Final Round 16: The Mustache Curls Back | Fighting Game Tournament | Mar 29-31

[...]

We all know the real problem is Hidden Missiles. You have to pick Shuma to come close to a counter to it... which explains why Angelic was the first person in god knows how long to 3-0 ChrisG.
someone on stream said he actually lost to chaotic flame xfc chaotic flame when doom got called out iirc, not to shuma

i would love for shuma to be able to do that to morridoom though

I think he was talking about Shuma's Mystic Ray assist, which sweeps the screen and will destroy the hidden missles (regardless of their position).

I was excited to hear that Angelic won, but now that I'm thinking about it, he has a pretty solid team to fight Morridoom

He has:
  • Wolverine for opening gambits and pressure for a strong early start
  • Dormammu to give Morrigan some trouble and has Chaotic Flame to murder assists
  • Shuma for his great assist, usable hyper combos, and has relatively unexplored gimmicks (most people are still unfamiliar with him)

It's a team with many viable chances to X-Factor when its best for you, not just to save yourself from getting ocv'd (or whatever).

When fighting Chris G, how important is it to force him to burn X-Factor earlier than Vergil?
How important is it to chip out/kill Morrigan before she can land into her Shadow Servant hyper -> DHC?

Unrelated: Is Fanatiq a scumbag for going past the commentary station when he clearly had many other options to leave the venue? I wasn't looking for a smirk, but it seemed that he flashed his t-shirt logo intentionally toward the camera.

Too bad nobody had an answer to ChrisG. Moonz showed the most entertaining play. SFxT stole the hype like KOF13 stole the hype last year at Evo's, FR16 proved that the game is now viable as a watchable game. Respect to Capcom.

EZ cash money yo. Like CJ said during one of his streams, he's a walking, talking advertisement. I didn't see that but I wouldn't put it behind him to do.

Yeah, I was surprised out how great SFxT was this morning. It was kind of hindered by the fact that it was the first game, practically no one was there at the venue and it was early as shit west coast time. I don't think it ever cracked 8-9k viewers.

Where there's CORN

There's hype

SFxT ended up being hype but at the same time if Infiltration had won people would've forgotten about the finals. It's situations and players that create hype mostly... or anti-hype. Same if Infiltration/ChrisG had lost in top 8 or at least challenged.

I am still a bit curious about that game's meta and how it shapes up in the future.

Aww, no salty suite streams? I need dat
Nothing on my end tonight. I'm going to keep my setup running for 5 hours or so but we no longer have a 4G card to stream with. If anyone notable stops by I'll save some matches for Youtube later.

Congrats man, you really held it down there.

Thanks putting in work. Did you end up playing Clock?

Yeah, I saw those sets. I didn't see Flocker vs. F. Champ, Moons vs Chris G, Chris G vs (I presume) F. Champ and Chris G vs Flocker.
Champ vs Flocker was alright. Chris vs Champ only worth watching for FChamp's expressions. The rest is ChrisG being ChrisG, he barely even used his other two characters.

Thanks.

I'll probably watch F. Champ vs Chris G for Champ salt, and catch the other matches if/when I can.

What about SF4 Top 8? Mostly the tail end like Winner's Finals, Loser's Finals, Grand Finals, and the Xian vs Infiltration match. Those worth catching?

I missed some particular things.

I'm sure it's been discussed somewhere in this giant thread, but how exactly did the Fanatiq/Sp00ky situation go down? I heard he was trying to pump AGE and Sp00ky couldn't take it anymore. That's about all I know, though. I'm now trying to remember if I saw AGE before ChrisG's name on stream.

Also, which match was the Kubota escape in, again? I'll be sure to catch the replay when Sp00ky uploads it.

Man I was watching that match live, neither players were playing seriously. That match should not be indicative of anything. Plenty of players have gotten hit on ChrisG's Morrigan with ill equipped teams but they either got lucky or ChrisG messed up or they did some yolo tactic like random energy javelin into Speeding Tackle.

Yeah.. sure Fanatiq is capable of beating Chris, but no determination can be made from their match yesterday. They both were openly shitting on the tournament as much as they could.

Wooooow. So did they stage that match to be salty? Did they not see why Spooky would be upset about him bumping his sponsor on stream commentary when they didn't sponsor the tournament? That's some kindergarten shit.

Were they shitting on the tournament because of Spooky or more? Was ChrisG still that mad about having to go get his badge and being treated like everyone else and not a celebrity?

Which match was Kubota escape? Champ vs. who?

Oh and those new AGE headsets do look nice. Mission accomplished Fanatiq you asshole @_@

NY regulars who play against Chris all the time came close to beating him (without having to counterpick)- they just aren't quite there yet. Rayray was damn close. West coast needs a legit Moridoom or two to light a fire under their asses.

There are a few Morridooms, I've seen a few at TRB, but yeah, none of them are anywhere close to Chris G's level, not in the slightest.
