Going out to eat alone. Anybody do this?

So I find myself with time to spare before work and I want a good meal. So im at a restaurant alone enjoying my food. I usually thought something odd about doing this but right now id rather eat something good and take my time.

Anybody else do this?

All the time. I don't understand the dependance on other people have to do things like go out to eat, or go to the movies.

In a hotel restaurant on my own right now making the most of business expenses. I used to care but not so much now.

Not often, but I've done it. Btw, seeing old people eat alone is basically the saddest thing ever. I try to convince myself that they're just out and about and needed some lunch, but deep down I believe that their spouse is dead and their children don't call them.

I have no qualms eating alone but unless its unavoidable, I will eat at the bar instead of sitting alone at a table.

Nothing wrong with doing it at a café, I did this alot when I lived in Paris. I'd bring a book with me and watch people walk by. I'd feel uncomfortable if I were alone at a restaurant, though.

Or they are hungry and don't need to call their children every time they leave the house.

EDIT: Are we also including fast food becuase you always see people eating alone at McD or Wendy's. Especially at lunch in a large city.

I did when I ate out. Mostly went to places that had a bar and ate there. Usually resulted in quick food, responsive service and sometimes even a good conversation with a neighbor.

I wouldn't sit at a table for four by myself though.

I do it on campus when I have like 15 minutes to inhale my food before class, but I assume that doesn't count. I don't think I've ever gone out with the specific intention of eating out alone, but I've stopped at fast food before and eaten there after a party or on a road trip or things like that.

I do this all the time.

you know it is kind of nice to hear the restaurants ambient sound while im sitting here eating. It's a nice way to unwind before going into work.

This isn't really a problem unless you're 13 or trying to forge relationships with other tribes.

Nope. Dining out is a social thing for me. If I really wanted some restaurant food, I'd just order it takeout and save some money on drinks and tip.

Nothing wrong with eating out alone, though. Just not something I see myself doing.

yeah. people make it out to be much more of an issue than it really is. some people might judge you, but who cares? you're probably not going to see them many places, and you probably don't want to interact with someone like that in the first place.

Actually, I just don't do it. I'd rather just take out then sit in a restaurant alone. Although, fast food joints are excluded from this. There it doesn't bother me for some reason. I guess it's because no one is waiting on me.

I used to go out for lunch by myself pretty much every day. I'm trying to cut down on it now, not because I don't enjoy it -- I like the ritual and I like getting out of the house -- but because it's too expensive!

If for some reason I'm going to eat by myself, I sit at the bar.

I used to be weirded out about going to movies and concerts alone, but I don't have a problem with it anymore.

Tell them there will be six people in your party and the others are running a few minutes late. Go ahead and order without them.

That makes it even sadder when the waiter/waitress comes up and asks you where your friends are, thinking they abandoned or forgot you.
