Metal Gear Rising spoiler thread: God Bless America!

MGR:2

Set 15 years in the future.

Raiden is in his 50s and teaching his son (the playable character) the way of the blade.

John is 24 taking up his fathers mantle of defending the people
Sunny is 25 serves as a love interest for john and his tech support
George is a kev replacement.
Otacon is the old grizzled team leader

No no no...

Set 10 years in the future.

You play as Raiden in the prologue when he goes missing in action on a dangerous mission.

Sunny is 20 and hears about Raiden going MIA and is like damn well I better fix that shit.
She dons a new exoskeleton suit like her mother which she designed.
Kamiya directs.
Flashback chapters tell the story of when Raiden first rescued Sunny.

Neogaf collaborates to write the most boring video game sequel ever.

Ideally we'd get an MGS5 that develops a new cast of characters and a Rising sequel that ties into that.

But who am I kidding. We're gonna get the Boss and Grey Fox games.

All I know is that if they are crazy enough at some point I want a game set 100 or so years in the future where you play as a Raiden who has lost everything and only lives to kill the fight.

Does he live in a world where robots have taken over from humanity and all he can do is RIP AND TEAR

I don't want them to just make Sunny into an eventual love interest to a main character. She seems like a perfect candidate for the series' first female lead character given her background.

I loved the bosses and would love to play as them in VR missions or what not, but when I see Monsoon, I can't help but think...

Multiplayer was all "King of the hill on the piano stage at the top of the stairs."

But yeah, played and enjoyed The Bouncer, even if it was not the game initially advertised.

Select Kou run to top of stairs and profit you win, nobody is going to remove you

I'd but this a million times over, would be so fucking badass especially with the flash back missions.

Hey all, just beat the game.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I think I may have a crazy theory about Armstrong.

In one of the Codec calls, Raiden asks Wolf if he's heard of "Gubayama". It's a callback to MGS2, when Raiden is dealing with the Patriot A.I. GW in the Arsenal Gear. The full quote from GW is "That reminds me, I saw Gubayama the other day in Shibomnigee. He said to give you his best." Wolf says he's never heard of him, but postulates that it might be the name of a sumo wrestler.

Now, when Armstrong steps out of the Metal Gear Excelsius doesn't he make a sumo ish pose?

What I'm getting at is that Armstrong IS this "Gubayama" person that Raiden heard GW talking about.

Who else but the Patriots could have given the Nanomachines (son!) to Armstrong?

Sorry if this theory has been brought up before.

I've never heard of this but it sounds pretty solid!

I finished the game almost 24 hours ago.

I still think that nothing could prepare me for Armstrong, like, at all. His cutscenes, the fights, nothing.

Does anything in this game have to do with prior MGS games stories or Snake? Are they specifically referred to at any point?

I have played MGS2 to hell and back, and I don't remember this codec conversation ever happening. Can you say which stage of the final battles this codec call comes from, or was it something that wasn't translated directly in the English version?

This game does deal with the fall out of the events of MGS4. Snake is referenced a couple of times but it is totally a stand alone adventure.

Really? I thought I made a lot of calls but only remember Otacon being referenced, and obviously Sunny. I didn't think Snake or any other mainline characters were mentioned.

It's from when Campbell AI is glitching out

absolutely not. raiden's entire purpose is to make sure there aren't any more 'jack the rippers.' the last thing he'd want is to turn his son into a killing machine. besides, he's a freaking cyborg, he will probably live for hundreds of years.

i'm down for sunny having a bigger role in the sequel though :P

I know that, but only certain calls can be accessed depending on when you call him. For instance, the call where GW recites the intro to the radio play Ideaspy 2.5 is only available when you storm the innards of Arsenal Gear alongside Snake.

Thank you for reminding me to do this:

Oh snap. Good looking out bro. I would have totally bought a shiny piece of plastic from Play-Asia. I never even considered looking for this on online stores.

I had fun with this game, but felt it was a little watered down. I thought Sam was completely wasted by just having a 5 minute duel with Raiden in a desert. They should have at least fought on the faces of the presidents on Mt. Rushmore or some shit. I look forward to the DLC.

Actually, it doesn't seem to help significantly, at least according to Doc.

Raiden talks to Kev about Snake in Chapter 1. Near the beginning of the level.

I have to admit the fact that they killed kids and took their organs was pretty dark stuff. The room with the brains was disturbing.

It's the googly eyes.

Yeah, that was pretty comical. I expected a room full of brains. Not brains and eyeballs that looked off.

Though, I have to commend Konami/Kojima for going with Child Abuse/street children stories in their games. Silent Hill 4: The Room was another game that dealed with neglected/abandoned/abused children. Something most games/publishers won't really touch on.

to be fair i'm still in the early stages of my 'listen to every codec conversation ever' run. it's going a little slowly :P

No accent whatsoever. He's just a kid. Lol. I'll take that over what they tried to do in the English version though, considering what I'm hearing.

heh, i was actually kind of disappointed how he sounded like a completely normal japanese kid. i appreciate what they were going for with his character in the english version, i just think his va was miscast - he sounds way too old.

on a side note, while they were redoing the fmv with white blood, they should have resynced the mouth movement for the jp dialogue as well. i get that there are economic factors, but it's so damn distracting!

really? i wonder why they gave him that accent? that was the only thing they messed up on. i didn't find it charming or funny. and yea, VO sounded way too OLD.

They aren't dead, they're just stuck in virtual rooms with no way to access the outside world and with minimal human interaction.

No more Sunny.

God damn you people. You are encouraging the use of this character.

no more George.

Most every character in the game is...just brains as well

even raiden.

they're kids and they were murdered for their brains. which is why i found it disturbing. i thought it made the story interesting but it was disturbing. if you guys didn't think it was dark then you guys are weird.

It is dark, but they aren't dead. They're still alive and that's why it's so morbid.

I gotta say, I didn't really like Raiden's character arc in this game.

It didn't feel like he got a big redemptive moment where he realized he didn't have to be Jack the Ripper. It ultimately worked out that way, but it just sort of came and went.
