Considering that he can't run for public office anymore, he ought to just come out and say "legalize this shit, equality is a fundamental, god given right and it must be extended to every citizen of the United States of America. Fuck bigots. #yolo"

Last time this happened, Facebook exploded with disgusting homophobic people coming out of their holes to post racist and homophobic shit.

Good. As somebody without a Facebook I cannot do this, but you and others now have the opportunity to cull the heard and block those who hold those opinions.

In his presidential library they should have an exhibit with a giant flatscreen shaped like a phone that scrolls through all his tweets.

I've managed to dodge the Facebook bullet so I'm completely oblivious about the community mechanisms but I'm going to assume insane people are in the minority so they tend to have a number of sane friends/family/colleagues, how does that behavior not completely alienate them?

He came out in support of it last summer guys. This isn't a big deal.

Yeah, but it's still good to see it nonetheless.

There will be many people following Obama on Twitter outside of America who don't really see much of him on TV (like you may in the states). Like it or not Twitter (social media) is a very easy way to let your followers see your opinions these days.

It'll happen again.

Between this and all the gun control talk, conservatives are going to get really defensive. Probably try to get a real psycho in the white next time.

Uhhh...why is a guy who spent months telling us he supports gay marriage tweeting about gay marriage shocking?

I think everyone in America knows his position on this already.

It's great he supports it but via twitter?.... Seriously...

I dont see why it matters how he says it as long as he is saying it. And besides, Twitter and Facebook may be scoffed at, but they were a major part of his campaigning and apart of the reason he is a two term president.

He's just expressing support again because the Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments about gay marriage this week. He came out in support of gay marriage last summer.

If this is a response to the Supreme Court hearing, I'd love for him to come out in support for affirmative action in regards to that University of Texas case.

Oh fuck me, why did I read some of the responses?

"Maybe dog and owner can get married now too?

"They are not all human"

"Does that include polygamists, zoophiliacs, pedophiles? Or just those from whom you gain political points?"

During an election cycle non the less. I remember all the criticism he got for being a political opportunist. I thought it was pretty ballsy at the time though.

Considering that there are Democrats and independents that do not support equal rights, it was ballsy. It would have been easy to tow the line that everyone had towed before, but by coming out in support, he actually did something.

I live in Indiana. Insane people are not the minority. People like me who support marriage equality are. If I deleted everybody on my facebook who posted some insane/bigoted/racist shit I would only have like 15 contacts from in-state.

he answers to the guy saying that maybe now dog and human can get married too. he's saying that no they can't since a dog is not a human being.

ghst

thanks for the laugh
people should be more careful with:

because in context, it makes you out to be a repressed homophobe, biting your lip and begrudgingly accepting an unfavourable situation.

I doubt it unfortunatley. It's probably the most common argument I've heard from the religious folk. "If we allow the gays to marry, the next think you know we'll be marrying kids to adults and animals to farmers."

There is no way this is real. It just can't.
It isn't, that quote is from a parody piece.
That idiot did say that women are not covered under the equal protection clause, so I'm not sure why people need to make shit up to laugh at that lump of reactionary lard.
