Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

Oh, so if I'm understanding you correctly, both the 3DS and Wii U version have these quests in Tanjia(?) Port? That is the area where you have to go for local multiplayer and online multiplayer?

Yup. Remember, these are the exact same games. There are no content differences at all.

Put simply, village = single player only. Port = single player and multiplayer

Whoops, I posted this in the demo thread instead of here.

MH3U Wii U load time comparison

Top left: disc
Top right: digital download to internal storage
Bottom left: external hard drive
Bottom right: external SSD

Ranked fastest to slowest: SSD, internal storage, hard drive, disc

Awesome info, thanks! I was kinda worried about the disc purchase, but in that video it's really not that bad.

Is it true there's a way to install from disc to internal storage? I feel like I heard that somewhere

The latest blog for MH3U's localization is online, check it out: http://www.capcom-unity.com/reno/bl...hunter-3-ultimate---localization-notes-part-3

Purple Ludroth is so anticlimactic. At least it's not Plum Ludroth, pfft.

So WiiU can accept Solid State external hard drives?

If it's USB it should work when formatted correctly, but for some reason Nintendo went with USB 2.0 so not much reason getting a fancy super fast drive. I can't think of a lot of games that benefit more from being installed to flash/SSD than Monster Hunter, so finding the absolute fastest option is a must for me. The eshop version will probably end up a permanent resident of my Wii U's internal flash.

Not that I know of, and I've looked. The 360 took years before it got that option, so maybe Nintendo will add it. Capcom let you install MHFU and MHP3 on PSP, but I haven't heard of such an option for this game.

But yeah compared to Tri and especially the PSP games when running from the UMD, the loadtimes for the disc version are quite acceptable. But if I'm gonna play this game for 500+ hours might as well save some wear on the drive.

Could I use an SD card to play the game? (wii u)

EDIT:
To the post above this, why do you think it is that important for this game to be installed rather than using disc? Is it purely personal preference, or is there anything about the game itself that would improve the experience if installed?

Should be able to. It would just be recognized as a storage device. It's not recommended do the speed of transferring data back and forth, running data from it, and the issue with read/write limits that SD cards have over time. It's a question of how long the SD card would hold up and be useable. As a stop gab measure until one gets a hard drive I would think it might not be a problem.

I don't think SD cards can be used for Wii U games or Wii U stuff in general. IIRC, then the SD card slot can be used for Wii mode only.

As for installing, you can have faster loading times if you play the game off of other storage mediums compare to that of using a disc. That pretty much is the basic thing you will benefit from.

Constant loading between areas. This was brutal in MHF2 with that painfully slow UMD drive. It's not so big a deal with the Wii U compared to the PSP and Wii, but the eshop version DOES load slightly faster which means you get to your destination faster.

Previewing armor sets requires a lot of loading from the disc as well, if you watch the video that was linked then you'll see how big a difference there is to the eshop version.

But really it's not game breaking or anything, the retail Wii U disc still loads faster than Tri and we lived with that.

Ok, understood, thanks. I’ll install to console for now.
It’s my first go at the series. I’m double dipping because I want portable for commuting then a fight or two online per week to check how Im doing.
It’s hard for me to determine whether I want disc or digital, I’m leaning towards buying digital, I just hope the manual in the final version is not as lacking and confusing as the demo’s is.

Yep, as they said, faster loading times would be nice, less wear on the disc drive is sort of appealing too, but not a huge concern of mine as my launch day Wii is still going strong.

Plus you know Nintendo has the NNID's but only can download on same console thing =/

If you put the SD card into the SD card slot, then no. However, if your SD card is fast enough, and you put it into a USB adapter stick thingy, then the Wii U just might format it and install the game to it

That's right I forgot about that. It would need to be in a USB SD card reader. Sorry. I've used my SD card reader several times today at work as well. Can't believe I forgot that part.

But I'll probably spend the launch day downloading the game and patches. :( Hoping for a midnight release!

midnight release would be great but i fear we will have to wait...or go retail to play it "early"! just asked the nintendo support (germany here) and got the reply that the game is planned to be released around noon/afternoon, bummer -.-

Hmmmm...contemplating buying it digitally on the Wii U because of this. Not sure about the 3DS though...I have both an XL and an OG...I might regret going digitally there.

I originally planned to download it.. especially because I hate the loud ever spinning Wii u disc drive, but I couldn't resist that amazon deal. I'll be mostly playing solo on the 3DS version anyway.

It's too bad the WiiU wont install the software from a disk. I already put a lot into a reservation and personally, I'd rather not wait to download the game.

What's the chance that you'd be able to play local multi, or transfer data from, a JP MH3G cart?

Highly doubtful.

I remember back in the PSP versions you could hack your saves to use them on the other version, but even there they weren't directly compatible.

As I said it's probably not impossible to put a feature in the game itself to install some data to the drive, as this was done on the PSP monster hunter games. But Capcom might not have bothered because it's not such a massive improvement that it was in MHFU. The PSP's UMD drive was slow, noisy and ate your batteries whereas on Wii U you just gain a very minor loadtime improvement.

I hope gaffers are going to be playing online on Wii U. I'll probably do initial quests on my own to get back into the swing of things, but I'll probably hop online sooner rather than later.

Oh i definitely will be. I hit a hard wall with Tri where I needed online mats but couldn't get a group together to get em... I was way LTTP on Tri, though. Gonna be proactive to get groups this time!

This works I'm currently using a 32 bit SD Card with a Reader. It works fine, and formatted with not problem. Works better than the USB loader on my Wii. Which sometimes cut off if I kept it idle.

I just bought the GF Sims 3 on Wii. I hope that can keep her busy while I bury myself in Monhun.

I spent so many hours in Tri, and that was almost only offline.

Quick question though. Dual Swords are new in Ultimate right? I don't remember them, and I'm loving them in the demo.

They've been around a long time, but they were absent in Tri along with several other weapons - none of the weapons in Ultimate are actually 'new'. DS needed to be reworked because they were broken, I'm not sure how that ended up but they seem great in the demo.

I'll be there for sure. I played a decent amount of Tri but there just wasn't enough to keep me going so I 'only' put a few hundred hours into it. I need lots of weapons and armor to experiment with, and this game seems to definitely have that.

Less than two weeks, and it's coming out while I'm on spring break. Can't wait to have a huge crowd of people to play with from GAF and /vg/!

This is great, I didn't even think of it lol.

I bought a 32GB SD card recently assuming (like an asshole it turns out) that the Wii U would let me use it for saves and downloads. lolno. The damn SD card slot is right in the front of the machine, it's practically begging you to use it. Needless to say, I was pissed when I found out it's for wii only.

SO now I have an extra 32GB card just laying around.

Have you downloaded games onto it? How stable would an SD card be for prolonged use? I'd hate to lose a multiple hundred hour save file.

Cool, so you can chat using the TV.

Of course, this was designed for JP fans who have bought the game on the 3DS months ago, not really useful here in the west.

Thanks God for MH4 native online, now let's get the localization going.

You don't think western players playing 3DS online will want to chat? Are you an expert on western culture? =)

So I noticed my GS cast a shadow on Lagombi's back and I thought of this:

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate |OT| Cast Shadows on Majestic Beasts, Then Kill Them

And both games have issues with text. I'm going to petition for an update that changes both games to use Courier.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate |OT| T y p o g r a p h y !

Welp, looks i need to correct my post! I was just scrolling through the E-Shop and suddenly noticed something on the big MH Demo Picture - it actually says the full game is gonna be available on 22.03...midnight! i guess that confirms it for europe, also that one should never trust customer services! Midnight release was new to me so this actually makes me very happy in my pants =)

I have a question for the long time players. Are ranged weapons more grinding intensive because of the coatings? although I didn't quite get good with them in the demo I think it would be great to get good at ranged weapons for MP.

Are the online groups still limited to 4 people in a city like Tri?
Yes

You basically need to restock your coating/ammo set after each battle. Alchemizing more of them takes a bit of resource hoarding, but you can also buy them directly from the shop. Gunner equipment tend to be cheaper than their blademaster equivalents to offset the costs, sort of.

Thinking of picking up a 3DS XL and this game when it comes out. Would you say the CPP is a necessity for this game? And does the standard CPP fit on a normal 3DS and XL?
