Holy shit did you seriously just do that.
Wow.

Post some pictures I took a few days ago to illustrate how little shelf space is already dedicated to the Vita? Yes. I didn't rush out to take those pictures after reading this thread, if that's what you're implying.

I hadn't been to the gaming section in months, and I was honestly shocked by how little space was dedicated to the Vita (and, to a lesser degree, the 3DS). Taking a picture only takes a second. It wasn't something I put much thought into, but I suppose it could be considered odd.

Y'know this increase in sales could have also come about party due to the Playstation meeting. Vita being a PS4 streaming buddy might have helped.

Announcements do not spur sales.

I'm suddenly recalling how a few select people here thought the announcement of Home was going to bolster sales of the PS3.

but why would you bother doing it in the first place?

Because it clearly illustrates the point of how abysmal Vita's shelf space has become and with Vita's future lineup what incentive do retailers have to keep it around at all? It's only going to get worse when Disney Infinity takes up a huge mass of space.

Trolls will be trolls.

Mind explaining how that is in any way trolling whatsoever?

People complaining about Vita Complainers (tm) always saying the same over and over again need to realize that Vita Defenders (tm) also suffer from the same problem.

People saying "Vita is dead" with the intention of being jubilant/trolling is as bad as people claiming "Oh no here comes the Doom & Gloom brigade" every time a person analyzes Vita's sales as less than ideal.

My local EB has the Vita section in the middle of the store with shelf space and position unchanging in the past year. Obviously I don't believe that to be universal so I don't see why someone would trot out a photo of their local store to prove the opposite either.

I've seen it done plenty of times in threads like this, don't know why people find it so unusual this time around.
Well I hadn't in my GAF travels, which prompted the comment.

They're getting rid of Wii,DS,PSP,PS2 & GC games to make room for the expansion of the Vita,Wii U,etc.... sections.
This is happening at every retailer.

Just in case you don't know here's some of the big liquidation style sales & changes that have happened so far this year:

75% off all Gamecube games at gamestop.
All $1 or less used ps2 games were to be thrown in the trash at gamestop. If you can find them in store they will ring up at 2 cents each though...
All used psp & ps2 games are $1 at best buy.
Walmart has de-shelved many Wii,DS & PS2 games and put them in big bins that you have to search through now.
etc,etc,etc....

Some people here are telling the Vita shelf is getting disabandoned and posting pics about it. You are saying every retailer makes place for Vita. We should take your anecdotal evidence as fact, I suppose?

The Wii U has other problems

Oh, no doubt.

Doesn't mean that off-TV is the feature that's going to convince the masses to drop $200 on a Vita. The market hasn't shown mass enthusiasm for that functionality, and there are rivals that offer similar services for a much cheaper price.

EDIT: Wait, you're suggesting off-TV play is spurring sales now? Not a chance. No one who's interested in a Vita was pushed over the edge by functionality with a console with as much unknown as the PS4. Announcements only spur sales in rare cases like Mon Hun 4, not in far-off functionality.

Anecdotal, but all of this Wal-Mart's Vita shelf space was either hidden on the back wall or next to old DS accessories and bargain bin PS3 games.

Almost all of the games are sold out. Vita is living large, I'd say.

I haven't even said people are happy about it failing! How does saying 'the same people are always saying the same shit' amount to me believing in a conspiracy?

I've made it clear my thoughts on the Vita and how/why it was even released in the first place, as much as I enjoy it. And I wasn't really referring to this thread as much as others - but like I said you'd be blind to not see the general negativity about the Vita on here.

That's the market reality of the vita, the situation is extremely negative. So people being negative about it isn't really notable at all, that's what should be expected.

It's a pretty big value add though if you happen to have a PS4 or are planning on getting one.

Doesn't seem to be pushing the Wii U to any great extent, and that's half the cost a PS4 + Vita will end up being.

True, but one version you can take further than your bathroom.
Truth is that we will see how many games use it, but while similar one in theory has vast advantages IF it materializes

No one has a PS4 now.

Yes, it's value, but nothing near the inherent value that exclusive software brings, not even close. It's not value that'll push the ambivalent into purchasing a console.

Wasn't Sony mandating this on all PS4 games (PSV compatiblity?)

pictures of an Arkansas walmart Vita section in a Japanese price drop thread amidst proclamations of doom...great stuff. I hope the Vita sticks around for another 5 years just for these threads.

This.

I do feel like the Defenders are, in general, worse though as many seem to be trying to establish some rule where absolutely anything that can be construed as negative instantly equates to trolling.

A lot of people have been waiting a long time for the Vita to drop in price.
It has a good lineup already, and a rosy future.
Not everyone's going to buy it the first week after a price drop, but this is surely a good first step.
The next few weeks will see a steady flow of mid-tier releases also.

My only problem is the language used and the hyperbole. Saying the Vita is dead is not only adding nothing to the discussion it is factually incorrect.

I get that there is a lot of arm chair analysts on GAF, and some have very good opinions on things, but there are also many more that could drop the hyperbole and discuss things in a much healthier way.

I guess only time will tell in regards to your prediction ;)

Sure. There is hyperbole from both sides, though, right?

Maybe the fact there are more doomsayers than cheerleaders has created a sort of defensiveness in the cheerleaders and that is why there seems to be a double standard in terms of what is fair game and what is not.

Be really nice if they bring the price cut over here too. Soul Sacrifice and a price cut would make it a bit easier to pickup with the ps4 looming.

It is entertaining to watch people get embroiled while claiming they're totally not biased at all, and its the other side that is emotional. But its annoying to see every thread end up the same.

Serious question, are there any Sony first party games/franchises that would immediately boost Vita sales for weeks or would it take a heavy hitter from a 3rd party?

Don't feel bad. Shipwreck from the Cheapassgamer podcast has posted dozens of photos of retail Videogame displays to his Twitter account.

People did the same thing in the wiiu thread to show if it was/wasn't sold out. It's not odd especially for gaf.

That mostly depends on your perspective. Some people won't accept that Simpsons image as funny even though it is. Just like some people won't acknowledge that sales this week are pretty good even if next week they drop off a cliff. It's okay on both fronts and I think having a competitor to the 3DS is a good thing not a bad thing.

US retailers don't give a crap about the Vita for two reasons. It isn't selling and every piece of software is available from PSN without them taking any sort of cut.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I think there is a cornered rat situation going on (par for the course when you consider the contrast between sales performance and the relative quality of the product). The more desperate the situation the more desperate the measures to defend.

The generalization when people feel their system of choice being attacked is to jump and claim that people are extremely happy about the affair. People have become so emotionally invested in video game consoles it's almost scary to watch how some people will actually believe there is mass hatred conspiracy when people make fun of failing pieces of electronics all the time. Neither Vita, Wii U, kin, blackberries, etc. should be exempt. Being very pessimistic might not make for good discussion about something, but it's completely ludicrous to claim that pessimism stems from people wanting a device to fail.

Hmmm...well that certainly is a different view from the other day in the Wii U thread when you were stating all the doomed threads should stop.

Im sure you have some reasoning.

edit: not as harsh as I remembered just stuck out in my head how much you can be found in Vita sales thread defending the behavior then to see you in a Wii U thread with nary a word and these couple posts.

I do have to ask, but do you have any interest in the Wii U at all, or even Nintendo as a company?

Except simplifying the discussion to DOOMED is stupid and degrades the discussion. There are many shades of grey here.

Since you don't shop at brick and mortar stores, here's what's been going on.

Retailers sell the Vita & Wii U in their stores.
In order to make room for the Vita/Wii U they either re-arranged their gaming section and/or liquidated older items (example: Target wii section is now wii/wii u section because they downsized or as you like to say, "makes place" the amount of wii games they carry).
As time goes on they will continue to re-arrange/liquidate items to make room for future releases for those systems (example: 3ds section is starting to take over the DS section at every store i've been to).
Naturally of course, those sections will get bigger as new games are released.
