Will the cards I earn or purchase in the beta test carry over into the live game? What happens if I purchased beta card packs for real money?
Prior to launch your card collection will be reset, and any cards you acquired through a purchased card pack or earned during the beta test will be removed. However, any purchases you made during the beta test will be credited back to you in the form of new, unopened card packs at launch, equal to the value you spent during the beta test. Please note that these will not contain the same cards as those received from card packs in the beta test. Also, as a thank-you for testing out the in-game store during Hearthstone’s beta phase, everyone who purchased a card pack in the beta test will get a special gift.
To be fair, this will probably be better than Diablo 3.
They said summer for beta. This looks awesome, just disappointed "soon" means probably Nov./Dec. and even later for iPad.
Honestly the concept for this is awful. I mean the game itself looks polished and probably isn't too bad but you can tell that the idea for this came up in a board meeting at Blizzard between a bunch of high ranking suits who are being pressured by even higher ranking suits that the company's revenue isn't meeting their targets.
"Hey guys, since our WoW revenue is falling, we need another game that requires players to constantly shell out money for virtual goods."
I hate cynical bullshit like this from big corporations.
It'll probably be much more fun to play than to look at.

or they wanted to make a magic style ccg game because they like playing them...
I think Magic showing it was a profitable game to make may have influenced the decision to make this game.

No rare loot cards that will give you pets and mounts in WoW? If they added that they would sell a bunch of packs.
This isn't even a new model for MMO's never mind online card games in general. Both FFXI and EQ/EQ2 had online card games built into them, with EQ and EQ2 doing the whole selling booster packs thing. I could be misremembering but I believe the FFXI online card game even added money on to your monthly sub fee.
Good business decision on blizzards part and it looks fun enough to give a shot, about all I could imagine coming out of a pax east announcement for them. I can at least be exited about prospective fun had with an online card game as opposed to yet another sleeping pill in the form of a game that is MOBA.

Sure, but I think the Magic The Gathering PC games appealed to a lot of people card games usually don't, because it was cheap, on Steam, had a good tutorial, and was a solid game.
