Haha, Lulu's battle celebration! If you had been using haste during a battle and got to see a close-up of Lulu during the celebration, her animation looped awkwardly and made it look like her boobs did a weird, jittery dance.

Ahh, the things teenage me remembers.

She was a great character though, I fail to understand how anyone would think she's a mute considering she directly guides you in virtually every new location. She was a mothering figure to Yuna and a guide to Spira for the player.

Damn, did Lulu really look that bad in the original? It's amazing how your memory can play tricks on you. This seems to be a very decent visual upgrade.

That's the lower-poly model in that shot though, you have to remember the game swaps between them during dialogue depending on how many there are on screen/distance from camera, the higher-poly models are still very impressive for the time in my opinion. Clever performance optimisation if I do say so.

Found these screenshots of the PS2 character models. It's quite possible they're just getting rid of the really low-poly models you see often, a welcome change.

I was actually flipping through some FFX cutscenes today (I'm sitting here in a lab with not much to do). They used the lower poly models A LOT.

Yup, that's it.

I wonder if they'll use the same character models in and out of battle? If not I'm curious as to how the battle models look.

Don't most FF's have higher quality versions for fights?

Nah, I think they still have two sets of models--I remember that this scene in particular used both the high poly Yuna and the low poly everyone else and the Tidus in the remaster's screenshot looks of lower quality than the high poly one in the close up screen.

Looking closer I'm starting to think they're still using the lower poly models at times, but they've swapped the main body with the higher poly model - just a head swap (EDIT: though slightly improved) in otherwords.

Side rant;
I hope so much that they do something about the motion capture of the characters during closeups. They look like they're having some sort of physical reaction with all the shaking they do.

All this talk about FFX inspired me to dig out the OST, and damn its still one of the very best game soundtracks ever.

Fantastic tunes, that really remind me why I loved this game back in the. Such a lot of variety too.

They still use separate models, but they are each improved like most of everything else.

To Zanarkand is such a beautiful melody, easily one of my fav FF songs.

Kill the blasphemer! How could you want to 'redo' Uematsu's music??

Because most of Uematsu/Hamuzu/Nakano's tracks use the PS2's built-in sound chip and could benefit from more live performances and better synths!!

The brilliance of the songwriting in this game deserves such a treatment.

They could at least use some of the piano collections arrangement, Distant World's english translation of Suteki Da Ne (with Susan Callowey singing ON-key), and hamauzu's re-recording of the dungeon music with live piano and string quartet from his Vielen Dank album!

I find it highly ironic how me wanting to play two HD remaster collections of PS2-gen games (FFX and KH) is going to keep me from playing a ton of games on my shiny new PS4 when the time comes (except for Infamous:SS)

god damn Lulu

Haha! I remember back then I was pretty bummed that Tidus couldn't get with Lulu. Back then I was desperate enough to read fanfiction. :lol #shame

What really? Are they like midis or something, not waveforms?

I hope they translate the song in the water part that was so odd how it was just sudden Japanese

This is the English version for the Distant World concerts sang by Susan Calloway who sang the themes for XI and XIV.

It's the credits version and not the particular one from Macalania Woods, but you get the idea. Is that what you'd prefer?

Personally, as much as I kind of like the English one by Susan, I think I'd prefer for them to stick to the original Japanese version.

I always use Lulu so much in battle that my 'affinity' towards her is always the highest for the small scenes that are dependant on it (who you ride the speeder bike thing with toward Macalania Temple, who jumps off the airship first near some end scene end, and a slightly longer farplane scene)

Meh, I'll agree with the other guy. I tend to like Susan's singing style and have very rarely liked any of the Japanese vocalists Square chooses for their "orchestral songs" in FF (ie. not something like the more upbeat, non-orchestral songs in something like Kingdom Hearts).

The chances of this outselling Lightning Returns are low, but it should be more profitable.

It's kind of amusing to think that it ends up being Lulu
who gets pregnant and settles down. Then again, Yuna probably would have if Tidus didn't disappear.
(X-2 spoilers)

You mean you didn't ship Lulu and Rikku together? Some faux yuri fan you are. :P

I always used Lulu but once I got to the Macalania Forest, I usually stuck to a party of Tidus, Rikku and Yuna. Kihamari is about the only character I just don't use...maybe if his Celestial Weapon wasn't such a pain to earn! Him and Wakka. I don't want to play Blitzball to earn jack...=(

Lulu is by far the best FFX character. Potentially my favorite FF female ever.

I'll be pretty excited to finally put her back in my party in FFX-2. Even though I don't mind Paine, but I still don't get why they made a new character for X-2 when you already had the perfect set of three ladies.

So many uses of the word model that I'm worried I might misunderstand or be misunderstood. Here's my impression of the new models;

Whoa. First I've heard this so it sounds pretty strange in English lol. Not a problem for stuff like Melodies of Life, Eyes on Me or Small of Two Piece since I've heard multiple language versions enough. This will take some getting used to

I wonder how an English Radical Dreamers would sound?

Wait there's affinity in FFX? I had no idea. Each time I've played the game it was always Lulu in those scenes for me. I just assumed that was standard...

Yeah but it's pretty minor. For the machina bikes you can also ride with Rikku or alongside Auron and Kimarhi. I think the person who jumps off the ship during the Sin battle can be just about anybody. Also whichever female Tidus has highest affinity with will throw him the blitzball during his last Overdrive.

I remember they said they had plans at times for the game to have different endings based on who had the most affinity with Tidus...I think. Take with a grain of salt.

This was my biggest complaint with FFX.

I spent the whole game ignoring or being mean to Yuna because Rikku was my gal.

You get some nice touches here and there, which are welcome, but the game eventually just throws it all out the window and ignores your choices anyway.

No PS3 screenshot has Tidus with that PS2 low poly face.
These are the new models and they are going to be used everywhere:

I'm unsure of akaoni's conclusion, but there are definitely still using more than one model--Tidus's face in that screenshot is definitely lower poly than the big close-up face shot.

Actually, looking at them closer, akaoni, I don't think your assessment is correct--the bodies maybe, but remake low-poly Tidus's hair is definitely not modeled the same as in the PS2 version and Lulu's face in that one shot is leaps and bounds above her low-poly face from the PS2 version (and that scene did use the low poly Lulu). Auron and Wakka's hair is definitely different as well.

It's the same face to me, it's just a different close up with a different facial expression.
Honestly it doesn't make any sense to use different models on the PS3 (and even the Vita), that was a compromise they had to use on PS2 but these consoles are both powerful enough to handle much better looking character models than what we're seeing here.
This is just a retouched PS2 game, let's be real.

Everybody looks so serious here like "I am gonna fuck you up real bad" but Wakka was just "Eh, wazzup everybody?" Hahahaha.

My favorite guy in FFX though. Can't wait to use him, Tidus, and Rikku/Yuna again to defeat those multi-million HP bosses.

But you know one thing this game really needs? BALANCE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ULTIMATE WEAPONS MORE! I mean, Tidus' Sun Sigil requirements was just murderously ridiculous and too-dependant-on-luck to actually achieve.

I switch in every character so they all gain AP.

Every battle.

Forever.

The random encounters encourage it anyway, and every character is useful. (Even Kimahri)

I dunno, I thought once you got the hang of it, that one was pretty easy to get. It just takes some practice. And some water to cool your nerves.

Wakka and Kihmari's though? Evil. And I wasn't too fond of dodging 200 bolts for Lulu's either (Messed up on 197).

New low quality models looks very good.. but honestly i don't like their static faces. But hey it's all right, still day one for me

the two faces don't look alike even if you take the angles into consideration
we know yuna has at least 2 models so why wouldn't tidus?
remember these?
