Skullgirls DLC Character vote | The Campaign united us, The Voting will destroy us

Ileum/Minette/Panzerfaust/Samson.

Going to stick by Ileum to the bitter end... which is probably this round since I don't see her going to Round 2. Sigh.

Only two other people in this thread voting for Andy : (

Voted:
D. Violet, Andy, Feng, and Venus.

There were a bunch of follow-up questions about my Skullgirls playing habits and... I've never played the game. So I just made stuff up. Or rather I answered what I guess my habits will be like once I get the game.

Update from the Mane6 folks

Seems like now that they've got the engine, they're upgrading their status from "Fan Game creator" to "Indie game creator" and are working to create a professional original product.

A Mane6 Kickstarter is now on the horizon.

@Ravidarth

The Giantbomb artilce had sparked some great debates on the costs of fighting games on SRK and there was one comment I was really curious about.

3d SF, sure. 3d KOF, sure. But 3D SG, not so much. Maybe parasoul would be cheaper because everything about her remains the same, but how would you even begin to deal with all the rubber band that goes on with Samson, double, etc. if you were using 3d?

I understand your point, but SG is probably the worst game you could pick to try and make it.

I'll agree. But if the knew they were going 3D it probably wouldn't be designed the same way it is now. Squash and stretch in the characters is the advantage of 2D, and the reason why they're willing to suck up the cost to do it this way.

I strongly suspect considering the aesthetic you were going for 3D simply was never an option. Is my suspicion correct?

In order of priority:

Minette
Isaac
Umbrella
Hubrecht

Minette, Isaac, and Hubrecht were all both Appearance and Gameplay based choices, Umbrella is a Story choice.

Pretty much.

It's not just the squash-and-stretch stuff, but also the crazy Darkstalkers-esque morphing our characters do. Modeling and rigging all of that would be really time-consuming and expensive, to do it at any level of quality.

Yeah. I got mine. I had a friend make two donations ($30 and $106) and he didn't receive one though :|

PM me the e-mail address he used and I'll check it out.

So if you play Scythana 1v1 I assume they would just put a default body on the floor right? That or like a Gigan knife as homage to Cody.

Wow, so if they go with Scythana, are Lab Zero going to draw unique unconscious animations of every other character that Scythana will potentially be throwing around?

I know who just rose up in my list.

Maybe she has to pick a 2nd character. I'd like a super where you KO your own teammate but the corpse becomes extra powerful.

What did I just type? lol

I would be more interested if they let fans design their own character, and we vote on our favorites. Sick of their ugly as mutant, monster designs..

Trust me dude, we understood your opinion on the characters the first time. If you want your run of the mill overly sexualized female character design, feel free to play every other game on the market that isnt made by Bethesda.

I was going to say something like this when I read his post, but I decided not to. Yeah... we don't need anymore of that fan nonsense. Juju already shook up a lot of people on Skullheart as it is.

We just want things to go smooth as possible and backseat fan characters are a gigantic pothole in the making.

LOL @ Bethesda reference. Shouldn't we also count Netherrealm? They love giving a decent number of their women man jaws.

I really don't see why that's needed - I expect her moves should be decent enough by default, especially with her reach. At least I hope so.
Her specific ability just encourages her opponents to knock her out before her hypothetical teammate, and playing it safe not to lose a character while she's around so as to not give her "ammo". Or keeping a Valentine and some power bar levels around to revive any fallen teammates if you're facing off against her so she can't weaponize them.

If she ends up having a body at her disposal for 1-on-1 matches, at least in story mode it should belong to her previous opponent (ex: reach the boss battle against Marie, smack her around with Double's fallen body - then wipe your hands, ew!). Otherwise, it could be a random Egret (she's escaping from a Canopy kingdom prison, right?). Or Isaac, since he left her to rot in jail - it could be one of those rare things, like the doodled cat in Cerebella's Lock & Load, or Peacock's steamroller.

But I really would prefer if she could hold her own even without her gimmick - the stress shouldn't be on who's playing her dreading a lack of options, it should be on her opponent trying to avoid giving her extra options by managing his own characters in small ways throughout a match (ex: swap characters often, save the supers for Scythana when she's on screen, use snapbacks on her teammates, etc...) - at least I think that would make things more fun for both players.

Isaac
Panzerfaust
Eliza
Aeon

Beowulf almost made the cut, but I decided to vote for two males and two females. Aeon beat him out because I thought it would be awesome to have two time-based characters.

Yeah, I always wondered how Ono thought he would be able to pull off a (presumably) 3D Darkstalkers. He mentioned early on that SF4 hinged on pulling off Dhalsim's limb stretching. That's nothing compared to Darkstalkers' elaborate shape-shifting for every character.

I've heard that Dhalsim was by far the hardest and most expensive character for them to make, too.

They could do Darkstalkers ala MvC3 where everything are just static poses in the different morph states, but that has its own challenges and problems, not to mention just not looking nearly as cool.
