Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

To everyone getting grips. Be very careful, the Hori grip ended scratching my Vita and now the paint has started to peel off. Ugh, I'm switching to my naked white Vita, can't stand that uneven feeling on the back.

ToTPR: Buy Dokuro.

About 2 hours on the Zero no Kiseki trial version and I am totally hooked. What an incredible game. Is Trails in the Sky as good as Zero no Kiseki?

So I was going to download Journey tomorrow before the shop updated and then Dokuro after it did. Then I got another psn card for my birthday and I can now afford instead NLKS or DJ max technika tune both of which I've been wanting for a while. Which one do you guys recommend?

Also my poor 16 GB card is running out of space * sobs*
I'd go for sale items first. Always.

Problem is... Sony have no one to work on a new "proper" Ape Escape, the original team behind the original games AE1/2/3/MM gone and Shift (Academy and Ape Quest) is now working on God Eater and Namco will not let them go anytime soon.

Lol is this true? I never knew the whole Ape Escape team left SCEJ. All that talent gone while, letting Team ICO take 6 years on a product that needed SSM help to get the ball rolling. SCEJ is more worthless than ever before.

I know someone I follow on Twitter, related to the Ape Escape games left SCE Japan Studio a while ago. I can't remember his position in the company though.

Puppeteer and Rain better deliver, or else Kaz should just burn that whole sad operation to the ground.

Give GT to someone who will do something with it. Then rebuild Studio Liverpool and give them enough money to do more than just rehash 2005's Wipeout Pure over and over with a new coat of paint. Lord knows they deserve a chance more than Polyphony and Team ICO.

WOW! Could this be the best PSN sale yet!?

What I'm picking up tomorrow (all prices are PS+ because if you don't have it yet, wtf bro)

The Cave PS3 [FREE] (Holy shit!!)
Tekken 6 PSP [FREE] (Again, holy shit!!)
Dokuro [$6.99]
Dynasty Warriors Next [$17.14]
Pure Chess [$3.84] (Regretted not getting this over the holidays sales, hurray!)
Sine Mora [$4.89] (Bought this for 2 bucks on Steam over the holidays but eh, I'll double dip to have something else to play on my Vita!)

And one more...but I'm undecided. What would you go with, Neogaf?

Street Fighter X Tekken
Or
Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3

so if sony pushed out a firmware update that made it so swapping memory cards didn't require any reorganizing, it just worked like you would think it would work where it remembers what was on it last time... so it would be easy to use two 32gb cards...

and sony announced a price drop of the 32gb cards down to 75 and a new 64gb card for $200, would you use two 32gb cards or a single 64gb card? (if you needed the room obviously)

Street Fighter X Tekken
Or
Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3

blazblue because I don't like capcom fighters....
but of those two ultimate as it's the only one of those two that you can play as Phoenix Wright in :P

Get UMVC3 because I want the online to get better when I buy it

Despite some of your complaints, I've found myself agreeing with Toto more often than not recently...

That was my problem with it too.

Mine too, until I tried the better control method. I hope you guys changed it and tried to get used to the other one. One of the control methods included is so nonsensical that I find it crazy that its included at all. Really curious actually, guys failing at Motorstorm RC, was that your issue? Did you give both control schemes a decent amount of time?

Dont really like fighting games so this month is backlog killing time

:lol DOA5 is the most casual fighting game ever. YYB YYB BBB 6BB4Y.

Yes, and sticks were better but still doesn't fix the fact that you can spin out with the higher-class cars REALLY easy on dirt tracks and in general.

Well yeah, they were obviously meant to do that and you need to have the most amount of control over them. Supercars especially are basically the "extreme" difficulty of the game instead of just giving you more difficult tracks. I really liked that approach.

I've tried almost every combination of the controls. I just couldn't get into it.

Its really weird that some people had this issue, I found the controls to be super precise and very snappy. Maybe your issue was getting used to "steering" from the top? I had to wrap my head around that for the first hour or so (That steering left is not MY left, but the cars left, and how the cars handle and behave in these turns).

People's comfort level probably came down to how many old school games they played under that control scheme.

I think the following all had similar? Super Off Road, Micro Machines, Rock N Roll Racing?

The controls were perfect - I suspect most people just didn't give it much time before writing it off. There would be no way to get great times if they weren't completely precise.

Pretty much. RocknRoll Racing was shiiiiit amazing. Micro Machines fun too of course.

Yeah, thats how I see it too. There is not much you could do to actually improve the controls (although I remapped acceleration to X instead of R).

Yes, but even if I control my speed my car spins out right at the tail-end when I'm starting to give it the beans to get through the corner.

"Slow in-fast out" doesn't work here.

Correct, it doesnt work the same way as the other cars. The supercars handle completely different and need you to relearn how a track is being played with them.
This is how the Supercars need to be played:

Since that guy was like ranked 2, thats not necessarily EXACTLY how most people will play it, but the correct execution of slight drifts and re-positioning in jumps is hugely important and makes for a crucial factor in these races.

I think you're confused. Motorstorm RC is the awesome RC car game.

Sound Shapes is the boring, sluggish, and conceptually flawed platformer

Let us all meet on the middle ground and say that both are great games that will appeal to a majority of people? :)

I will accept this begrudgingly :p

more importantly: buy Dokuro, which is leaps and bounds better than either of those!

Still havent done yet, but will do so once I get to my Vita. Still considering picking up Blazblue as well. People said it has an enjoyable SP campaign, right?
And how long is Knytt? Does it offer more than just pretty backgrounds?

for those who want to take advantage of the PS+ sale prices (but do not want to pay for a full subscription), it's a good time to look for those one month US PS+ codes

EDIT: though I don't understand why you would not want a PS+ subscription :P

I'm not entirely sure why anyone wouldn't want to join PS+, even if they only own a Vita (like myself). Purchased 4 years in January and I feel confident that I'm getting my money's worth.

Though I do wish I had known about the 3 month bonus. :(

well there are Smash Bros ,Third Party Non Stars and Naruto Ninja Storm.

Those aren't fighting games. Those are party games.

@Corrosive: The only reason SRK has a board for it is because of Seth/former Capcom employee's influence. SRK doesn't handle anything that isn't made by Capcom because "Anything not by capcom sucks lolz." It's why I can't take that board seriously.

Yeah, and that's why most people aren't going to give it the time of day. See? And I'm not just talking the super cars. I got up to the hotlap on that dirt track with the dirt-trucks and was slip-sliding around even at what should be a managable drift level. I'd keep slamming into walls no matter what speed I took it at. Meanwhile the AI would just go through the track like a hotknife through butter. How is that okay?

Its like play a shooter level where enemies get more HP? Its nothing different, its a higher difficulty level. Its not like it broke the game, it simply requires the player to step up their game to improve.

Why is it barely a fighter? Is there some test it failed or what?

Don't.. Just don't ask that question. I've seen people's heads roll over this issue.

Interesting that someone would write off a game because they can't be bothered investing time to get good at it, but ... eh. It's incredibly rewarding when you actually take the short amount of time and practise to get into it.

The asynchronous multi is fantastic and gives great incentive to get better. You can't fault the game's controls.

I'm drawn to games that reward you for improving your skills - I guess some aren't, which is fine.

I'm thinking about getting Motorstorm before the sale ends, but Idk. I always see mixed opinions on it.

Really irks me that people think there are mixed opinions on it. Some people dont like it but it rarely seems to be the games fault. The game is great and easily one of the best games on the store with tons of content. Considering the amount of people who love it, that price should really be an instant buying impulse.

Actually, the only people I've seen complaining so far, complained because they couldnt deal with the controls, which is just a matter of learning them. Put an hour of learning into each car and track type and you are good to go. Fantastic game if you like highscoring games.

Except when people hit that wall, they're going to give up because the controls aren't responding to let you do what the AI is doing. So...

Right, because I totally suck right, brah?

Yeah, no, the issue is the game suddenly hits a wall and the controls and cars aren't responsive for that wall. I 3-starred everything up to that point and then gave up after trying for 2-5 hours over the course of a week to get past those hot laps while changing controls.

Well how did I do it then? And the thousands of others who have a gold medal on even the last track? You can learn how to control it. You are either not able to properly play the game (some people just cant improve over a certain level in a game, like I am currently stuck at level 16 of Jelly no Puzzle) or did not bother enough. Its not the games fault.

Right, because I totally suck right, brah?

You either do that indeed, or you are just missing something. The controls are perfectly fine to deal with any level and car. You might be missing a technique or something that you didnt need to use on a lower level though.

I've got that grip, which part of the vita did it scratch? I can't even see anywhere that has exposed paint, unless the black matte bezel on the back is painted.

Also is the Vita PSN store down for anyone else? Whenever I try to connect to it I just get stuck on the "please wait..." message for minutes. Have a full wifi signal and just accessed it earlier today.
