Okay, TeamCG. Come own up to your foolishness. #trolljima

Is Joakim Mogren CG?

Can't wait for the meltdowns when this is confirmed to not be CG.

Thinking the contrary is absurd

No hope for the human race.

I wouldnt even expect them to come out and say this isnt cg. They never intended for people to be crazy enough to think that Joakim is rendered. Nothing at all will be said at gdc, not even in passing. TeamCG will still insist its cg when Kojima doesnt say it isnt.

Joakim's not real, never was, never will be. He's just an old CG, hired to do some deception work.

I thought I knew you man. :(

I thought you'd know the difference between CG and reality. Handbags have been drawn and eyebrows have been raised.

See you on the battlefield

When he says nothing, it's real by default.
If it's cg, he will want to tell the world.

I want to believe so badly because Kojima, but #TeamReal has shamed me into submission. I will see you all on the other side and may God have mercy on us all.

I can imagine two possible scenarios:

Joakim is real.

What is ok

- The purpose of the interview is to reveal that Phantom Pain uses the Fox Engine.

What is not ok

- The interview is too long and has a lot of unanswered questions, not well bound to carry the final surprise.

- Both person in separate rooms does not make sense, if you pay an actor, hires an actor in the same city that Geoff. Otherwise, Geoff has no problems to travel for interviews either.

- The lighting that might suggest that Joakim is cgi is unnecessary. You can fail your advertising if people think Joakim has some secret and in the end is false.

- If it is real, why have more time eyes closed than opened? and why do these expressions? And his face bandaged? If you have a mystery, behave well means that the mystery is related to the character, what mystery may be?

- If Joakim is real and a half of internet is talking about being cgi, you must say is real as fast as possible. You don't want disappointment when you show your final cards.

- If Joakim is real, no one would have thought that possibility in Konami. Nobody would talk to Geoff about that possibility, so Geoff could have voted TeamCG in the neogaf poll to have some fun, but he voted TeamReal. Why he voted TeamReal? Why he wanted to dispel doubts as quick before Konami said anything?

Joakim is cgi

What is not ok

- Too real for actual tech (depends of the tech, right?)

- Too expensive for actual tech (depends of the tech again, right?)

What is ok

- Look at this -> Emily making off http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErODDCNQWdA

Emily demo is from 5 years ago. Emily demo uses Image Metrics tech. Konami works with Image Metrics. Current generation of consoles can not even remotely close to that. And maybe not the next, but will be much closer. To develop this technology only for games, if you are a game developer, not worth it. But developing this technology and sell it to game developers and filmmakers may be worth. If you are Image Metrics you want the most atention in a game devoloper conference, right? I Konami is working with you and they have a photorealistic engine using light, you can prepare a demo (not necessarily real time) to wow people in both techs: lighting (fox engine) + capturing/animation (image metrics 2.0)

- Why do it if is not realtime? Because they can show a tech and later apadt it for every end platform. They can use full spec version for offline cinematics too.

- Why the bandages? If you look Emily demo, actress uses a brown makeup in the face where they add the cgi face. This makeup creates a contour that facilitates position for final blend frame by frame. But this contour is blurred. Staring at the video, the face is not always in the right place, there are moments that lack synchronization. How can you get a perfect sync? Ideally you would have a grid painted on the face and also in the model, and make them fit in each frame, right? A grid is a series of vertical and horizontal lines. As the bandages. If the actor's face is bandaged when recorded and digital face also has bands, the blend of the two images will be perfect.

- This explains the clipping of teeth and lack of reaction of the pupils. And also explains why Joakim do and in exaggerated way in a few seconds each and every one of the hardest to get animations in digital facil animation (lips that hook, eye movements after eyelids, lower lip dimples, wrinkles on lips , moving mouth asymmetrically, asymmetric movements of the eyebrows, etc). Geoff is more time in front of the camera and does nothing of this.

My vote is for TeamCG, and I have no fear of being wrong. If not 27th, in near future the perfect cgi face will be possible.

Nah.. The marketing people couldn't be happier with what's happening right now. Assuming it is real and they never intended for these discussions to take place they must be really happy they managed to create hype and buzz out of nothing.

There's never been CG anywhere close to that good in any medium ever.

You people are just fucking around.

This. KojiPro suddenly leaping ten years ahead of every other professional CG producer in the known universe, with a fucking game engine (if the idea is that this is meant as an example of what Fox Engine can achieve), is just ridiculous.

.
Because of the trailer...... Kojima having a bit of fun.

This was a scoop for Gametrailers to show that Phantom pain was running on Fox Engine. For some kojima stupid reason that was kept a mystery untill is "interview"

And there were no teeth clipping.

- The interview is too long and has a lot of unanswered questions, not well bound to carry the final surprise.

It's like not even 2 minutes.. it very well could have been made as an ad for Kojima's GDC panel in an obscure Kojima sort of way.

So basically, 40% of this thread are fools?

If anything, this thread has made it easier to 'clean up GAF'

Just ban whoever voted for CG and we will have a lot less problems.

Wow guys, this thread has sure turned nasty. I voted Team CG just for fun, but some of you guys are taking this way too seriously. Christ.

To be fair, Nintendo fans haven't really been exposed to CG before. Can't really blame them for mistaking it with reality.
