Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

Man some of you all are conservative with your lists, you know you all are going to buy more than 3 games for the Vita this year......you just don't know it yet. PS+ is a blessing and a curse for me, all the free games and discounts makes amassing games far to easy.

AWWWWWWWWWW TOP OF THE PAGE!!!!!!!

Buy Stranger's Wrath, halfway through it right now and it is a very good game and it packs a lot of content in it for a $15 game.

Warrior's Lair, if it actually comes out.

Maybe Dragon's Crown. It looks neat, but it depends on how much replay value it has.

Maybe Killzone. I have no interest in the IP, just want a halfway decent FPS for the Vita, but I have doubts that it will be a decent FPS, given Killzone's rather lackluster track record.

Well it's from a different studio this time(that used to make good games back in the day),so there is hope.

that why I didn't make a list, you never know what will happen, some games might turn crap and some might be good out of no where.

I guess we'll see some tearaway this week

- Ys IV: Memories of Celceta
- Muramasa Rebirth
- Lone Survivor
- Hotline Miami
- Binding of Isaac
- Machinarium
- Thomas Was Alone
- Velocity Ultra
- Guacamelee

And maybe I'll buy...
- Final Fantasy X
- Final Fantasy X-2
- Tearaway
- Killzone Mercenary
- Luftrausers
- Frozen Synapse
- Bit Trip Runner 2

That's what I remember...

yeah few days ago MM said they are going to Pax http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/article/were_going_to_pax_east_-_come_and_say_hello/

image002_paxeast_thumb.jpg

hopefully the game got graphically improved.

This frustrates me so much. This game wouldn't look any better at all if it were on PS3 even. It's an ART STYLE. The game has amazing image quality, animation, details, and lighting. You don't like the art style. That's the only problem you have. It's not a problem with the graphics.

So guys, what's on your to-buy list for the Vita this year?

Games that haven't come out yet:

Soul Sacrifice
Muramasa
Dragon's Crown
Tearaway
Final Fantasy X HD (should come stateside, but you never know)
Final Fantasy X-2 HD (same as above)
Ys Celcetta
Killzone (won't ever play it, but will buy to support the dev)
Guacamelee
The Binding of Isaac
Machinarium

Games already out (outside of the current sale; I already made my choices on which of those games I'm getting):

Virtua Tennis
Sonic All Stars
Stranger's Wrath HD
Rayman Origins

...And too many more to mention. I'll be getting all of these digital, too (it's actually cheaper to buy PSN cards and buy the digital versions of games in the country I live in than to buy retail thanks to the extremely ridiculous import duty - up to 60% of any purchase!). I'll either be juggling between my 16 and 32 gig cards till the end of time, or getting a bigger memory card whenever Sony decides to release on.

I know it suppose to be worlds made of papers and that the art style of the game, but look at this gif for an example

mostly it look very good but the effects are bad and like the snow is just lackluster and some area almost feel empty or "soulless",but if they can improve/fix that it'll be great.

The snow is supposed to be made of paper, like everything in the world. It's part of the style, and for people who like the art style (like me), that gif looks AWESOME. And I don't think it's fair to say an area looks soulless based on half a second of footage of it.

Fuahahahaha!

Powered through Shijuku Gessen Jogakkan(Yumi's school) today and finally unlocked Homura's group, my favorite and only locked school! You can unlock them from the beginning using a code, but I wanted to be "legit" and unlock them!

That why they should show us more of the game, don't you agree ? :)

Erm, that GIF is incredible. A very cohesive art style, and (a rarity nowadays) a gorgeous and consistent color palette.

yessss it's so much fuuuuunnn, I've reluctantly neglected it the past few days but now I won't be able to put it down.

How's the import friendliness?
English menus? :<
I never got my impressions up yet, bah! :P

There are no English menus, but there is a guide here and it's pretty easy to get through the menus after one or two goes. As for the gameplay itself, completely import friendly.

*need to see what yesasia is doing with my order*

I ordered a few books from yesasia recently, which took 11 days to ship..the original estimate was 14 days. Which was frustrating because one of the books was in in only a few days. But I suppose it beats them never finding the other item, which I've read having happened.

Only worth ordering from Yesasia if they're much cheaper than everywhere else and you have weeks to burn. They don't have anything 'in stock', they order it from suppliers, take forever and might be out of stock when you order it without knowing..

Tbh I found it a bit overwhelming. I used to have the time to put into import titles (I sunk way too many hours into Tokyo Bus Driver back in the day) but I just couldn't shake the feeling I was missing so much content in Senran because I couldn't understand Japanese so I've got mine up for sale. DOA is pervy enough for me anyway.

went to check on my order and it seems like Ayase Haruka new movie will be delaying my order for a day or two

*and yeah I love Japanese romantic comedies..you should too.

yeah it's a pain, but they get my new and very old gravure idol dvds fast so I don't mind them.

Awesome.
I might consider importing as long as there isn't too much reliance on the text in the story mode.

freaking japanese romantic comedies ruining orders

Be warned that there's a whoooooooole lot of talking and story to it, so I(and you, if you get it) will miss a whole lot of backstory and inbetween stuff, but it's still loads of fun.

Eh, that plus Fusebox's impressions are making me a bit less enthusiastic. :/
I'm assuming there are plenty of unlockables tied to the story?

And how does the game play?

EDIT:
$65 Aussie dollarie-doos.

That's a fair price. Cheaper then the import sites I've been looking at, at least.
I guess I'll bite, if me living in the US isn't going to cause any issues.

So ended up getting EDF despite the advice to wait for a price drop from Vitagaf. Enjoying it so far.

I'm holding out hope Senran gets localized (know its a slim chance).

Kind of want to get DOA5 Vita despite me being terrible at it. Any impressions on the PSP DOA volleyball game thats packaged with the DOA5? Any recommended DLC sets/packs should I get DOA5 Vita?

If my internet weren't terribad, I would play some EDF with you. :b
I think there were some Paradise impressions in the DoA5+ OT.

EDIT: For DLC, I recommend everything sexy.

So guys, what's on your to-buy list for the Vita this year?

Well, just bought 3 games the other day:
DOA5+
Atelier Totori Plus
Silent Hill Book of Memories (plus Expansion Pack)

Which leaves:
Hotline Miami
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
EDF 2017
DOA5+ DLC

And maybe:
Soul Sacrifice
Killzone
Tearaway

So guys, what's on your to-buy list for the Vita this year?

32 GB card
- Ys IV: Memories of Celceta
- Thomas Was Alone
- Guacamelee
- Atelier Totori Plus
- Tearaway
- Bit Trip Runner 2

Assuming I don't get wholly consumed by heart of the swarm once I get a new gaming pc.

Urgh, I want to buy a 16 GB memory card. Kinda hard to find a used one from where I'm living. Need to search for one thoroughly.

Edit: Is 8GB good enough for PSN games (I don't purchase the retail PSN games)? I'll be reserving my 4GB Memory Card for my PSOne/PSP classics.

In Japan, SCE recently held a competition to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Gravity Rush's launch. It was a fan art competition that had to be drawn via Paint Park. The winners were chosen by staff from the game. SCE uploaded a video recently.

Games

<3

can't wait for Dragon Crown and Muramasa..
now if they would bring Odin Sphere as well

dang. I hope Capcom would localise MHP3 too... (is the PSP version on the JP PSN store? hopefully we can apply fan-translations..)

man.. I wish I have the wallet you guys have to just buy games.. on release :O

Nah, that's always come back to bite me later. Always better to wait for a sale or price drop unless you really feel like playing the game right away.

(The only definite exception is P4G. Glad I got that one as soon as it came out. )

Speaking of sales, can anyone make the case for Persona 1 & 2? I watched gameplay vids on youtube and I'm still on the fence.

Not gonna happen... that ship sailed the moment Monster Hunter was announced on 3DS.

Any Vita bros still playing Monster Hunter Freedom? Picked it up tonight (a steal at $10!). Definitely addictive. Going to take it online tomorrow with Ad Hoc Party. I got it to tide me over until Soul Sacrifice drops.

P1 is fun if you like first person dungeon crawlers. It's a little tedious and definitely feels dated at times, but I personally loved the remixed soundtrack, and enjoyed the game as a whole. P2 is a more traditional PS1 RPG. Story and characters are great, but at its core its also a random encounter heavy dungeon crawler. I think they're both great, but verrry different from P3 and P4.

Capcom's never localizing the PSP version. They were interested in bringing over the PS3 version, but Capcom sucks.

Got the platinum in Sound Shapes (and I guess 1 for ps3 as well). I haven't raged at a game in so long. Fucking indie platformers, what a goddamn worthless genre. Remind me to never buy one again even if it offers a platinum trophy.

Death mode in SS is awful and entirely unlike other indie platformers.

Don't let death mode sour what is otherwise a great game.
Pfft, death mode is the best part of Sound Shapes. Love that game, one of my top five Vita games.
