Jay-Z and 'Chrono Trigger' together at last in 'Chrono Jigga' Album

Source

Hip-hop has a history of sampling video games, and for his latest album producer 2 Mello has decided to combine two of the biggest from both worlds: rap superstar Jay-Z and the seminal Super Nintendo classic Chrono Trigger. Cleverly titled Chrono Jigga, the free remix album layers Jay-Z lyrics over classic chiptunes originally composed by the likes of Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobuo Uematsu. What's most surprising, though, is just how well it works. "I wanted to make this to explore the alternate reality of Jay-Z announcing himself as a gamer and going crazy on some Chrono Trigger beats!" 2 Mello explains on his Bandcamp page. You can check out the entire album at the source link below.

I heard this French Montana song on the radio the other day that samples the main theme from Kingdom Hearts 2 and I laughed so much. It was very earnest.

Rap producers really do love sampling 90s RPGs though, there's gotta be a dozen examples by now.

That song is so hilarious. It's "Sanctuary" for those interested.

Not a bad attempt. Personally i vastly prefer the 8-bit Black Album by CW2k3. The arrangements tend to flow significantly smoother then this one.

Ocarina of Rhyme prepared me for this day. It may go to shit, but I like it as of track #2 so far.

All rappers are really closet nerds.

The mashes are typically producers.. but being a rapper or a producer doesn't clash with a childhood that included playing video games, despite Biggie's being too poor to own a Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis. ;p

Anyhow.. I think this dude did well with beat matching but some of the songs are just such a contrast between the vibe of the instrumental and the content of the lyrics. And there's a pattern here of awkward starts. Once the verse hits on the drop it gets smoother.. but still has the weird juxtaposition.

Mildly surprised there's no shitstorm yet over the album name.

Listening to Encore in Time and I have to say, I kinda like... I'm a sucker for mashups though.

I only listened to Ignorant Scene and it wasn't that bad I guess, but that's probably due to the awesomeness of Wind Scene.
