armstrong said he was always a pain in the ass.

As crazy as the game was, it was a relief to see actual Urdu written on the air base gate at the end and not something in Arabic, as is the case with most western developed games -_-

Hey all, just beat the game.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I think I may have a crazy theory about Armstrong.

In one of the Codec calls, Raiden asks Wolf if he's heard of "Gubayama". It's a callback to MGS2, when Raiden is dealing with the Patriot A.I. GW in the Arsenal Gear. The full quote from GW is "That reminds me, I saw Gubayama the other day in Shibomnigee. He said to give you his best." Wolf says he's never heard of him, but postulates that it might be the name of a sumo wrestler.

Now, when Armstrong steps out of the Metal Gear Excelsius doesn't he make a sumo ish pose?

What I'm getting at is that Armstrong IS this "Gubayama" person that Raiden heard GW talking about.

Who else but the Patriots could have given the Nanomachines (son!) to Armstrong?

Sorry if this theory has been brought up before.

Ive been thinking about this theory. Like someone said earlier yama means mountain correct?

Here are some lyrics from Sam's theme: "Because the mountains don't give back what they take"

and

"I must climb this mountain range"

Sundowner's: "Arid winds blow across the mountains, giving flight to the birds of prey"

Winds of Destruction on on Mt Gubayama?
