Yes but PS4 at least is focused around gamers with tech, features and 3rd party support.
And those first two totally worked for the Vita.

And an online community as well.
If 3DS is struggling, all the other consoles will do. I can't see PS4 or Xbox selling 30M consoles in the first two years. So many people should rethink what they mean by "struggling".
Almost all systems struggle out of the gate. The success of the Wii has seemed to create a false reality among many people here. If you're an early adopter, you ride it out like you've always had to do with new hardware.
The big difference between the DS and the 3DS in publisher support is that a lot of the junkware has been moved into the mobile space. A lot of the "bite sized games" have moved into the mobile space. But, if you want fantastic traditional handheld games the 3DS has that in spades.
If you don't see any innovation with the Wii U there is nothing more to say. There is more innovation in the Wii U than the PS4. What we are going to get from the PS4 is even better looking and even more cinematic "interactive experiences" and even better looking and even more cinematic games that we have had this generation.
You cannot like the Wii U and that's perfectly fine. No one will argue with that opinion. But, saying the Wii U isn't innovative is silly. It is innovative. Innovation doesn't equal success.
Yeah, if Nintendo is aiming for 150M, selling 130M means 3DS is bombing.
Lol, video game industry is dead with that kind of thinking.
What was DS numbers at 2 years...anyone know?
Didn't have abysmal marketing, it brought in an entirely new consumer, casuals ate it up, Oprah, etc
Explain the Wii please.
And those first two totally worked for the Vita.
The 3DS isn't at about 30 Million units, sales are continually declining in most territories.
Then you have their core gamer issue. They've failed to really grab their attention with the titles current available. Stuff coming up like the WW Remake, 3D Mario, Mario Kart, SSB and X will certainly grab their attention, but Sony and MS will likely have their consoles on the market by that time. And that of course opens up another problem for Nintendo.
I'm pretty confident at least the Durango will explode out of the gate. Microsoft would not let it happen, and they have the wherewithal to make sure it doesn't. Not worried.
The 3PPs can't allow them to struggle either. If any of the machines bomb and costs stay as they are, they're all done. Unlike with PS Morte and PiiU, they have made massive investments into those platforms.
Dragon Quest VIINot even close.
It is nearly 30M. In 2 years. Are you guys expecting it to sell 150M ?
How much do you need it to sell to consider "not struggling" ? 50M in 2 years ? No console ever did so.
And those first two totally worked for the Vita.
You're arguing against a straw man. Most "core gamers" seem to want a solid gaming system, not pointless innovation that doesn't improve anyone's experience.
"Innovation" doesn't equal "worthwhile", or "meaningful".
Sales are declining over their previous months and years, when it's at the point in its life where it should at least be stable if not growing. That's why it's struggling. It's doing great in Japan but declining everywhere else.
Heh, and I got a 6 month ban for referring to my xbox as xbawk on the day it rrod'ed...PiiU
Vita doesn't have 3rd party support and, whether we like it or not, dedicated handhelds are dead in the west. And those first two totally worked for the Vita.

It bothers me that vita doesn't sell better.
The hardware is great, the value is good (though the games are way too expensive so I guess that's one reason to fail).
I haven't bought one yet either tbh... I'm waiting for the memory cards to drop to an acceptable price.
The few times I've held one and played on one it really impressed me.
3ds after price cut deserves to sell okay, before the price cut it really deserved to bomb.
It's still too expensive imo since it's basically the ds2, a very low end system in every way should be cheap.
wii U deserves to bomb at this price, it's at least 150 euros too expensive, the games are too expensive, they went with hardware that still can't feed a 1080p tv current gen graphics at acceptable framerate, the OS is awful slow.
Lots of things wrong with it, though I do really like the idea of remote play with the wii u gamepad.
It's a waste of great potential with the hardware and price it's tied to though...
For once nintendo has a gimmick I'm interested in and then they botch it up![]()
See Windows 8 and Windows Phone. MS has not been on a roll lately
As to the question, they all deserved to bomb for what they put out. Nintendo for forgetting they released the Wii U, overpricing the 3DS, and Sony just generally acting like they own the handheld market with those memory card prices.

How many times will you say the same damn thing? You say that in every 3DS sales thread. The 3DS is under preforming to meet Nintendo´s expectations in every single quarter since its inception both in hardware and software. Companies and investors have expectations and if sales don´t meet their expectations it means the 3DS is failing and their stock price will suffer. Not only that since the 3DS is not selling to Nintendo´s expectations, Nintendo will have less money to make games since software and hardware sales are not selling as much as they like.

Windows 8 is a tough nut to crack (I think it just sucks as a product), but I feel like in a closed ecosystem where Microsoft has the support of everyone that matters, they shouldn't really be facing the same issues they are with their phones.

Takeaway: GAF analysts are often wrong when they assume people will see the power/features of the machine an instantly want it.
Not comparable.
Are you able to read to the posts that I was replying to? What the people were actually saying? Are you able to do that? It isn't difficult. I replied to a post that said the Wii U wasn't innovative. Try to stay on target here with what I'm saying.
I know that striking out against Nintendo is really important for that movement, dude. I know man, Nintendo is holding the gaming movement down! If we rise up and make them go third party than the movement will ascend to its rightful place in the valley. I'm down, man.
The goal posts move when the simple answer is: I don't like the Wii U. I like the PS4/Xbox 3. That's all you have to say. No one cares why you like something or why you don't like something. No one can say your personal tastes are wrong and/or right. But, we can say that the Wii U is innovative. I was replying to that and now you're trying to build my simple reply into your movement. I am not a movement gamer. I don't give a shit about games as an artistic or intellectual movement, or whatever you need them to be so you don't feel bad playing with toys. I'm perfectly happy being a grown man playing with toys. But, don't try to conflate what I said in a very specific reply to your movement.
Considering more of my random friends know that the PS4 exists rather than the Wii U, lol, I don't think it'll do as badly as Wii U did out of the gate.
I'm curious, are the PS3/Vita sales meeting expectations?
I remember when GAF was convinced the Vita was going to wipe the floor with the 3DS. I mean look at it!
Come on now. Without games first and foremost you will not succeed. Vita doesn't have the support.
Considering that more of my random friends know that the Wii U exists rather than the Wii U, lol, I don't think it'll do as badly as the PS4 will out of the gate.
What you said has no meaning. All we know is that the 3DS isn't doing as well as Nintendo expected and the Wii U is a barely breathing body on a hospital gurney struggling to stay alive.

What kind of response is this? You're getting very emotionally invested. Nintendo is a big multi-national company, it doesn't care about you.
You replied to my post, I never claimed the Wii U not to be innovative - but I'm also saying that there isn't any inherent value in innovation that doesn't generate any meaningful return for the gamer.
Most people are interested in great experiences, not gizmo's even the manufacturer doesn't know how to utilize (New Super Mario Bros. U and its lack of second screen interaction).
Innovation as an end in itself is pointless and doesn't help anyone. I don't see much "innovation" in the Wii U anyway, seems more like a novelty that hasn't captured the imagination of the public.
