Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

This is a bit of an exaggeration. Ever play Puzzle and Dragons? Don't let the wacky, very "Japan" presentation of the game fool you, that shit is hardcore.

There's a niche of iOS games that aren't just disposable gaming experiences, but reward investment in learning the games and their system design. They are few and far between compared to the huge mass of games like you mention above, but they do very much exist.

Sure but i can play old SE classics without $600 phone ;)

Tell me how they feel when you finally put em on :P! I was considering on picking a pack up but I wasn't sure if it was worth it nor could I find any opinions on em.
They feel like heaven. But my thumbs are a little sore from applying them. You can find these for what, less than $5? I'd say they're worth it, especially since I was finding my thumbs to be a bit sore after lengthy gaming sessions.

I've put like 90 hours into Dissidia 012 in the last 60 days or so since that big FF sale. It's games like that where the Vita really stands out-precise controls that only real controller can provide, with games that are designed first and foremost with people who play games as a hobby in mind, not people who play games as a throwaway distraction in mind.

I was just pointing out that there are some iOS games that do transcend the disposable copycat tendency of the platform.

From that same page:

"Muramasa Rebirth, the ultimate limited edition set ishere. This exclusive edition comes with a customdesigned PS Vita face cover, PS Vita Skin featuring artfrom the game, a PS Vita drawstring pouch and anMuramasa lithograph drawn by George Kamitani, creator of Muramasa Rebirth. "

damn, thx, i have reading problems lol.

Good to know, I am gonna see if I can pick up a pack. Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the replies from each of you. It helped a lot in making my decision. At the end of the day, the VITA is exciting with an awesome future of indie games and potential PS4 hits. PSN annual membership makes this even more appealing to anyone wanting a huge library of games.

Played 30 minutes of the Nintendo 3DS XL today with Super Mario 3D Land and for what i'm personally looking forward to in a portable experience, the 3DS answered ALL my questions.

Thanks again!

Wait...so...what was your decision? lol.

Really? You think so? I think the vita is quite excellent. Improved over the DS3 and even rivals Nintendo's.

what with you guys and reading my posts wrong today? when and where I said it's not good? I know that my english sucks but come on. :/

anyway,I think it's the best d-pad since the Saturn,however Sony/Mark.C don't think so apparently.

It's okay, Toto, I knew what you meant.

The PS4 d-pad still looks like it could be alright, at least. I do wish they kept the prototype d-pad, though. :/

ouch sorry, it was for April 16
Isn't it due 9th? It's due 10th in EU..

So, I've had a Vita for about 3 or 4 months now, but only got PS + yesterday...I know it's weird, but to be honest I feel kinda bad for having these games basically for free, I almost feel like it isn't fair :p

Anyone else feels a bit like this?

No, that was my mistake. I misread what you wrote.

@shelfcompact They're going away. Get 'em while you can! (I don't think the store has updated just yet, so they should still be there.)

If you feel bad, buy physical copies of those games to support companies such as Japan Studio and NIS so that they make/localize more Vita games. :D

Wait...so...what was your decision? lol.

I've been playing the 3DS XL for the past two hours and can't put it down. Mario land 3D is awesome and feels perfect. Sacrificed the potential of the Vita with more indie games and a bright future, for the Nintendo 3DS XL. So far, it's the best call with what I'm *personally* looking for. Nintendo stuff 'feels' right for my tastes, but that's no acknowledgement that the 3DS is a better system. I didn't want to feed into the system wars, so I didn't comment.

Vita is fantastic device deserving of far more sales. I believe we'll see that turn come PS4. Thanks again for all of your help, guys!

That's fine, 3DS has some great games, but it seemed your biggest complaint against the Vita was ergonomics, e.g. shape, button size, analog sticks, etc. Was that not a problem on the 3DS XL?

All these female temptation feels in P4G. Going to name my character Don Juan in NG+ and run wild with it.

Its not fair to my backlog. lol

Partly my fault, I really need to stop buying games. Damn sales.

Snake on PSM is a huge success, 150 copies sold and counting!

It's snake..... pretty sure the same game was free on my cell phone 12 years ago. I have absolutely zero interest in it. Not sure why anyone would consider Snake a business case for success. Unless your not being sarcastic.

Well, to be fair the 3ds has an excellent form factor. It's suited well for portability. The vita feels so...delicate.

Yup. Of all of the vehicles that could be used to demonstrate PSM's failings, Snake isn't one of them.

The Vita isn't delicate. :-/

really? all 3 current handhelds (3ds, 3ds xl, vita) have something horribly wrong with their form factor imo.

3ds: it's so fucking small. the dpad is at the bottom of the left side, which makes it impossible to comfortably use. this is a big deal for me because i play pokemon like crazy. it really is the most uncomfortable handheld i've ever used. everything just feels squished.

3ds xl: it's a great size with much better dpad access, but too much of the weight seems to rest on the top of the 3ds, putting stress on the wrong area of your hand. everything about it is an improvement from the original 3ds, but that weird top-heaviness makes it hard for me to play for extended periods of time unless i'm lying on my stomach on my bed.

vita: the back touchpad messes with how you hold the system in some games, since the back touchpad will activate some feature. it also feels like the system should extend further towards you when you hold it, like your palms should have more to grab onto. the L and R buttons are also a bit awkwardly placed.

honeslty, i find the original 3ds borderline unusable. the vita and 3ds xl are sort of on equal footing for me.

Clamshell is nice for portability, but not for comfort IMO.

The XL is also larger than the Vita when folded up. Totally beyond the range of what I'd consider portable.

My freakishly small hands have no problem with the OG 3DS actually. Just wish my shoulder buttons didn't break. Have to see how much Nintendo will charge for a repair.

It's so weird, because you'd think so, right?! The 3DS is heavier, true, but the way that system is designed, it still feels very comfortable. The weight is distributed in the base, with the second top screen being lighter and providing balance which makes it surprisingly comfortable to hold.

Also, I noticed immediately how much more i enjoyed using the sliding analogue stick. There seems to be a lot more room for it to move, and my thumb fit on it comfortably. I never found myself searching for it. That extends to the buttons, which was the biggest revelation.
Often, while playing MGS or Uncharted on the Vita, I'm looking for a button and my finger ends up tapping the second analogue. Then, I'd have to look down and re-orient. No matter how long I played those games, I still found myself having to do that every so often.

Almost immediately with 3DS, my fingers fit into the proper place where my fingers 'feel' they should go, and not once during my session with Mario did I miss a button or did anything 'feel' wrong.

My other big concern was the trade in tech. I'm a tech whore. The iPAD 3 had a brilliant retina screen and everything looked so sharp. With the PS VITA, the OLED was equally impressive. The GUI was really cool and different than the iOS experience, and the ability to grab free games because of my PSN membership was really exciting. The games looked fantastic. Period.

I was worried that the downgrade in the screen resolution and complexity of graphics would be an issue.

I needn't have worried. Nintendo is still Nintendo. Nintendo games are still amazing. I don't have the niggling buyer's remorse tech lust thing in the back of my mind. The 3DS just felt 'right'. Instantly. And it was fun. Love the system.

Wow, never thought I'd hear someone criticize Vita's ergonomics and praise the 3DS' in the same breath.

Totally not saying that one is better than the other. Just for me, the 3DS felt more comfortable. Sounds like several vita owners in this thread have found that in purchasing something that alters the grip, they experience ideal gaming conditions that work for them.

It's pretty much the same game they gave away with Qbasic 25 years ago, on Dos computers, at least in terms of graphics.

The funny thing though is apparently it was experiencing some slowdown and the guy had to optimize it in a patch.
