Msi claw 8ai+ and Lenovo go 2
They don't have Xbox branding though, so it's impossible for them to be better.

Because there are already a million different devices that can do that. They even licensed the Backbone controllers to do exactly that on cell phones.I don't understand why Microsoft didn't go with the Sony route by releasing a PS Portal-like device with Xbox controller grip which would allow you to do remote play + cloud access to Game Pass games, since now you don't even need a subscription to access your owned games through the cloud, for $200

I'm sure people are rushing to take advice from him/her/they/that.
They have a million devices that does exactly the same thing as the Rog Ally X, just to name one: the Rog Ally, and yet they released one anyway.Because there are already a million different devices that can do that. They even licensed the Backbone controllers to do exactly that on cell phones.
Sure, there's a bunch of portable PCs. And Microsoft teamed up with ASUS to try and refine it. If it's a miss, no big deal, ASUS pretty much takes the hit. Plus it's being used to display Microsoft's attempt for future gaming on portable PCs outside of their branded ones. They have a million devices that does exactly the same thing as the Rog Ally X, just to name one: the Rog Ally, and yet they released one anyway.
And using your smartphone for gaming isn't the same experience. That's something Microsoft never understood.
You should try it then, it's night and day. I tried both, the Portal provides a way better gaming experience than the backbone. Not sure what the difference of a dedicated streaming device vs a cell phone with dedicated controls for streaming would be other than a slightly bigger screen. The Backbone controller is expensive at $110. A dedicated device would be about $200. That $90 savings is because you likely already have a phone that does a million other things. The dedicated device will likely have a larger screen that is lower quality and can't do anything else. Doesn't seem ideal to me.
I'll default to your experience on that one. I only stream when traveling. You should try it then, it's night and day. I tried both, the Portal provides a way better gaming experience than the backbone.
Guy in the back cracks me up.
I'd pick the MSI 8 AI+ and Lenovo Legion Go S (Z1E) over this and not think twice, primarily due to the superior screens. If you want top of the line performance then GPD 5 is the answer. Best value for the price? MSI. Best screen. Lenovo Legion Go 2. Honestly, I'd probably opt for the Rog Ally X over the "xbox" branded version. But if someone wants the latest, greatest from Asus then Xbox Ally X is the one.
8 AI+ has an NPU similar to the Xbox Ally X, but I think the Z2X AI still edges it out in overall performance.Msi claw 8ai+ and Lenovo go 2

Legion Go 2 only has the Z2X, not the Z2X AI with the NPU.
The GPD Win 5 has no internal battery. I don't count that as a viable handheld.
Gotta wait and see if AutoSR makes a difference in performance. But MSI 8 AI+ and Xbox Ally X are currently the only two mainstream handhelds with an NPU needed for AutoSR.

Will Microsoft even allow Auto SR on the MSI Claw? Is it as simple as if it works on the ROG Ally then it will work on the Claw, or would Microsoft have to do extra work? They are partnered with ASUS and stand to gain from the Xbox branded device having exclusive features from them.
It is a Windows feature. It is already enabled for some Snapdragon devices. When it is enabled for other Windows devices I would expect it to be available with any that have dedicated NPU hardware.
The Claw A.I released all the way back in January. It should have been had Auto SR available to it if Microsoft really wanted. Why didn't they? Do you think that was just an oversight or intentional?
Rog Xbox Ally X doesn't even have auto sr yet. Microsoft said it would be the "first" handheld to have it which implies others will as well. Even then, since it is a Windows feature, I bet it will take a simple hack to enable it on everything else just like it has been with FSE
Just to be clear, after thinking about it, I remember the Intel chip being kinda underbaked on the initial Claw (Intel's GPU drivers are kinda bad at supporting past APIs iirc). In Windows? Haven't heard that. Good to know though

Not sure if they fixed it yet with the AI 8+ or the new A8 (which has a Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, without the AI though).
