NVIDIA to release GeForce Titan

"OUT OF STOCK." already

Yeah, they were only up for like an hour and 20 min before going out of stock. You just need to sign up for auto-notify on Newegg and EVGA's official site. I get emails from them every 4-5 days or so when new stock comes up. And every time I check, there is at least an hour before they sell out.

EDIT: I guess they are back in stock again!

Back in stock, go go go!

Nah, I've looked into this. The panels don't even display 120Hz, it's all a bit wishy washy. A lot of people have them blow up and die out pretty quick too.

One, I haven't heard this yet for Overlord monitors, and can't find anything online that confirms this point, and I've searched extensively. Link please, because hardly any of these monitors have been sold so far, and I have a feeling this is a case of people just regurgitating rumors they've heard on the Internet, which is dangerous, considering 120hz.com supposedly has a vendetta against them (talking shit about the Overlord models before the OC models were even out to sell their own units).

Two, 1 year US Warranty.

Anyways, I'll be getting my OC in the mail today, which I plan to run at 96Hz, so I'll be able to give first-hand impressions, and let you know if it dies!

This could very much be the case. I haven't talked with anyone that I could absolutely confirm owned one, just going off some random folks on OCN.

I am very excited to hear back, PM me with a link to your impressions if you don't mind!

I just picked up an EVGA Superclocked off of Tigerdirect. Go through Mr. Rebates to save another 6% ($61).

Now to save up for my 2nd card...

In case you guys are looking for a card, THIS LINK found one for me.

So, I redeemed my 3DMark upgrade from EVGA this morning, and was trying to do some benchmarks in the Fire Strike test, and I was getting abysmally low results. Turns out a Windows Update fucked with DirectX 11.1 pretty badly, and when trying to run that test with SLI enabled will net really low scores. If you have SLI and Windows 7, uninstall update KB2670838 if you want to run Fire Strike in 3DMark.

Now to save up for my 2nd card...

spending that much on video cards is edit:"not very efficient" given how fast technology advances. inevitably there will be new versions of direct x down the road at least, that leave you with essentially 2k of paperweights. At least if you want all the latest and greatest, which if you spent 2k on video cards you do.

Some guys surely spent loads on superclocked SLI 580's last time around too. Now how cool are those? For one thing they're probably already getting squeezed by the only 1.5GB RAM...for another they probably can heat a city block.

That said, at least with AMD saying no new cards this year or whatever (even though I think people are saying Q4?) it seems like the cycles are getting longer, so it might not be as bad as in the past.

And if you're rich and dont care, then none of that matters.

Edit: I'm sure the "you can sell your old cards and recoup" here too. But you're still going to lose hefty money I think, as those cards wont have the latest features.

Take my 580 example above, used 580's probably cant fetch much now, as you can get new 7870's or 660's for 200 that are just as fast with newer features sets and latest advancements less heat and power etc. I mean a 660 non TI probably uses like 1/2 power what a 580 does, is much more compact/tiny etc, while competing on speed. 580's used to cost $550.

Yeah. I also have an itch to get another one. I don't like not being able to run games at 60fps max settings @1440p, but I think I'll wait and see what the next round of cards will provide. At worst, I can pick up another one later on. By then, it could be cheaper.

I have a bit of dilemma and need your input if possible:
I can purchase a 1 month old GTX 690 for $600 cash. Should I pull the trigger?
I will playing at 1080P mostly but am also quite fond of downsampling. Help.

$600 is a great price for a 690. Do you need one? That's the real question.

Oh and specialguy, I'm getting a 2nd Titan anyways.:P

Yea that's the thing, I really don't need a 690 for my PC gaming needs at the moment but at that price I'm quite tempted to pull the trigger. Any crazy issues with these cards I should know about? If any 690 owners would shed some light from personal experience I'd be grateful.

Whats your current card?

AMD 6870 lol. Was gonna go for GTX 670/680 but man that 690 looks sexy as hell with that price. :/

If you were planning to get a 670/680, it's a no brainer to get the 690 for that price. The 2GB VRAM might be an issue once nextgen consoles come out.

I'll be interesting to see how fast a single Geforce Titan will be compared to my Tri-Crossfire 6950s (flashed to 6970s). Should be close. I'll really need a 2nd card to get the most out of it.

Buy it and resell it if you dont want the performance.

Agreed - I just sold a bare 690 (Alienware/Dell OEM) on eBay for $720 net...so there's no risk for you!

Yes, if you want to wait over 2 years to sell a card - the value goes down drastically. Shock! The FACT is - you can only lose 15-20% of your original investment if you sell within 6-8 months of purchase. This hobby is not a sinkhole. I've taken my original money investment from a couple years ago and kept it riding on top-end hardware...essentially paying small rental fees along the way.

Great article on Titan versus 7970 CFX and 680 SLI! Frame times FTW...

Yep yep. Went 690 -> 3x670s -> 690 and essentially made $400 in the process. :P

*edit*

Also, I get this with my benches as well. Far Cry 3 is such a pile of unoptimized shit.

Look at all of those outliers. WTF.

NVIDIA response to the fanspeed/voltage glitches some are seeing with their Titans:

We’ve found an error in our power reporting that under certain circumstances makes it look like there is extra power headroom available. The power readout could, for example, show 90% when in fact you are using 100% of the available power. It’s likely that your card is boosting clocks up until it hits the power limit but the reporting error is causing the power readout to show a number below 100%. Under these circumstances a dramatic increase in fan speed would cause some extra power draw and the GPU voltage and clocks could be dropping in order to stay within the maximum power limits of the card.

We’re working on a fix for the power reporting error and expect to have it available in a few weeks.

What are backplates for? What's the benefit?

Should everyone have a back plate or what?

Anyone running 2-way SLI or less should get them if they want. They're unnecessary but they certainly do look cool. :)

I found that with 3-way SLI or 4-way SLI ("sandwich" configuration) the backplates reduce the already minuscule space in between the cards...so it's not worth getting them. In fact, when I had 4-way EVGA FTW+ 4GB SLI I ended up removing the backplates that came with them and I gained back around 5 celcius in temps!

EDIT: I was able to OC my BenQ XL2420TX to 127hz. Weee. Heh.

I used EVGA's Pixel Clock OC utility...I couldn't find it on their site, so if you want to grab it, you can get it here: http://1pcent.com/?p=298.

Oh weird, I've got the same monitor.

So, it's really not worth the risk to overclock it by 7hz above 120 right lol?

There's no risk, really. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it will auto-reset. If it doesn't auto-reset, then boot into low-resolution mode and change it back. Your monitor may OC better - give it a shot!

I just tried it out and yeahhhh something must be wrong?

I set it to 128, it loaded up fine, but the mouse looked super jumpy and weird. I'll just stick with 120 I think

They also keep the card from sagging.

But it's almost entirely for aesthetics.

I really doubt it helps with sagging, at least on the EVGA GTX 690 back plate, it's too thin to fight the effects of gravity long term. Good thing the 690 and Titan PCBs are thick and solid enough on their own. And I've read people like Callsign Vega mention that the backplates might cause the chips on the back to get even hotter.

Love the look though! I might just get one for my top card, the fan clips are dangerously close to touching.

Yeah, it's not a big deal. I am pushing pretty high FPS so any extra refresh helps. If you're not comfortable with it - don't do it! :) I was able to get to 130 by going increments. Then I set it to 131 - it didn't work. So the tool auto-reset to 130 - that didn't work! So I had to reboot to low resolution mode to fix. That's why I backed down to 127 to be "safe" heh. Everyone's monitor will be different - just like video cards and CPUs.

EXTREEEEME BRIGHTNESS!

Just kiddin'. You can potentially get a higher refresh rate.

Yeah but what benefit is the higher refresh rate? Like what's the benefit of 127 Hz vs 120 Hz? Wouldn't that just cause more tearing unless you are able to play everything at a locked 127 FPS?

Essentially, yes. You want to maintain ~100-120 fps with low frame times for smoothness. I am running 3x Titans at 1080p so I'm happy to have as high of a refresh rate as I can get.

Nope.

With a higher refresh rate you get a more convincing illusion of motion. 120Hz monitors seem to eliminate the issue of tearing for me.

There's that scene in Fight Club where Edward Norton smashes that guys face into the ground. He says, "I felt like destroying something beautiful."

That right there, is that dude's face.
