Bungie and MS breakup, says GI; custody of manbabies yet to be decided

Next up.

Microsoft Office division to leave Microsoft, they are sick of making Office applications!

It's ok though, to say thanks for all the hard work, Microsoft are letting them leave with all their technology, Microsoft are just keeping the IP.

I lost track on page 20, so I'll ask this: Have Luke or Stinkles replied yet?

The pleasurable preponderance of shotty snipers will be addressed shortly. It takes some time to implement.

In the interim, it is advisable to NOT veto non-shotty snipers games, otherwise you increase the statistical likelihood that shotty snipers will be the next game type.

This is what's going to happen IMO:

-Most of Bungie remains in tact and wholly-owned by Microsoft. They'll work on a new blockbuster for 360 "Original IP" and XBLA content. Halo 0 to be made afterwards.

-A new studio is formed as a 2nd party of sorts from some Bungie staff to create exclusive content for Microsoft platforms, but with more level of freedom. Will probably work on MMORPG and another project.

-Ensemble continues to work on Halo Wars with Bungie as co-producers

-Wingnut Interactive in New Zealand continues to work on Peter Jackson's Halo Project with Bungie as co-producers

-Halo Movie to get greenlit by end of '07 with Bungie and Peter Jackson overseeing quality

-Certain Affinity develops Halo 3 map pack with the help of Bungie

-Wideload announces new next-gen project for 360 and possibly PS3

So according to you, nothing happens and all remains well and dandy...

If that were the case, we would have an official answer to this mess the same moment Gamestop, IGN, 1up... started to take the phones.

I think it will be uglier than that, like a good portion of Bungie employees, especially funders and people who was there from the beginning, as I doubt they can stand Halo whatever anymore.

No(Wait, yes Stinkles has come to this thread, no he hasn't commented on the issue at hand). But there has been semi confirmation. And a mention of October 12th, the day that Sony was supposed to reveal their "big bang." Overall, it's been something more than nothing. Could be all for naught, could be the megaton of megatons.

Actually, I would like to hear your opinion on the reason given for delaying the announcement about MS selling Bungie. Apparently, it´s to do with the news not interfering with the first quarterly earnings call.

But the earnings call is pencilled in for the 25th of October. How delaying the announcement until the 6th would prevent the news from having an impact on the call is beyond me. There would still be 19 days between the news announcement and the earnings call. What do you make of it?

Who said they were selling? I would say people are over complicating and over simplifying this whole thing at the same time. If that makes sense at all. :lol

This is what Stinkles likes doing. He's a god damn pro. I admire your skills.

And give up all the free press they are getting? Waiting a bit is generating huge buzz.

I'm guessing it's more like...

People from Bungie have left to found their own studio, and they'll own the IP of anything they create, just like EPIC owns the Gears of War franchise.

This splinter group from Bungie has signed a publishing deal with Sony. They'll have all the finacial backing they need to ramp up quickly.

Microsoft can do nothing to stop an exodus of developers from Bungie to the new studio if they want to go. All MS can do is offer more money and hope they remain loyal.

Hmmm....you italicized pleasurable preponderance. So, with my deduction skills you're saying this is PP. peepee. As in MS are a bunch of? Do tell lol.

I don´t know what is worse, this, or the "we keep celebrating the phenomenal success of Halo 3".

I think this is the deal or something close to it.

This is seriously fucking with my Halo high right now.....but hey, Do what you have to do Bungie!

No idea. I'm just going to let this one play out. Something happens, cool. This wasn't a complete waste. Nothing happens, oh well. Back to you regular programming, or forum posts.

companies make announcements when they're good and ready, not when forums or the press dictates. Yes, Bungie can no longer stand seeing their creation which is now one of the biggest and most loved franchises of all-time see so much support from Microsoft, the company that they agreed to be sold to and the company that promotes their products like nobody's business. Yeah I'm sure that's the case.

And I'm sure Microsoft will just let Bungie, a company they own 100% and that's worth probably a billion or more, just walk away and become independent. Sure, some employees may want a change of scenery and go elsewhere, but hasn't that happened before with Bungie at least 4 or 5 times already (Wideload, Giant Bite, Certain Affinity, Double Aught, etc.) and yet most of those new teams have still created content for Microsoft platforms, no? And it's not often that an exodus of developers leave after such a successful launch of their product and leave such a stable and high-paying situation at Bungie.

Care to elaborate on those cryptic comments? And anyway, my question was really this: Is it possible that announcing something 19 days before an earnings call could make less of an impact than announcing it 25 days beforehand? Because I don´t think so and that alone makes me call BS on the whole ´inside information´ thing.

So it's a little more complex eh?

I'm predicting Bungie being 'independent' in an Insomniac sort of way. I'd bet that if enough of the key figures can threaten MS let them be semi-independent or else they'd just start their own company and MS would be left with much less...and MS doesn't want to call them on that bluff. Whatever happens MS still retains the Halo IP but I'd bet they also want to keep the talent together, better to have something that nothing. MS has expressed cocern before that keeping talent together is pretty hard when buying companies. And Bungie has also been relocated to their own location after they had complained about being assimilated into the 'borg' and it being counter-productive to their creative process.

Whatever happens, I hope the identitiy and people within Bungie stay the same, which is most important. The above scenario is pretty exciting though and would be quite a feat for Bungie.
That's my take as well. Personally, I think it's good for the creative well being of the industry for the Mighty Bungie to have the stones to hold themselves over a barrel.

I mean now that you've finished the fight, isn't your most anticipated game Bungie's next big project *regardless of the name on the front of the box*? Of course it is.

Where does the impending Square/Apple deal fit into this picture?

I wouldn't be surprised. MS has long wanted a MMO to whore for cash. They just can't get the right kind of luck on it lol.

Once again the ghost of Vanguard plagues this thread.

Can't see both being true. Look at Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet, et al. Sony isn't publishing it if they don't own it outright.

If they are leaving to develop for Sony to publish, Sony will own all that they create.

Scary.

Awesome.

Translation:

The importance of Halo will be addressed shortly. It takes some time to implement.

In the meantime, it's advisable to purchase non Halo games otherwise you increase the likelihood that Halo will be the next game type.

I am still not decided what I like best: Bishoptl's beat-you-up-with-a-baseball-bat ban style, Iapetus's witty-remarks ban style, or your pungent GOTCHA! ban style...

I feel like handing the Golden Apple to the fairest of the Goddesses (not implying you are wussies), whichever I proclaim winner might cheer (if he cares about it ;)) while the others perma-ban me (just to keep their ban-stick skills up to the task).

Resistance:Fall of Man is owned by Insomniac correct?

It gets cold at this time of year, north of the equator. Sometimes you have to wear two, or even three, layers of clothing to keep off the chill.
