I don't like Andre very much, Before Sunset is a much better film of that style I think. The awful VO doesn't help either.

Yeah, in my mind I built it up as a film in that vein but I was mostly disconnected from the conversation most of the time, unlike the masterpiece that is the Before trilogy (seriously guys, Before Midnight is amazing).

I watched My Dinner with Andre last night and was expecting to love it, but sadly did not. I'd say I greatly appreciated about 30-45 minutes of the conversation, but that's less than half. Perhaps I need to rewatch it down the line.

I'm thinking about watch My Dinner with Andre. A few people have recommended it to me in the past.

Can you explain The Ice Storm to me? I mean, I liked it and all (although weird seeing Frodo and Spiderman so young,) but it felt like it was building up to something great, but then the
ice storm
happens, and it's like, "OK, everyone go home now!"

Its been awhile so most the plot is hazy, i put it on my queue. So by like Wednesday i'll be more refreshed. I recall minor things like during the sex party one the older dudes took that young girl to a bedroom and took her vcard and I believe 2 young teens were alone in some other house bout to fuck but didnt.

Just gave 'Safety Not Guaranteed' a watch since Colin Trevorrow, the director, was announced to be the director of Jurassic Park 4.. I actually never heard of this film before that announcement, it entirely slipped under my radar.

Anyways, I can comfortably say I liked it quite a bit. It was a little dull at times, but it was a fun film, and it certainly kept me intrigued with its characters. I like that it didn't get caught up in the nonsense and focused on the character development. I thought it would be predictable, but it actually caught me off guard a few times which I like.
I certainly didn't expect the end, and while it was out there, I appreciated the open ended nature of it.

Trevorrow made a really good film here, even if it did follow many indie tropes. People should definitely be sure to check it out, it has a fun cast and a cute story. If you have Netflix be sure to watch this, its available to stream and its a pretty short and enjoyable film.

On another note, think JP4 is in great hands- I only hope Trevorrow is ready for a film of that scale and scope. I hope he succeeds with it, not only because I am a JP fan, but because I want to see his career continue to progress and succeed.

Well I sat through the final Twilight film and well it was shit.

Why the fuck did they CGI the kids face for most of the film? Nightmare fuel.

Saw Anna Karenina. Knightley and Wright sure make a great team. Overall it's a gorgeous looking film and I liked it more than Atonement, but I still failed to make an emotional connection to it. I don't know, there's something lacking; perhaps his films are too clean. It did look great though, and I loved the style. 7/10

I saw Robot and Frank this morning.

It's a lovely film, the sort of thing you might call "a charming trifle". It's bittersweet but charming and quirky but without being sickly sweet or anything, and is anchored by great performances from Frank Langella and whoever it is in the robot suit.

Thankfully much less heart breaking than the last film I watched about dementia, Iris.

And as a added bonus, I was the only person in the cinema!

Last night's movie night:

Jennifer's Body: Very fun movie. Never knew what was going to happen next. Just a lot of fun.

Wrong Turn: WTF!?!

Deliverance: Well then.

The Tree of Life
This film is incredible. The cinematography sticks out. Generally, I subscribe to the school of thought that encourages DP's and directors to hold onto their strong images for as long as possible. The Tree of Life rarely does that, cutting from shot to gorgeous shot within mere seconds, but since nearly every image is as well-composed as those that precede and follow it, it's seamless.

I get all that. I just don't get why everyone forgets their storyline once
Frodo dies in the ice storm
.

Watched The Big Lebowski for the first time.

I've been told numerous times that almost everyone hates this movie the first time they watch it and then proceed to love it after repeat viewings. I actually enjoyed it, a big deal is made about Jeff Bridges' character but for me John Goodman stole the damn show.

Also, I think it's a cold-hard fact that every movie is improved by a factor of 100 when Sam Elliot is in it.

I just finished watching Before Sunrise, loved it. Gonna watch Before Sunset soon. :)

Saw 21 Jump Street. I had a good time. It fell apart a bit towards the end, but it was still enjoyable. Also, there's no way Tatum or Hill could ever pass for teenagers. And damn, that Franco guy is so hot, much hotter than his brother (they have the same smirk lol). 6/10

Also Saw Oz the Great and Powerful a few days ago, but didn't mention it here. Crappy, but it had its moments. I liked the climax, but the acting was awful for the most part. I still enjoyed it though. 5/10

Ugh, 21 Jump Street was terrible, it wasn't even funny and completely unrealistic. Bloody 3/10 from me.

Well, I wasn't looking for realism when I was watching it. It certainly wasn't trying to be are artistic or deep film, and I didn't mind. It wasn't boring, so it has that going for it.

Who the hell was looking for realism in that movie?

I watched it without watching the trailer first. I was expecting at least SOME sort of realistic story line or something. I'm stupid, I should've gone in with no expectations.

...and it wasn't even funny. The jokes were, uh, dry.

Argo
Takes so little risk that Ben Affleck might as well have been coached by Marathon Man's Laurence Olivier. Goes basically through the motions. Not boring though. And nice early 80's feel. 2,5/5

ASM on cable. Haven't seen it since the theatre. It honestly boggles my mind how anybody could like this more than Raimi's films. Shit is so goddamn terrible.

I have to admit its an amazing film to hate watch though.

I watched Let Me In last night and it was pretty bad. The CGI and digital animations were jarring and the dialogue was pure cheese, imo. Granted I was a bit distracted during some points.

I'll have to see the original though, I hear it's better.

kid killings in the brood are pretty graphic iirc, though I'm second-guessing and thinking you may not directly see hammer hit toddler-noggin
edit: cheery start to a new page

Wanted to show my g/f the movie after watching Seven Psychopaths. Once that scene hit though, she didn't want to watch it anymore. People are sensitive about that shit.

Yep. It's too bad your girlfriend can't handle that because it's going to turn her away from a lot of great art in the medium but unless she's a critic or something, it's not a big deal. Everybody's entitled to their tastes and thresholds.

I wonder how she'd have felt if they killed the dog in Seven Psychopaths like they intended to.

I like some of the casting choices more, and some of the scenes really excelled, but the second half of the movie is pretty damn shitty generic action.

Most were probably fine with him dying though :P

That reminds me, I think Schindler's List had a couple of kids dying too, right? Or were they kind of old?
1. Fuck you. Rufio is the man.

2. Plenty of kids did die in Schindler, but the only one I can remember happening on screen is the kid who tries to run away, before being lifted up by the two soldiers and shot.

The kid who couldn't clean Goeth's tub gets shot just off camera and is then walked by with his brains all over the road.

1. Hey man, I'm just busting your balls. You know I love you ;). Sometimes all the love you and others have for that movie makes me wonder whether I should rewatch it, it's been ages.

2. Yeah, that's the kid I was thinking about.

166) War Horse 2011

Liked this, also like how
even though the horse went to war, war again that he managed to get it back at the end

167)When a woman ascends stairs

Story of a lady that gets used by a man who uses marriage to get what he wants and a needy family and all she wants to do is stop being a geisha and own a bar.

168)Playback 2012

Holy shit this made 246 bucks on a 7.5 million budget. The plot was kinda eh, evil power traveling through video screens. I assume the ending was suppose to lead to another, but i can only imagine the 246 box office return canned that idea :P

169) The Van 1977

Pretty terrible movie that resolves around a guy who just got a new van and him trying to get this chick. Danny Devito has a role in this movie, was skinny once who knew!

170) Reindeerspotting Escape from Santaland 2010

This guy who does drugs with his friends and commits crimes, decides to start filming their actions. At one point they are traveling europe on 5k euro that he got from a grocery store safe. Kinda depressing documentary on ones addictions and what they'll do to get their fix

171) Changing Lanes 2002

Affleck is a rich lawyer and Samuel L Jackson is just a dad trying to keep his kids on the east coast. They end up getting into a minor accident, what happens is Affleck accidentally leaves a important document with SLJ and throughout the movie he tries to recover it from him. Decent

172) Atlantis: The Lost Empire 2001

decent animation movie, but gotta say michael j. fox voice didnt feel right for the character they attached it too.

173) Hellboy 2004

Only rewatch of the weekend, really enjoy the Hellboy movies

My movie per day watch is nearly below 2 after being above 3

Warrior - I realized that my opinion of this movie is much higher when I accept the fact at how ridiculous the scenario set up in the movie was.
Two unknown underdogs against all odds beating all the best MMA fighters. Kurt Angle dressed up as a super Russian antagonist. The group of naysayers who in the end are in the crowd cheering them both on.
Ignoring that however, the journey of the characters in the film was just so good, and it had great timing and action throughout.
Also the end of the last match made had me tearing up a bit
9/10

Finally saw The Adventures of Tintin. A bit over the top, silly, and had lots of those perfect timing moments, but I loved it. As a fan of the animated series growing up I was pleased. The animation looked kind of odd sometimes, but it was mostly top notch. 7/10

Those scenes that were supposed to build suspense were so poorly written and executed. It was obvious that the real story of what happened was very interesting yet wouldn't make a good movie, so they had to add a bunch of shit to keep people munching popcorn.

Like the airline ticket confirmation scene. For absolutely no reason, Ben and the group are standing at the airport desk while Bryan Cranston is running around yelling "Jesse! We need these plane tickets!" The audience is led to believe there's a big moment of danger here because the whole group could be caught. And of course, "check your computer again, please!" and "WOW THE TICKETS ARE HERE NOW!" I bet this was completely fabricated for this stupid movie.

Then there's the phone ringing for 10 minutes while some mouth-breathing doritos-eater tells the guy that it's a closed set and he can't go to his phone. It's a matter of life and death and we're supposed to believe he stood there that long before saying screw it and just powering his way through to the phone? It was another scene added to remind people they were watching a movie and not a documentary and it wasn't successful or believable at all.

And of course, one of the most laughable parts is when the plane is taking off and being chased down the runway by jeeps...I won't get into how absolutely stupid this is because I think it's quite obvious. And when the one hard-nosed character who hated Affleck finally gets involved to save the group, and he and Affleck become buds, it has no impact whatsoever. The characters were barely developed at all so none of their actions or outcomes mattered.

I cannot stand this awful movie. I will never understand why people like it so much. I can understand not hating it, but actually loving it is inconceivable.
