The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon (3rd Daybreak Game) Delayd to Jan '26, Adds Switch 2 Version (Game Key-Card)

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon will launch for Switch 2 alongside its previously announced PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG) versions in January 2026, publisher NIS America announced. This is a delay from its previously planed fall 2025 release window.

"I'm excited to announce that the latest entry in Nihon Falcom's Trails series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon, will also be released on Nintendo Switch 2," says Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo in a press release. "With the power of the Nintendo Switch 2, we expect players to have an even more enjoyable experience. In fact, this will mark the debut of the Trails series on the Nintendo Switch 2, and I personally have high expectations for it. Please continue to look forward to the release!"

Pre-orders for the Switch 2 version of the NIS America Online Store limited edition are now available for $109.99. It will ship on a game-key card. Pre-orders for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Switch versions are also available for $99.99.

Good they were releasing this and the remake way to closer together. I would have never been able to play both back to back.

Honestly, playing Daybreak 2 just half a year after Daybreak 1 made me feel burnt out. I don't think I paid attention to most things happening in the game, couldn't even tell you who the main bad guy was.

Paying $10 more for the SW2 limited edition and it still comes on a key card instead of a proper cart. NIS America has seriously lost the plot...
I am yet to buy a Switch 2. But mostly because there is noting at the moment I want to play. I was planning on buying one once Metroid releases. But given the key-card route most third parties are taking, I think I am skipping the Switch 2 all together.

Game Key means I'm skipping this. Will probably pick up the Switch 1 copy and play that.

Fuck, it should have been the other way around. Delay the remake and give the sweet new game to us as soon as possible. What a disappointment.

Wait. Not only does this come on a key cart but it also costs $10 more then all the other versions? If it was just the non-Nintendo versions that were cheaper I would just think that it's normal Nintendo bullshit but it's more expensive then the Switch version...

Maybe the Switch version doesn't have anything on the cart as well?

Wonder if the switch version will have the whole game on the card. Kinda bummed by the delay but having a switch 2 version is cool.

Do we know if Falcom had a Switch 2 devkit, my bet is they delayed it because of the Switch 2 version.
What is funny, they put an extra $10 for that version of the game.
Which as many of you have said this is ok because of Chapter 1 release.

If we're lucky they'll make the demo avalible for the masses.

Not sure how important a demo is for this game, unless progress carries over to the full game and you want to get a head start.

No one should be starting the series with this game, and if you've played the others, you know what to expect. Pretty sure this uses the same engine as the other two Daybreak games.

They probably will. Both the first two games of this sub series had demos which let you carry over progress.

Yea this. I don't know why you'd need a demo for this game. It makes perfect sense to release a demo for Trails in the Sky Remake since that will be a lot of people's entry point into Trails, but for Daybreak 3 it's completely unnecessary.

I'll never complain over getting a demo, but yeah the % of people this would be a decision maker for getting the game is probably very low.

The resurgence of demos in general has been great to see, the industry seemed to be allergic to the idea for many years.

Good. It made no sense to release it so close to TitS Remake., they would just be cannibalizing their sales. Plus it gives me more time to get around to playing Daybreak II.
