Tomb Raider PC Performance Thread

About 680 (the weaker directcompute series)
Were they talking about the 680 here or the 7970?

Love your crysis 2 work btw :)

EDIT:
Think I got confused there. They say its with tressfx because Ultra sets hair to tressfx automatically, but the screenshots show ultra quality with normal for the hair setting. If Ultra uses tressfx, then what's the difference with the Ultimate setting (I don't have the game yet to know the differences between settings)?

Probably pulled shortly before launch. Have seen that a lot over the years (was a PC games journalist for 10+ years before I joined NVIDIA), but you rarely hear(d) about it because most tech features aren't detailed in advance.

Why did BF3 never release with Tesselation in the final build, even though it was confirmed at some point during development.

I started playing this game today. Left the first cave and started crashing non stop (GTX 670). Turning off tessellation seems to have mitigated the problem for now but really, how has this not been fixed yet?

Is there any way to lock fps. I would kind of just like to play it at 30 solid. With my current settings it seems to jump from high 50s to high 30s. It's not the worst thing in the world but it is noticeable. I have an AMD card btw.

I always use nvidiaInspector.

Edit: Sorry, missed the AMD part in your post. :(

We have just made public a new version of the PC version of Tomb Raider, build 1.0.722.3. This patch will be applied by Steam automatically when you next start the game. If your game does not update, please restart the Steam client.

In addition to various PC specific fixes this patch brings all the fixes available in the 1.02 console patch to the PC as well, but note that the majority of those was already included in the originally released PC game or version 718.4.

New fixes in 722.3:

- Addressed an issue in ”Shipwreck Beach” where the mast on the wooden ship was occasionally missing depending on the player’s path.
- Fixed a gating issue in “Research Bunker” where the elevator would get stuck in an unintended state.
- Fixes for multiplayer connectivity
o An issue related to security certificates that stopped many users from connection to Square Enix servers was resolved.
o Improved messages when you are unable to connect with Square Enix servers.
- Improvements to voice-chat for multiplayer
o New Push-To-Talk feature, by default mapped to F1.
o New voice-chat volume option.
o Improved overall quality of voice-chat.
- Fixes for crashes on startup in specific situations when no audio output is available.
- Fixes for various reported crashes during both single-player and multi-player.
- Movies are showing up again when using SSAA.
- Cost of TressFX reduced, especially in combination with SSAA.
- TressFX memory usage reduced for AMD Eyefinity and NVIDIA Surround setups.
- TressFX simulation and graphical quality improvements.
- New Ultra-quality shadow mode for contact hardening shadows. This is not enabled by default in any quality profile, but can be enabled from the advanced settings.

- Improvements to fullscreen/windowed switching and multiple display handling.
- Various UI improvements.

While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone, if you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on the old version we made a Beta available on Steam, Build718.4, that can be used to switch back to the previous version. Please note however that you can only play multiplayer with people that share your version.

We’ve been working closely with NVIDIA to address the issues experienced by some Tomb Raider players. In conjunction with this patch, NVIDIA will be releasing updated drivers that help to improve stability and performance of Tomb Raider on NVIDIA GeForce GPUs. We are continuing to work together to resolve any remaining outstanding issues. We recommend that GeForce users update to the latest GeForce 314.21 drivers (posting today) for the best experience in Tomb Raider.

We are planning further patches beyond this one to address various issues that have come out of consumer feedback since the release of the game.

They also made it so when you're aiming the bow and arrow, moving back and forth doesn't make the hair clip through the front of her face when going backwards. It still 'twitches', but it obeys the laws of gravity.

I see on the GeForce forums that a GeForce dev says they're testing the patch + driver together right now and will be releasing it "very soon". Can't wait to finally play this game without crashing. I don't think I've crashed this much from a game since STALKER 1... -shudders at the memory

I was wondering this too. Generally Nvidia is pretty timely. Lately though, they've been slacking.

Slacking? In what way

They got these drivers out ultra fast and they weren't even to blame in the first place.

Andy, send me a secret Titan Brotherhood special 'pre-download' link

Fantastic. Hopefully the driver is out a little later tonight and I'll be diving into Tomb Raider this weekend! Glad to see both Nixxes and Nvidia respond quickly to the issues.

I've been playing this game with a 7970 and I experience crashes on that card, too, so it may not be an Nvidia only issue. Don't know. All I know is that I get no crashes with the 7970 in other games, just Tomb Raider.

Edit: Oh, didn't realize a new patch is up for the game. Let's see if it fixes the crashes I've been getting with the 7970.

Surprise! :)

My OS HDD died about 30 mins after I got my Titans, earlier. Currently reinstalling.

I disabled SLI earlier because of Sleeping Dogs doesn't allow screenshots with SLI.

Few hours later here I had a driver crash when watching YT and rendering a video in Vegas.

Few minutes later I enable SLI

Black screen

Hard reset my machine

Boots in 800x600

Restart a again

Same

Set both GPUs as enabled, restarted

"Windows couldn't start the hardware because of an error"

:| :|

Uninstall drivers, restart, turn off PSU for 5 minutes

Currently reinstalling drivers ... Hoping it works.

Dafuq?

He's an elite driver-finding ninja like the Guru3D folks. It's real, it's safe, download away.

Andy, does the installer create a log somewhere you can check if the installation fails? It says my machine is now running .21 but it constantly says it failed to install at the end.

Now, looks like the VRAM is capped at 2.2GB. Before max settings @1440p, 4XSSAA = 3.5GB, 2XSSAA = 2.9GB and FXAA = 2.5GB. I wonder what are being reduced.

2560x1600
Ultimate settings ( Everything High / Ultra, TressFX, High Precision, PP, Tess etc. )
2xSSAA

Not sure where it's getting the 10fps minimum from, it doesn't dip whatsoever.

Oh and TressFX looks like shit. The shadowing alone makes me wanna vomit.

So, with the latest game patches and Nvidia drivers, here's my updated result;

Gone down a bit and TressFX still has the same flickering issue on mine.

To be honest I can't tell much difference in performance with the patch and the new drivers. Tressfx still runs like dogshit on my overclocked 570.
