XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) News, Announcements, Reviews, and Impressions Thread

Terraria seems to be doing well. Approaching 85k after just three days. It is no Minecraft numbers, but considering how just about every recent XBLA game bombed, it seems quite solid. I would be curious to see PSN leader board numbers if anyone has them.

Yeah, that seems to be 30 to 40 times what the recent (less than two months) releases have sold.

Wow that is really good.

I tried the demo and really hated the controls. The awkward dual-control mode (press RS to toggle between mouse cursor and radial cursor). How horrible house-building felt, and how imprecise the instructions of the tutorial were about how to build a house. When I watched a Youtube video later it made much more sense, but in the game it was very confusing. A real jumble of UI elements and controls. And then I adventured off to the right a little bit and dug down a bit and fell into an endless ocean where I apparently couldn't swim and it got dark and I very, very slowly drowned.

It was delisted. I don't think sega ever said officially why it was removed.

Outrun Online Arcade was removed due to the car licensing with Ferrari expiring. Probably the same with Sega Rally.

Wow - that REALLY sucks for people who missed out on those games. Both are amazing and are still some of my most played XBLA games. They should re-release them without the licenses.

The controls work out well once you get used to them. I disliked the demo and controls during the demo and finished it the same way you did, sinking into an endless subterranean ocean. Bought it, love it. More fun to control than the PC version for me, now that I've gotten the hang of it.

They've both been on the store for years so I hope anyone interested and able to this point picked them up. I think as game delivery services move increasingly online, we will see fewer licenses of this kind in software. It just makes for too much headache for publishers down the road.

Did anyone still have either a Maw or Toy Soldiers code? I missed the promotion. :(
I sent you a PM with a code for each.

If anyone wants a Toy Soliders code I've got at least 15 more to give away so give me a PM. I have a couple of The Maw codes too. First come first served.

Does anyone still play Outrun? Haven't been able to find a game in a loooong time.

Terraria didn't even click with me on PC, so I have no idea if console would go any better...that said, it takes a while for games like that to sink in

Some impressions of games I got on that big sale a while back:

Karateka - more like a music rhythm game than fighting game! I like the art style personally...and I enjoy a simple game, so I think I will enjoy playing through it, someone who is expecting a complicated game would probably be shocked

Fighting Vipers - wow I forgot how much of a wrestling game this one feels like to play, very fun

Jo Jos Bizarre HD - OMG this game is awesome, I can't believe I never played it before...ok, 2D Capcom fans mostly apply, especially maybe Darkstalkers fans

Nights: The music and kids singing just at the title screen nearly can bring me to my knees it is that nostalgic...this game is one of those games that will go over most kids heads who try it out on XBLA. I love the feeling of just flying around and messing around without worrying too much about score, some people obsess over the details of the game but it is just fun kind of like doing wheeee!!! loops in Sonic versus calculated speed runs

VF5:FS I have on PS3 too but I wanted to get 360 ver since I only have an arcade stick on 360...and uhhh...I went to play a ranked match and couldn't find anyone playing...then someone finally showed up after 10 minutes and totally owned me. Yeah, welcome to the world of fighting games as a scrub.

Shout outs to you and lordjidane for the hook up!

Can't believe I missed that promotion. Wasp I sent you a PM.

The April rewards promotion seems pretty good. I was going to pick up some of those games anyway now I'll get one more to get 800msp back. Not a bad deal at all.

"Guys, our last sale did some pretty amazing numbers, it's clear to us now that gamers want in a sale is newer, better games at cheaper prices."

"GIVE THEM SOMETHING DIFFERENT."

I was expecting something cooler from a one day sale, but maybe its meant to be bad... April Fools after all.
There's still hope for the MS published sale, right?

Edit: it would be awesome if that list was an April Fools joke and the real sale was something else.

Let me know if there is a precise time and date you would like the totals. I would be happy to help. Up over 105K now. It could be even doing better. For some reason I am not on the leaderboard, and I have put a good 4 hours into it. Not sure what that is about. I am US Central time so about 4 am here is when games tend to go up for the week.

I only played the Steam version for a few minutes, but the console controls work great once you get used to them. Now I know that there are elements of the later game like hookshots and such but simply mining, placing objects, and inventory management is done extremely well. The manual controls with the right stick specifically put many AAA games to shame when it comes to precisely placing objects. I am super impressed.

It's hard for me to figure out because the demo just locks out leaderboards entirely. This is kind of the problem of not having a Gamasutra pay scheme where I can request a code :)

What's it based on? It could also mean something similar to Minecraft's bloated leaderboards because of the local multiplayer aspect.

Similar to Minecraft, but it is not divided by difficulty levels. So there is the same number of entries whether it be minerals mined or length travelled. Strangely I have been playing for several hours now, and my name still has not uploaded to the Leaderboard.

Because Doritos Pope only plays on Xbox 360.

Seriously though this will be the 4th game made in conjunction with Doritos. Dash of Destruction, Harms Way and the original Crash Course being the others.

why the hell is there a dorito game?

Doritos Crash Course is a pretty good game. I recommend you try it if you like 2-d platformers. Getting the full gamerscore is pretty challenging. Just don't download the DLC until you get the original 200/200, if you care about achievements. The DLC glitches the original 200 gamerscore if you haven't already unlocked it.
