Sim City is now down, the maintenance message is amazing

Why you'd have to be some kind of fat, virginal, friendless, basement dwelling, entitled gamer to be upset about this. $60 well spent.

EA is a business. Businesses are about making money and doing business.

Buying an online only game at launch is just asking for a week of frustration. I don't know why developers/publisher always seem to underestimate demand after this happens to games over and over.

As for the game well assuming the servers are still going I might pick it up when it hits $10.

Hysterical - Kotaku article from June of last year about EA not repeating Diablo III's mistakes with SimCity
"EA is an on online company. We're definitely watching what's going on at Blizzard, and we're putting in backstops and checks to try to prevent those kind of things from happening."

Got home ate something, updated patch... Now it's on 0% waiting to connect to update server... FU EA! This is the last time I'm touching anything with online DRM.

I wanna punch someone from EA in the face.

Spent the whole day not managing to play. Most I got in consecutively was 55 minutes, and not in multiplay. I've managed to play like 3 hours total so far or something.

I thought everybody took warning for the clusterfuck Diablo III was some months ago. Guess not.

Also, remember that AODRM means the publisher can shut down the game you paid for whenever they want so nobody can play it ever again and EA themselves already did it with Rock Band iOS. Remember this is also the kind of company that shuts down servers for their online games a year and a half after release even after selling online passes that OH, SNAP! were supposed to be made to subsidize server costs. It's not like they're going to think twice before pressing the button when Sim City 2014 comes...

I feel sorry for anyone who bought this at launch.

I'm fine with game design decisions that differentiate it from previous iterations but I will not support EA or Maxis until they remove their draconian punishment of legitimate customers.

Online only DRM is no longer about piracy.

It now fills the role of additional revenue creation. Advertise DLC, shut the game down when you want people to upgrade, limit modders access, etc.

This whole situation is extremely disappointing. I am very interested in playing this game however I never intended to buy it at release and will not be buying it any time soon. I am hopeful by the time I would consider buying it that these issues would be ironed out but it is quite sad that many people the world over have bought this game at $60 and cannot even access it even when they meet the requirements for broadband internet. This always online DRM is extremely out of control.

The more I read about server problems, the more I hate the whole notion of this game being online and having EA servers connect different single player cities.

No one who likes Simcity gives a crap about that. In the end, their design goals have restricted overall city size and made simple, offline play basically impossible. Awful, awful, awful.

As soon as a developer/ publisher requires a connection to their server to play a game, they've added an expiry date to their game.

Could you start BF3 singleplayer offline on PC?

Nope.

I tried to play it coming home from school one time on the train, had my laptop and tried to fire it up just to screw around.

Expect to see it in Battlefield 4 later this year! :D

It would not surprise me at this point. I agree with the statements that people have shared that this is what we can look forward to with this next generation of gaming. I think the reasoning for companies to have these situations for the consumer is invalid. Unless they are fine with the fact that nobody can play their game.

Justin McElroy in that photo, SMH. I knew he was an idiot before but god, what a douche.

Y'know.. I really blame the pirates for this, but this is going too far. If I download a music album or a movie do I have to be online and connected to a server to listen to it or watch it. No.

I honestly don't know why they create this bad will.
I mean, look at Doom. How many really play it anymore?

But, you CAN!

And people upgrade anyway because they want different or more
.
Fuck you EA and any company who does this also.

In your SimCity directory there should buy a simcityrecovery.exe file. run it and you should be able to connect again.

Because most people will forget this "bad will" as soon as another EA game pops up that they're interested in, and EA knows it.
