Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

Remember this leak at comic con last year? Probably the first real MGS5 looking thing we seen.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=482692

I guess it was real.

Was diamond dogs a thing before this leak?

It was a badass album.

I hope to god it's shrapnel.

Still think it is going to be some gameplay inside his head while in the coma, with him dwelling on what has happened to him and turning completely evil because of it. In shot of him on the bike with the horn he looks way younger and then it cuts to older BB boss as if he is remembering that moment.

Yeah, I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Hideo Kojima (on Twitter) said:
At the beginning of "MGS5" trailer, there's a doctor giving ECM to Snake. In fact this character was modeled by one of our staff, the character modeling artist, Mr. MIKE FUDGE. We did 3D captured of him w/i our studio and he polished himself.

It's Ishmael! This would be consistent with what he said at the start of the game-play footage "The woman? I- we gave her a life. She took the short way down."

Note: He would be 9 years older as Ishmael.

I have to admit guys I really really enjoyed that trailer. I also admit I've never ever played a MGS game ever. They just didn't appeal to me but that really grabbed me.

That could be news for you but not everyone has english as his native language.

SHOCKING i know...

It's news to me that Hideo writes in his English Twitter, yes. It's also not shocking that English is not everyone's native language, since it isn't mine.
Hideo Defense Force in full effect today.

Ahah yeah I saw that earlier, the Japanese actor for Miller (Sugita) re-tweeted it. Caption was "I'm playing (as in pretending to) MGS5 lol"

METAL GEAR V

By

David Hayter

So,

Here’s a recap of events:

I have been up in Toronto, for the past eight months, directing my first film, (WOLVES -- 2013, TF1/COPPERHEART). On the December break, I came home to Los Angeles for the holidays. I heard then, that recording sessions for MG:V were being put together.

But I didn’t hear anything about whether I’d be needed or not.

So, I got in touch with someone involved in the production. We got together for lunch, and he told me that they "wouldn’t be needing me" on this game. No reason, or explanation was given beyond that.

And that was it.

I drove home through Laurel Canyon, bummed, and thinking about Snake.

To be clear, I love being a part of the world of Metal Gear. I admire its technological innovations, the gameplay, the political message of it all. But primarily, I love the fans of these games. Two grown men burst into tears upon meeting me at the Vancouver Fan Expo last year.

Now that... Is a rare and excellent role. You know you’re making an impact.

And I love doing it.

In 1998, I tried to do come up with a voice which epitomized the kind of worn, put-upon, genetically-engineered clone-soldier that I saw Snake to be. Over time, as the games became more stunning and visually sophisticated, I tried to transition that initial voice into the increasingly real environments in which Snake found himself. My level of success is up to you, but any perceived deficiencies were not for lack of hard work. I have dedicated a huge amount of time and effort into creating a compelling character, capable of expressing the myriad emotional, physical and psychological hurdles that Snake has to face.

Anyway, now it’s been fifteen years, nine games, and an enormous blast to undertake.

If it were my choice, I would do this role forever. To hear anyone else’s voice coming from Snake’s battered throat, makes me a little ill, to be honest.

But the truth is -- it’s not my choice. Any and all casting decisions are the sole purview of Hideo Kojima, and Konami itself. And that’s fair.

And I’ll get by. I am not lacking for employment on any level.

But I didn’t want anybody to think that I was intentionally abandoning them.

And know that I will miss this job, and this character, very much.

My best wishes to you all,

David Hayter

We know this, David. You're a cool guy, it's just that you've been doing a bad impersonation of the first time you played Snake since 1998.

My main issue is consistency, you can't have Hayter play Big Boss in every MG game except 4 and then change voice actors for MGS V just because you felt like it. Either give Big Boss and Snake different voices from the start or don't change it after 4 games.

I think he's been doing a good job actually.

How is it consistent to change the voice of Big Boss from Peace Walker? GZ is set probably a couple months after the events of Peace Walker. If anything the voice should change in TPP.

I think if Kojima is set on making an MG1/2 remake, he has to think about a different actor to play Big Boss now. He painted himself into a corner by continuing to make Big Boss games.

The denial in this thread is a bit sad...

Why does Kojima have to rustle our jimmies like this? >:T

I can definitely see this happening. The only way for him to stop himself from making any more MGS games is to bring the whole thing full circle, back to where he began, back to zero, etc, etc...

So, we'll see.

EDIT:

After he's done he should definitely go back and fix that clusterfuck that is 4's ending. That is, after all, the true ending of the Snakes' saga.

The whole ordeal really lowers my opinion of Kojima. He used to be infallible to me, can't believe he's pulling this shit on both Hayter and the fans. It hurts even more considering that MGSV looks fucking kickass, why'd he have to ruin a perfect thing?!

So Diamond Dogs is related to David Bowie?

Fun fact you guys: the original ending song of Snake Eater was Space Odyssey. Look it up.

He really isn't.

He stated that regarding the plot of Metal Gear 1 and 2, “a lot of things in the plot don’t make sense anymore,” and felt that to properly reintroduce them in the modern age, he’d have to “rewrite it, and I don’t feel like doing that

When is that interview from? Just curious.

I can't imagine Konami will stop making MGS games if MGS5 sells well (which it has a shot at), if Kojima doesn't do it, maybe someone else will (lol).

I've wanted Shinta Nojiri to make MGS games ever since MGS 3, Kojima does not agree with me. Shinta made one of the best MG games ever with Ghost Babel.

He really isn't.

What Kojima says and what Kojima does are two very different things. If he always did what he said, we wouldnt even be having this conversation right now because he would have stopped making Metal Gear games 10 years ago.

I like you.
Ghost Babel was a great game.

Regarding the Hayter thing, I think a lot of us are reaching for excuses and reasons to stick him in the game. I really think hes gone and it sucks but I guess thats just the way it is.
I can definitely see why people think this is an elaborate hoax, though. And to be honest, I hope it is. I will flip my shit if I hear his voice in MGS5.

Does anyone have a valid reason to believe that guy with the red hair is not Psycho Mantis?

Every time I read someone suggest something else I can't understand why there is any valid possibility. Why wouldn't Kojima bring back the most famous Boss of the series?

There are so many similarities. His mannerisms are identical and the motif of him appearing at the end of a hall way in front of an elevator is an exact replica of MGS1.

Floating kid with a gasmask riding a flaming unicorn. It has to be Mantis! :p

To be honest, I havent even given any thought to it being someone else. Ever since TPP trailer, Im convinced its Mantis. The only thing missing is Mantis Hymn.

That shot where it cuts to him takes place in the GZ trailer, which is before he gets in the coma. Also, he isn't older, he is actually younger, by 9 years. Kojima has said that his hair isn't old and grey in this image. He said that it is the lighting that makes his hair look like this.

Take a look at the images from this scene that are done in his daylight version. His hair is dark and he does not look as old.

Seems nonsensical to put any weight behind the timelines before playing the game as far as I'm concerned, but it's not just his hair, his face looks less wrinkled and worn, it looks thinner, he looks younger all around. He also has a horn coming out of his head, a mechanical hand, it's just pure kojima craziness. If not a dream, then I guess it must be nanomachines.

If there ever is an MGS movie, the guys who did the Crank movies should be the ones to do it. I feel like they're the only ones who can match the batshit crazy of Kojima. I want it so bad. Right now.
