Going out to eat alone. Anybody do this?

Pretend to cry and they'll give you a discount.

I once went out with a group of friends, all of them couples, and when the waitress got to me and I told her "I'm paying for just me", she gave me a very sympathetic "awww". I didn't get a discount.

Ouch. As if being the third wheel isn't bad enough, you had to deal with that. All of my friends are dating and im friends with their dates. It always feels weird hanging out with them because of instances like yours. Or the fear of it anyway.

Yes, and with great frequency. Its nice to have someone else there, but it is by no means something I need.
I used to go out for lunch by myself pretty much every day. I'm trying to cut down on it now, not because I don't enjoy it -- I like the ritual and I like getting out of the house -- but because it's too expensive!
This right here.

To be fair, it can get awkward if you're like eating with a couple of friends or whatever, and no one talks for a long period of time.

Most of time, though, I'm just like fuck it. I need to eat, so I'll just go eat.

I prefer going to movies alone. I can go during the day when no one is there. I can sit where I want, which is in front of everyone since someone will always pull out their phone. I don't have to deal with someone whispering their comments about the movie either.

Not often, but I've done it. Btw, seeing old people eat alone is basically the saddest thing ever. I try to convince myself that they're just out and about and needed some lunch, but deep down I believe that their spouse is dead and their children don't call them.
T_T

I've only done it at places like Subway or Rubios. I'd feel too awkward eating at an actual restaurant by myself. Not that there's anything wrong with it, especially if you're away on business or something.

Do it all the time, and have for years. Sure having company is always nice, but not necessary. I've gone to the theater by myself too. First few times, it did feel a little bit weird, but pretty soon you stop giving a shit.

I would say being this way has made me pretty adventurous and and it forces you to meet people you otherwise wouldn't talk to if you were with a group of friends. I'm not afraid of traveling alone, with the benefit that you don't have to ask others opinions about places to eat or visit. It's awesome.

All the time, although there are certain places I'd avoid if I was alone like a popular date spot.

I don't think i've ever done it. I don't really like eating out, though. Especially by myself. Just sitting there, waiting for my food? No, i feel like i should be doing something. I get easily bored.

Hell yeah, sometimes, when I feel like it. => usually a dinner thing.

It's nice to be able to sit down sometimes and enjoy good food alone, in some peace and collect your thoughts.

I even watch some movies myself because I can't find people to go with me. Sometimes, I admit, it feels like a better experience (:

I do it quite often. I've grown to enjoy eating out alone, you can enjoy yourself a lot more when you don't have to deal with people.

Only if I'm out of town/hotel.

I don't mind going for a breakfast or fast food on my own though. Some restaurants do take-out too.

I sometimes go to restaurants alone. If no one's trying to talk to me, I really do enjoy the meal a lot more.

I've never been to the movie theater alone. I don't think I have a problem with going alone, I just usually decide to wait until one of my friends is open to go out and catch a flick with me. My friends are not obnoxious people, so I don't have to worry about them ruining the movie for me.

I own my own house and live alone so I eat by myself all the time. I can cook the same meals at my house for half the price. I go to restaurants for the experience, so if I choose my guests wisely, the experience is amplified even further.

really is it? Maybe I go alone cause I'm studying overseas at the moment, and have quite a few good friends here but they don't like the films that I like.

So I go watch them myself (:

I watched the Hobbit IMAX 3D on Christmas Eve alone. It was one of the most amazing experiences I've had in a theatre!!

When I'm home I'll find the company of my best friends or my gf.

But I dunno...depressing seems to be abit of a strong word....I'm actually quite happy watching movies alone I realise. *shrugs

Each his own I guess.

I eat alone, yeah
With nobody else
I eat alone, yeah
With nobody else
You know when I eat alone
I prefer to be by myself

Every morning just before breakfast
I don't want no coffee or tea
Just me and good buddy Samsung
(BTW it's an S3)
'Cause I eat alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I eat alone
I prefer to be by myself

he other night I laid sleeping
And I woke from a terrible dream
So I caught up my pal Sara Lee
And her partner Jimmy Dean
And we ate alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I eat alone
I prefer to be by myself

The other day I got invited to a party
But I stayed home, Oiled my pan
Not because I'm the Gaf-man
In the fridge was Honey Baked Ham
And I ate alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I eat alone
I prefer to be by myself

My whole family done give up on me
And it makes me feel oh so bad
The only one who hits the Dollar Menu with me
Is my dear Old Grand-Dad
And we eat alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I eat alone
I prefer to be by myself

I usually go to my favourite restaurant alone, it's a small place and has counter seating. It's my version of a little vacation away from everyone.

You know.... you should be able to do this... or I should be able to.

But I am too conscious of people watching me while eating, and for some reason, eating alone forces all the loser pricks of the world (you know who you are losers) to stare at you, and wonder why on Gods Green Earth is a human sitting consuming a meal by their self?

Must crush your worlds losers, to see someone have a fucking simple meal by themself for once.

EDIT: needs clarifying, I am not talking about quickie fast food or eating Subway alone. I'm talking about sitting down at a nice place after work...

EDIT II:
As an aside, this is the 2nd or third time I have read you telling people to search.

You made your point. It's annoying already.

I am pretty used to eating alone now. I would have never done it in the past but now I find myself having much more free time than my friends so I would go around eating at restaurants I see on T.V. or recommended by people here on gaf.
