One month from today: BioShock Infinite

sarcasm? pretty sure he worked on the game.

Not saying it won't be though...I think the game looks amazing. So very excited for it.

I walked out of the room as soon as it started playing. Embarassing stuff if the 30-sec ad is anything to go by. Hate seeing something I like being so poorly represented.

Yeah, same as last time, just extended, as far as content. They're just trying to get some basic, main ideas out to the mainstream crowd:
- Rescue the girl
- She helps you
- You have crazy powers
- You're in a floating city/can use skylines
- Crazy religious fundamentalists
- Steampunk cyborgs

I think that's all they're looking to convey to people. Same as the CG trailers for BS1 and 2.

I'm playing through Bioshock again and I had forgotten how creepy and unsettling it is.

Is this going to be like that? I haven't been paying very close attention but it doesn't really give off that vibe from the footage I've seen.

Just about to post this. Creepy shit.

The best thing I've re-experiences so far is the dentist room
where fog comes in and you turn around and the splicer is just standing right behind you.
WHAT THE FUCK MAN!!!

I hope they focus on the how creepy religion is angle in B:I. There's a goldmine of material there.

I thought the first gameplay trailer for this game was creepy as hell. Surprisingly so for a bright and colourful setting. It's all in the sound design I think.

Recent media hasn't really displayed that side well, but it's definitely going to explore some heavy themes. I think it's going to be creepy in the way that an unhinged amusement park is creepy... there's a sense of the sinister lurking just under the surface, keeping you on edge. Also I'm sure there will be some darker areas to explore to get your pulse racing.

Need a few seconds to vent here so feel free to ignore this post, its just something I have to make, I loved beyond words Bioshock 1, it wasnt the best shooter ive ever played, not the best psionic mix ive played, not even the greatest mission structure. What i loved about Bioshock was rapture and how utterly enthralling the place was, I had literally never played a game like it. The art style, the tone, the voice acting, the immersive story and wonderful set pieces put it up there with hl2 as my favourite experience gaming. For all its faults I also loved Bioshock 2, basically I consider rapture to be the single best set piece for a game and would welcome any and all chance to go back to it, the only reason I dont rank Bioshock as my favourite game of all time is because of the combat. Since i saw the reveal of Infinite I have been really down on the tone and look of Columbia, it feels so out of kilter with what I consider a Bioshock game to be, I honestly got the feeling that this was a different game with the Bioshock tag slapped on to sell copies, Bioshock was rapture to me. From every video ive seen I have become less convinced, except for one thing, the early video where for a brief second, while reviving the horse suddenly the whole scene changes and Booker is in the 1950's mainstreet. That part is the sole single reason im keeping my pre-order.

Anyone else got a similar vibe?

Thought the WD trailer was alright it got all the basics of the game down without just showing it off as another generic shooter. Dunno what you guys were expecting.

Can't take such a chance. :)

I'll just do the same thing I did for that. Complain since I'm a Prime member and get them to change to to one day shipping for free. Had the Premium preordered for a while and I was able to put credit from GoW:A on it so it's only $10 more than the standard.

Yeah the dentist room lol. I think my heart jumped out of my chest when that happened.

The sound design, the subversive themes, the art work. I think it's all very Bioshock. Or at least, it feels that way to me.

The game seems to have brightened up considerably since then though, so who knows...

Wow that was fast thanks garfep. What you guys going to show this week for BioShock. :)

You'll have a much better idea of what's coming as of tomorrow at noon. :)

As for content, Tues-Thur we'll have video interviews, commentaries from Ken over the first parts in Columbia, etc.

Aye, for what it is worth, despite feeling extremely saddened by the reveal the actual reveal footage has become somewhat my favourite over the last few years, and even that seems to have been redone.

1950s street? Return of the Jedi came out in the 80's.

The similarities between the two games are still strong, thematically and visually. A propaganda-choked Utopia gone bad by vying super powers. It's all there. It may not be as consistently dark as BioShock, but an assured setting is what made the first game special. A strong sense of mystery and exploration are all core elements of Infinite's design (as far as we can tell).

Yeah I was going to do that but it wouldn't come on release day on Amazon.

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

You mean, I had to pay double, and I don't freaking get it on release day? Holy shit, I hate Amazon.

EDIT: The ad wasn't so bad, it'll definitely attract the attention of people watching TWD. Which is great.

Thought the commercial was crap.

Mostly because I've been following all of the media and info about this game, and I know that the trailer sells the game short on everything but action.

However...
IT'S A GOOD COMMERCIAL.

This is because it will attract more people. We, who've been in the loop, already knoow what to expect, what this games all about, and the general feel of it. People who are the obvious target audience for this spot are going to see it with virgin eyes and think, wow that looks sick, I'll look into it.

Same story as the cover..

honestly I'd be glad if more devs did this. Instead of dumbing the game down, dumb the trailers, TV spots, covers down. You want to sell a lot, and that means dudebro, but once they buy it, they'll find a deeper game than they were anticipating and hopefully they'll like it and it will make them want more.

I knew the "this is not a bioshock" stuff was coming, but it is much earlier than I expected. Like I thought it was all going to come flooding in with the OT, so much for that.
