GDC: Halo 4 Post Mortem starts right now.

PowerPoint presentation, first slide, massive font:

- Mistakes!

Edit: Holy shit, Mario's son worked on the game?

Looking forward to hearing if chasing that Call of Duty money was worth losing me (and I imagine plenty of others), a Halo fan from day zero (I was looking forward to it when it was still a Mac exclusive).

Too hyper, too random, too cluttered, too flaky, too fill-bars-to-fill-bars-y... too bad. H4 makes Reach look good. That's sad.

Despite the tone, I am genuinely interested to see if they think they made the right decisions, because for my gaming tastes they've been slipping since Halo 3 (despite the awesomeness that is ODST, of course) and never come close to recapturing Halo 2 MP.

One of the best console graphics of the gen and an 87 on metacritic......yes terrible.

Compared to previous Halo Games? Absolutely.

Halo: CE: 97
Halo 2: 95
Halo 3: 94
Halo ODST: 83
Halo Reach: 91

Yes because graphics make the game good!

Corrinne Yu did an absolutly fantastic job on the engine but the MP is awful and player base keeps on dropping and the single player cut out key story points and put them into terminals which you had to go on waypoint to see....oh did I mention its not with the Halo CEA terminals either? Yeah you have go through so much shit just to see some key plot points that should have just been in the loading screens or something.

Damn, the hate is strong already here.

Halo 4 was excellent :)

Just not the story though. The previous Halos focussed on religious zealots and the danger the present. That has its real world counter part.

The whole way the story dealt with forerunners could have been done a lot better.

The game isn't terrible, it's just not what you wanted. Stop it.

I liked the game but ultimately it didn't stick with me for some reason. I don't know, I need to replay it some day and think about it more.

Actually I liked the SP, just VERY annoyed at the key parts being cut out to be placed into terminals, its something EVERYONE should have seen. A lot of people are still confused as to who the Didact is.

As for MP, I love Throwdown but in the other game modes ordnance and perks kind of killed it quickly for me.

I wonder if they'll acknowledge and address the clear drop off in MP numbers, and people leaving the game.

I dislike this "it's just not for you" rebuttal that's becoming increasingly common.

Perhaps that is because it is a valid argument, not everything will be catered to your specific tastes, doesn't mean it is bad.

The game was better than Reach on all fronts, but I'd like more pen campaign environments and MP more like the original trilogy.

Far from terrible, but unfortunately, even further from memorable. A serviceable game, at best.

Yeah, I agree with this.

Also, even for someone who has kept up pretty well with the lore, Halo 4's story was a complete mess. Without the Terminals, some of the characters are barely explained at all.

Hopefully we have much more open levels in the next Halo like the previous games, better AI, and that the multiplayer is FULLY done in-house.

It was their first go and there was quite a bit of outsourcing so a lot of it's issues might be understandable. I just hope they acknowledge their mistakes and that they take their time with Halo 5.

Do they address the bug that made me and Horse Armour (and many others) lose all our campaign progress? Or is it more of a 'let's pat ourselves on the back for being so awesome' kind of thing?

This hell they should have released Silentium 2 months before halo 4 release if you ask me.

Being better than Reach is not too much of an accomplishment. They just added way too much clutter with personal loadouts and ordnance drops. The DMR ruined BTB maps, PP and Plasma grenades ruined vehicle combat and boltshot as a starting weapons was just stupid.

Such a weird game.

It wastes so much potential with the campaign. They built a great world and had an interesting premise to work with, only to put it into a really standard and by-the-book campaign.

Then the MP hardly even feels like Halo anymore with all the CoD inspired changes. Map count was also lacking.

I actually liked the campaign a fair amount, aside from some story grievances.

The multiplayer is my least favorite in the series though.

So it's a bad game? Could have fooled me. Seems more along the lines of it isn't up to Bungie standards, and the 343 changes were a bit much for some Halo fans. Not the game is "terrible" in any kind of game review sense.

But sure, people can rag on me for thinking the game isn't a broken piece of shit if they want. I'm just not over dramatic. It's not everything I wanted, but it's far from a terrible game. Aliens Colonial Marines is a terrible game.

Apparently it's come to the fact that anyone that likes or defends Halo 4 is a rabid fanboy and the folks who hate on it are obviously right. That's dumb.

Considering that plasma grenades no longer kill ghosts or do anything really to warthogs, I don't see this point at all. I agree with some of your other points, but they dont "ruin" the game for me. They are minor things I wish would be different, but I still play the game and have fun.

I don't know if these guys should be talking that much about their story telling, Halo 4 had a terribly delivered storyline and pretty poor character development, outside of Cortana I guess.

I really liked HALO 4 and I still play it. Maybe the reason is that I've never really liked the other ones but, for me it was the best in the series.

I played about 3000 matches in every Halo prior to 4.

With Halo 4 I played only 500 or so and called it a day because of so many frustrations.

The multiplayer just isn't up to snuff.

Yeah when everyone spawns with them it does A LOT to warthogs or really anything. Tanks spawns? Everyone get PP's and Plasma Grenades! *tank blows up 4 seconds out of spawn*

Im also not saying the game isn't fun, it just has so much more potential and there is too much clutter. I can play it and like it for a bit but I can't really play it for too long before all this stuff starts to get to me.
