Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

Ah ok. The initial Ground Zeroes footage seemed more obviously running on PC... this GDC gameplay seems more optimised for console.

Everything shown on GDC was from PC version. Trailer looked way sharper than official "directfeed" shots, on-stage gameplay was PC version, and so were all engine shorts.

how is this? anything better for someone who has played and completed every game in the series from NES to Rising?

Big Boss is injured and left comatose. With Zero’s dream threatened, Big Boss’s genes are used to birth three children, with EVA as their surrogate mother. Solid and Liquid Snake were twins – imperfect clones of their father – while the third brother, Solidus, was a flawless clone of Big Boss. Upon his recovery Big Boss learned of Zero’s betrayal and turned on the Patriots, leaving FOXHOUND and wandering around the Earth, later forming the Militaires sans Frontieres army during the events of Peace Walker.

does this explain the 3 beds?

It's a fucking piece of glass or debris lodged in his head, I don't know how the fuck people leaped right into the most ridiculous possibility of calling it a horn, an extremely rare condition someone can have.

Though something obviously happened while he was in the care of the docs. Which is different from the bit with him being first hauled in and we see no such foreign object lodged in the right side of his forehead.

But in the scenes wheres hes all bandaged up, you can see a protrusion under the bandages on the right side of his forehead where the supposed "horn" is at the end of the video, there are multiple sections where you can notice this during his bandaged state. Which also could potentially explain all of the hallucinations hes having during the escape sequence.

I have no idea what's going on. Who is V? Who is Miller Referring to? Damn you, Kojima!

V refers to the game, MGSV, and Miller is referring to the guy in bandages that has been watching over Big Boss for 9 years.

Then, why doesn't kojima announce it for pc? It's the same with platinum, if you have a build for pc, why don't you release it?
I'm not 100% on this & could obviously be wrong
but as far I know just because you build on PC doesn't mean it runs on it as a playable PC game, I'm sure they could but I read one dev interview in Edge years ago about a game for PS2 which wouldn't actually run on PC correctly & they had to use a debug unit to test it, although PC's are more then capable now
it's not PC game code, it is only compiled on PC that only runs in their dev software
so when you see them using a PC unless it's the PC version, it's not running on PC ( like a PC game)
in short, it's not PC code
it's PS3/360 code running on development software being compiled to run on consoles.

The hallucinations are probably illusions created by mini-Psycho-mantis. Another possible explanation would be a side-effect of the drug that the bandaged guy injected into him at the start.

Other common effects are blurred vision, visual disturbances (yellow-green halos and problems with color perception), confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, nightmares, agitation, and depression, as well as a higher acute sense of sensual activities.[8] Less frequent adverse effects (0.1%–1%) include: acute psychosis, delirium, amnesia, convulsions, shortened QRS complex, atrial or ventricular extrasystoles, paroxysmal atrial tachycardia with AV block, ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation, and heart block.[7]

Calling it now: Ground Zeroes is a downloadable standalone prologue releasing this holiday, Phantom Pain is a full retail release coming june 2014.

Technically two games, but part of the same story. So Kojima and Konami are both right.

I see this being the most likely scenario. Though I hope it's like Gran Turismo Prologues and has disk release too. GZ could be the 'pilot disk' for MGSV, since Kojima did talk about wanting to do those.

I haven't played Peace Walker yet. Should i do it? Important note: i hated the fanservice and the embarrassing situations in MGS4.

Well, Peace Walker leads up directly to the events of the first Ground Zeroes trailer that had story in it. It's also mostly gameplay with far less cutscenes than normal. It's got a lot of these tapes you can collect for more background on events of MGS3 and such too.

It depends what you mean by fanservice, it has some silly shit here and there, but they are mostly in 'optional' missions.

It's a great game. Better than 4 me think. I consider 3 is the best, and peace walker a close second.

Agreed with this 100%.

Especially if you can play the game in co-op, it is an unforgettable experience.

the Story is worth it, if you didn't like MGS4 you may like PW , I personally wished it was more like MGS4, but I'm a MGS2 guy myself

Hopefully. I'd pay 15 for GZ at most, not sure if I'd want to spend $60 on 2 MGS games in a short time period.

It would depend for me, if GZ was like 10 hours, I could settle on $30, especially if it's another like half year or more until TPP. $60 for both is overkill. If GZ is like a 5 hour intro though, $15 seems right.

Just looking at the Gamesradar MGS timeline that was linked earlier and its got me wondering if we're looking at things in the wrong order. According to that BB was in a coma before Peace Walker, so the link can't be Mother Base being taken down leading to the the hospital and coma. Of course, I could be all wrong on this as it was written in 2010 so could have been retconned since, I've not finished PW yet and its not an official timeline, but I think I'm going to have a look at the MGS encyclopaedia on the PS3 when I get home tonight.

Well the coma in the MGSV trailer was a 9 year coma, the one mentioned in the timeline is only a couple years, and he is already awake by Peace Walker.

I think comatose in that case does not quite mean like in a coma, but using it like unconscious. Did not play portal ops though.

Yeah, I'm looking now myself and the dates don't add up. Just find it weird since the '72 coma was the one that focused on the LET project, which from the "Two Phantoms" etc I was guessing this game was going to have something about. Of course, being told its 9 years, and it ACTUALLY being maybe a year is the sort of mindfuckery Kojima is liable to pull.

Edit: Nope, must be a second coma. BB didn't meet Miller until after the LET coma. GODDAMMIT KOJIMA!

why are you guys using the old timelinse established by mg1,2 and mgs? guys c'mon it's well established that kojima doesn't give a shit about canon and he's just rewriting the entire big boss saga as he goes along.

Someone with some sense, finally.

I don't care how much GZ costs, I'll pay it. MGS gets that special treatment from me.

Theres also this to factor in. Its like the wildcard, where the wildcard is someone fucking with time and space.

Haha, you guys are funny. Very cool.

Just really funny and cool guys.
Excellent.
What a thing you noticed, guys: so smart.

Relax. Kojima said it on purpose because he knows how much we love that sentence.

I don't get this line of thinking. You compare it to the new Battlefield 4 trailer and it clearly looks a generation behind. The trailer is running on PC but all assets are clearly done for the PS360 in mind. They even render their screenshots at 720p without bullshot AA to drive the point home. :P

I think it just shows how good KojiPro's artists are. As a whole package it can really give you the idea that it's next-gen. But if you start breaking down the assets it becomes obvious that it's current gen

That's definitely not a next-gen game. Those models just aren't detailed enough to be up there with inFamous, Battlefield, Killzone etc. nor are the fire effects. I think just like past MGS games it's more about the full package than individual assets. Even going back to MGS2, a game that was often viewed as one of the best (if not the best) looking games around, it didn't really outdo other games on an individual bases. The models and textures weren't on Silent Hill 2's level. And the effects weren't the best either. But there wasn't anything that compared to it as full package running at 60fps.

I've only played MGS and MGS2, but why are people talking about Snake being in MGSV when it seems focused on Big Boss? How does Hayter factor in this? Please try not to spoil MGS3 and MGS4 if possible... Thanks.

Yeah after seeing the direct feed stuff, i've changed my position and it looks very possible on current gen, given the atrocious IQ.
Still, props to the team, because the lighting is just fantastic.

So the 3 people in the hospital are Big Boss, Kaz, and Solid Snake?

I don't really know much about the MGS series but this trailer and the buildup has been a hell of a ride

Because Kojima can't make up his fucking mind and keeps changing voice actors when he feels like it.

If he's hallucinating shit? Sure, I think he could envision how his clone would look like.

Yep.

I don't think anyone is giving the FOX engine enough credit here. The lighting and texture work due to it helps in making it rival even next-gen engines.

Here's one thing, I'm more in awe of graphics from this game than Crysis 3 itself. I know that Crysis 3 is fucking beautiful but there's just something about the total package of this game that elevates it to the stratosphere.

I don't get peoples' complaints, either. Hayter didn't even voice Big Boss in MGS4. Isn't it enough that he got to be Old Snake?

But he voiced Big Boss in MGS 3. That's why people are "confused". Either you go with one VA or you don't, don't change shit up whenever you feel like it.
You can't voice a character in MGS 3 and then not voice it in MGS 4 just because the character is older. It makes no fucking sense. If that's a reason to change voice actors, Hayter shouldn't be voicing Snake in 4 either.

Totally agreed. The motion blur applied to everything also really helps it too and you can't even see that in screens. I'm still hoping for a next gen version but it's pretty impressive what they've done with the current iteration of Fox on current gen. A game built from the ground up on this engine for next gen will look insane.

But he voiced Big Boss in MGS 3. That's why people are "confused". Either you go with one VA or you don't, don't change shit up whenever you feel like it.

Problem is his voice acting has gone down the drain after MGS1. His delivery has been monotonous in the last few games.

He was GREAT in MGS1, but I agree with others that his other works weren't up to par.

maybe he is in it and will voice solid this time and theyre just saying he is not so there are no spoilers? if you have big boss in the trailers and it is not his voice then you know that solid is in the game automatically if you announce that he is in it as a voice actor. no?

Maybe Kojima is actually giving a shit about the English voices this time around?

I'm just arguing, I don't give a shit about who voices what, really. I feel the same way about Hayter's VA. Haven't cared for it since MGS.

Weird time to start then, he should have started in MGS 2. It actually mattered for story purposes back then, seeing as Raiden isn't supposed to sound completely different from Snake.
