Tomb Raider PC Performance Thread

SweetFX users...has anyone found a good screenshot capturing solution for this game? I generally just use FRAPS, but for some reason SweetFX and FRAPS don't want to get along. When I try to use the MSI Afterburner screenshot taking stuff, it makes the game crash.

less bokeh. basically things in the distance dont get blurred as much sorry these are from a cut scene, but I'm at a point where it really has little noticeable effect due to all the other effects onscreen.

hope this helps.

Awesome thanks for the comparison shots, Looks like Ultra DOF isn't worth the performance hit.

I like the part where someone posted Sethos' GIF and then tried to tell him what hardware the GIF was taken on.

He used Sethos' GIF, but I do have the same issue on CF 6970. Having been keeping track, but the issue exist on a single Titan card? Mine should be arriving this Friday.

That GIF is exactly what it looked like on my GTX 590, as well. (Dual-GPU card)

Screenshot function from the sweetfx itself works good.
I think its the print screen key.

Its one thing to partner with a GPU vendor, but its another thing entirely to only send the competing company the game to fine tune drivers the weekend before the game's release, especially when it was completed 3 and a half weeks ago.

This isn't rocket science.

I'll refer you back to the post you quoted...

Do you think AMD got made for Nvidia TWIMTBP final code any sooner the number of new releases that have driver issues the red side?

Let me point you too -

Resident Evil 5
AMD was unable to receive builds of this game early enough to get a chance to test and address any open issues. We will work with the developer to test and adjust any compatibility or performance issues that we encounter.

and it's not like Nvidia have ever locked out features using Vendor ID is it? Oh wait Batman Arkham Asylum

to quote the same post :- but everyone has to remember what goes around, comes around, and AMD might be performing better on this release and maybe a couple of others but it won't stop Nvidia doing the same back, the only people who get hurt are the customers.

So you see its not rocket science to read a post which obviously covered your original comment.

tbh with all the post processing and atmospheric effects in game, you'd not really notice running the game with it off apart from the cut scenes where it really is strongest, I ran about for 30 mins from an earlier save after posting those images and really struggled to pick out any noticeable difference in movement between off and ultra, the only place it's really noticeable is the cut scenes.

Sorry to drop this so bluntly, but I can get this game very cheap if I act fast, but I'm not sure my rig can run it properly. Can anyone give some advice?

I have an i5 3.30 ghz, 6gb RAM and a Geforce GT 530 with 2gb of RAM.

You can. I'm about the same but with a 460 GTX. Most everything on normal and high. Textures on ultra.

I would think so. You're over the "recommended" specs if I recall. For the record I'm playing it on an i5-3570K 3.4 GHZ, 8GB RAM, GeForce GTX660 Ti 2GB and it runs like a champ on "Ultra" (meaning everything pretty much maxed out except shampooFX) at 1080p.

I think it is well worth it. There are some amazing DOF shots in this game that look unreal with it cranked all the way up.

I'm guessing you're talking about
the radio tower / bridge to the palace?
I've run it ultra / normal and without, the cut scenes can look a bit jarring without, but saying it looks unreal on ultra compared to normal is a bit far reaching in my opinion and if there is a noticeable performance gain to be had it's really not that big a deal to sacrifice.

that should be enough bokeh for anyone and that's normal

Regardless, they need to patch it. I have terrible performance issues. (Tri)-crossfire isn't supported and I'm getting in the single digits on the benchmark on my 4.4GHz setup.
Is there a profile for TR? I've been having to manually apply Crossfire profiles lately.

It has for me in the past, but lately it's been broken.

I actually found a fix. Seems like there was an Windows update that borked it. I uninstalled that update and now it works fine.

Works now for me too.
How the fuck did they manage to fuck it up with a windows update?

Thanks guys, but I acted too slow and not it's out of stock.

Good to know though, I'm sure it will pop up in some kind of deal sooner or later.

Been playing with no problems at all since I posted about trying the Hitman profile. Not sure what it's doing, or if it does anything, but I haven't crashed since. Ultra/TressFX Off/FXAA, 1080P. High Precision Off. 60fps 98% of the time. Runs really well, and looks nice. 680/3570k

Yike! Time to turn tressfx off. Also for some strange reason every time I quite the game my screen goes black and just stays like that. My computer is still running but it shows nothing on the screen until I reboot. Other than that the game is awesome so far.

AMD 1100t @ 3.5Ghz
GTX 680 EVGA OC
8 GB DDR3
Win7 64

Getting what feels like 60fps during gameplay (haven't turned on fraps) with drops to 30 or below during close ups where it's get's in on the hair.

Have tessellation and high precision turned off. FXAA. In game v sync off, D3DOverrider triple buffering and v sync (it made a difference) Everything else maxed. 1920x1080.

Works great for me. TressFX doesn't seem to be bringing anything down for me with tess and Hi precision turned off. Will update when tessellation works on my card without fooling around with it.

EDIT: Latest WHQL driver. Whatever that one is.

Speaking of broken things with this game, achievementsystem is too.

Code:
Unfinished Business (Complete one challenge) - not triggered.
Inconceivable! (Complete all challenges) - triggered.

570 SLI. everything max. except Tress off, and FXAA.

Not a single problem using the new drivers. Locked 60 @ 1080p.

No crashes. The odd dip in FPS, but i think its loading issues.

80% usage across both cards.

Weird because I got the Unfinished Business achievement.

I have no idea. I found the solution online for something unrelated to Tomb Raider but sounded similar so I tried to uninstall that specific update and it worked. 0_o

Is Shanty town pretty much the roughest performance area? It is still pretty smooth on my system but definitely not 60 FPS anymore. Looking towards certain vista does drop my frames by quiet a bit.

It is for me. I drop from 60fps to upper 30s at 1080p. Even lowering my resolution to 720p didn't help.

I'll just drop my AA to FXAA. I'm playing this on my HDTV and honestly, it's a bit hard to make out the difference between FXAA and SSA from that distance.

I decided to jump in, $40 on GMG ($50 - 20% discount voucher) made me pull the trigger. And yeah, I'm pretty happy with how it runs on my 2011 mid/high-ish end laptop (dual core i5, GT 555M). With mostly High settings (at 720p, which is fine for me since I sit some distance from my TV), I'm getting very playable framerates.

Kind of wish I could just set a hard upper limit at 30fps though, as the game likes to jump around quite a bit framerate-wise, and that never feels very nice. And I can't get it locked at 60fps either, my laptop just doesn't quite have the juice to make that happen.

Also, I don't think I understand this game's V-sync setting. Even with it off I'm getting zero tearing, which seems weird to me.
