But Sony is not making you install games on the HDD.
And we know this how? Neither MS nor Sony have had their E3 conference but yet everyone in this thread knows exactly what Sony and MS are doing.
You guys are a trip.

Each one of those things alone doesn't bother me that much. My 360 is always connected (when it's on), I install most games as the HDD space is ample. Kinect just sits there for the most part. But put them together and...

Uh, yes it does. Both the Basic and Deluxe systems come with sensor bars. Are you crazy?

OMG SONY PATENTED THIS SO OBVIOUSLY THEY PLAN TO IMPLEMENT IT
God.
No optical audio out? This is upsetting...
All games install? Dear god what has bluray done? They better make these hard drives HUGE

The reason that people are freaking is that every Durango rumor (including this one) reinforces the negative "no used games" rumor.
Where does it say that you can't use the system without an Internet connection? Where does it say that games won't play at all if Live goes down? That's not really the issue. I'm sure everyone's PC was connected to the internet when trying to play Diablo III or SimCity. It's not *your* internet connection that's the issues, it's the availability of the servers you have to authenticate with / connect to that are.
While Live has been far more robust than PSN over the years, it's not bullet proof, and still has scheduled maintenance times (which always favour the US, so in my timezone, are the hours I can play games).
Why do some PS3 games have forced installs?d0c_zaius said:why the F would you deny playing straight off of discs?
Uuugggggghhhhhhhhhh. This is going to be worse than I thought. I was hoping things had changed from initial rumors.
Why do people equate "always connected" with "must be connected"?

As always, execution is key.
If it flows well and provides a desirable service (iOS), it'll do well.
If it's klunky and painful (Windows 8 style), it'll get a bad rep.
Sure, I do not say that they will implement it. But they are obviously thinking about it and the Kinect only state is making sure they can make it happen.

So this is GAF's true form =O:And yet we make fun of Pachter's predictions.... lol

Past rumors from this website.
How will your games be authenticated? It says discs are only used for distribution. It could be implied that they'll also be used to authenticate, but the wording makes it sound like you won't need them to be in the drive. Which means either online authentication or kinect authentication, which might make some sense out of the requirement for kinect to be plugged in for the console to work.
Not really. Taking into account both the small PC games and huge PC games you aren't looking at full BR sized games yet. Not even close. The overall size of the medium is massive, games don't use it yet though.
Connected + the word always and + maintain are not the same as required. And as a technical document the expectation is that if its required it would state required...like the other required bits it mentions.
It sounds bad, but other credible publications have said the same thing about a required connection.IIRC it was the same. People just interpreted it as the above. I mean, that would be suicide. MS can't expect every single owner to have an internet connection.
Thank you.
I have been saying it since page bloody 3. The faked outrage in this thread is tiresome.
Isn't that what always connected is? No connection, no play?
It is telling that Microsoft and Sony seem to be going with 50 GB Blu Ray drives and not the 100 GB ones. They must have had assurances from developers that 50 GB will be more than enough for next gen games.
You need the disc to play the game for verification. (Like this gen)
My take.
Will it require an always connected to the Internet state?
No.
Will it be able to have an always on connection to the network at your home for sharing media instantly as you move from one room to another. Say from your tv to your PC back to your tv. Will you be able to control downloads from your online dash and so forth like the 360 but with a better interface and include things like movies and so forth.
Yes.
It is actually somewhat of a big deal if it IS always on and always connected. In a good way, for the various reasons people mentioned with updates and so forth. But not required.
Kinect + the word required

No one ever doubt EDGE again.

Looks like Microsoft made up my mind for me.
