Assassins Creed 3 PC performance thread

yes, you can.

call uplay.exe with the right command line and it will ask for the key and download everything from UbiSoft. I did it for AC3 and FC3.

check my post history.

ah i see, this is good news until they introduce an easier way. i think im gonna make a uplay ot with this info

Is this game heavily dependant on ram I just started playing it and performance is abysmal on my low end rig even on lowest settings on 720p
I have q6600 with ati 6790 and 2gb ddr2 800 ram
All previous assassin's creed ran fine.
Can't upgrade ram because of some problem in my motherboard.

that 6 yr old processor is the main issue as the game is highly cpu intensive

the new engine for the series means its much more demanding then the old games

Looks like ill have to wait till years end to play the game. Will grey s new pc then. thanks for the response

At the highest settings, it looks like I have to settle with 35-60 fps. I might actually do the unthinkable and lock at 30.

Damn it.

3570k 4.6 7970 Ghz 1200/1600

It's funny how PC gamers brag how their rigs will run circles around any PS360 game yet there are a few multiplatform ports that run like shit on even the fastest PCs. OK, AC3 is still running in 1080p at more than 30fps. It's just astounding how astoundingly unoptimized these ports are.

I've only seen the first hour of AC3 but I wasn't impressed by the graphics. I thought they looked worse compared to AC:Revelations. I have no idea why this engine change made the PC version so much worse.

dont really know what that means

fezan's PC does not fall into "the fastest PC" category, his processor is 6 years old. my rig would fall into that category and on maximum settings the game runs at a stable 60fps around 90% of the time now.

this is the first game in the series to use their next gen engine, the PC version also comes with some impressive features. but i agree its not a showcase port by any means, while technically impressive it still has a few issues.

that being said, it shits on both console versions from a great height, just like every single other PC release.

I actually didnt like the new engine at all i also think AC:R looks better and run infinitely better. But its not due to optimization my pc is really old evwn tough its much powerfull than ps360.
Btw its running fine on my laptop on lower settings at 1368*780 at 34-40fps
Laptop is i3 with 7670 with 4gb ram and it falls under low end category as all are mobile parts.
Even on lowest setring it looks better than ps3 version

I just wished the patches applied itself automatically without me having to click stuff, maybe its possible?

Reminds me of this:

It's just a little pathetic that Steam is more of a convenience when it comes to Ubi games than Ubi's own service. ;)

Is there any way to fix the random stuff popping up? Don't know the exact term, but I just noticed it in New York. I see random people disappear and reappearing. Then posts and random signs popping up.

Mine has been doing this too, I can't remember when it started, but trees and stuff will "fizzle" in to view. Performance is about the same with this patch, I can't use D3DOverrider to help smooth out gameplay anymore, it gives me an instant CTD if it is active.

Game still hammers one core way too hard and leaves the other ones unused. Still lackluster work from Ubi. If this game utilized quad cores it would run so fucking beautifully it would make our heads explode. :|

Ugh, that sounds frustrating. Really kills the immersion in the game. I'm running around and I notice it now a bit more in the woods, but it wasn't too common for it to be a nuisance. Now I'm in New York and I've got a bunch of stuff popping up.

Is this game badly optimized or can I do something to improve performance on a 3770K/7970 3GB/16GB rig? I don't have exact numbers right now but performance doesn't seem very good at all, and I don't want to reduce the environment detail as that makes object pop-in too obvious. I've turned down AA since the game is jagged to hell anyway. What system were people expected to have back in November to run this well? Dual GPUs?

I'm just trying out all the games that run like shit for me on my last rig and so far this is the first that disappointed me with its performance.

performance is shit across the board, fps will still dip occasionally no matter what rig you have. not much you can do apart from turning down the quality settings to alleviate some of it

This game is simply broken. Specially on multi GPU setups. GPU usage drops to 30% or so in most demanding scenes.

I can't believe neither Ubisoft or AMD have said a word about this, let alone fixing it.

Wow, what shitty performance this game has. 4GB GTX 770, i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz and it just chugs in Boston. There are moments of smoothness but the FPS will just plumet and I have to look at the ground just to get things going again.

Sorry to bump an old thread but damn, one of the worst optimized games I've played. Worse than Metro 2033 by a landslide.
