Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

I'm trying to persuade him to throw in Uncharted in there as well. If he accepts, I'm buying it.

Isn't Uncharted still free for PS+? Just get that instead.

Sounds like a great deal. As long as the screen isn't scratched all up I would jump on it if I didn't already have a Vita.

Whether they throw in Uncharted or not, you'll want to grab PS+ to take advantage of the instant game collection. So many great games available for "free" for new Vita owners.

Does Persona 4 have parts where you can grind mindlessly with the volume turned down/off? Going on vacation soon and looking for a time waster during the travel times.

You can go back and grind as much as you want.

After each dungeon its actually a good idea to go redo it anyway because you will fight a new boss and find an item i the top room. But you are also free to just go to any dungeon and just wonder about grinding.

The dungeon in December is the best, really. Otherwise just exploring the dungeon you just did and hope to find rare hands. Megido(laon) works best on them.

Thanks for the help with my PS Store issues. I was able to connect at one point last night, but it was super slow. And now it won't connect again. :- I'll call customer service if it keeps on not working.

Edit : And now it's working after loading for five minutes, lol.

My Vita froze last night for the first time since I got it like 6 months ago. Started to panic when it wouldn't let me restart, thank god for safemode.
still sucks that I lost 1 hour of Disgaea level grinding. =[

So, just bought a brand new Vita for 129 euros and downloading Uncharted and Gravity Rush right now (I also have DoA5+). Anything else I absolutely need to be part of VitaGAF?

I know I don't even bother going to the store anymore on my Vita or PS3. I just use the web store. It's much much more functional on a computer. Once you checkout any game it's in your download list which makes things easier. Although the Store on Vita isn't bad.

Out of the games currently free in PS+, those seem to be the most popular. Why wouldn't you at least try them out?

I loved Gravity Rush but couldn't get into Uncharted at all.

Ok - fair point. I agree with must try, as opposed to must play? :) Uncharted was brutal, and Gravity Rush was ok.

As soon as the push downloads from the store is enabled in May, I will never enter the PS3 store again. :)

Gravity Rush started off slow... some of the medal challenges for platinum were annoying... but it's a gem of a game.
Uncharted isn't the best in the series, but at least most people will agree -- it's better than some of the console entries (which one(s) tend to vary from person to person though).

Fair enough, it was bad wording on my part. It did work better when taken in context though since I was posting strictly about the PS+ collection.

Bought Smart As last night and I'm kind of regretting it already. I already struggle with some of these games but the Vita gimmicks make it worse, making it hard to really get an accurate score on some of these games. The touchpad daily challenge game really inflated my score due to accidentally hitting the horrendous rear pad constantly, and there was a free play wheel game that inflated my time a bit since I'm not good at all of these new-age touch and motion stuff, so flicking the wheel around to each letter took me a bit longer than it took my mind to figure out the word.

I don't have a DS or 3DS but are the brain training games better/more accurate in that regard?

I found the aiming/shooting in Golden Abyss impossible, lol, so I gave up... :(

Brain age is undoubtedly the undisputed king in this arena. My biggest complaint is that the latest entry didn't really expand much over the DS offerings, but for newcomers that's not an issue. Some of the challenges are really difficult, but as far as the controls are concerned, they work wonderfully.

the only game in smart as that i had trouble wiht was the one where you write the answer to the math equation on the touchscreen (maybe i didn't get far enough to play other cheap, inaccurate games). it kept misinterpreting the number i was drawing. it was so unbelievably frustrating, since it ruins your score, so i stopped playing the game. it's a shame, as the rest of the game was pretty decent. what a complete waste.

I didn't really find one more accurate than the other, although for someone like you who can't come to grips with the rear touchpad, Brain Age does have the advantage in that area. I found Smart As to be the better game, but the new Brain Age is fun and a bit more straightforward.

Last time I tried brain age, they forced usage of the mic, which ended horribly, as you had to train yourself to say "brue" instead of "blue", I think.

The only problem I have with Smart As is the stupid tilt use on roller blocks (mostly), since it's easy to move it too much when you really need precision. That and sometimes it's a bit of an asshole about recognizing the number 5.

If you're talking about calculation training (2+2=?), that's incorrect. At least if you're implying that you're penalized for wrong inputs other than the time it takes to reattempt the entry of the number.
That game is solely based on time and you are are not penalized for getting the wrong input. It happens to me all the time on the daily training, it'll read my 5 as a 9 or something and I still manage to get 3 stars.

One question I've had about Smart As... is this: can you increase the difficulty in the daily training?
Random side note, I just started the daily training due to this conversation... first game of the day? Turbo Tap -- 21.43 seconds, 0 penalties. ;)

Sweet, I'll try making a purchase via the browser version of the store. The PS Store on the Vita is fine, it's just not working reliably for me. After about 15 attempts, it only worked twice, and very slowly both times.

I picked up Smart As when it was on sale for about $10.

Really love the game. The front/rear pad thing I agree is annoying so what I do is hold the device completely in my left hand so I'm gripping the far left side only and use the thumb on my left hand to hit the front and the index on my right to do the back stuff.

Never had a problem with the game taking my inputs.

I am so god awful at the Chain Reaction mini game with the pegs. I struggle to get 1 star every time, I don't know why I'm so bad at it. It always throws off my score, I'll get 3 of the 4 scores at ~95% and my Logic score in the 50s.

Did you use gyro. Because if you can get the hang of that the aiming is fantastic.

Also if you have to much trouble you can go in and turn the auto aim on which just aims over enemies when you hold down L.

Oh yeah the game doesn't like how I do my 2s for some reason. It keeps putting them in as a 3 and I lost about 8 seconds on the math challenge because of it.

Yeah for me the game seems fine but my issue is with the various gimmicks Vita has because they tend to get in the way of the testing. Like games that require tapping the screen or writing a letter or number in I do fine but anything else like tilting or rear pad stuff I struggle with the controls more than the actual problem I'm being given.

agreed - at first i couldnt stand the gyro aiming. but by the end i couldn't live without it.

it is implemented so well.

great game - def a recommended title for the vita

I played Smart As so much that it only misinterpreted my number 5 very rarely.
I just had to draw it differently, make sure the curve wasn't too long, and top line was nice and straight.

Golden Abyss has disgusting character models. Drake doesn't even look anywhere near the Drake in the other games. His nose isn't proportional to his face and it really bothers me. Everyone looks like they're wearing fake teeth and they're rotting out of their mouth. Yet I feel like I'm the only one that feels this way. My girlfriend noticed though, because when she saw me play the game last year she said, "what's wrong with Drake's face?". I didn't pay attention to some of the cut-scenes because the character faces were so messed up.

The Vita screenshot thread needs more love people!

Yeah, pretty much. There's a margin for error with interpreting handwriting with a tip of your finger... could probably do better with a stylus, if you were inclined to order one.

I don't like the gyro games (all 1 of them, stupid rolling blocks) and the AR/Camera games were silly, but you don't even need to play those if you're just doing the daily training. The rear touch is only used for turbo tap -- if it's the basic turbo tap with just front/rear, you just do like darkside says and pick a hand to hold it in and use the other hand to pincer the touchpads... if it's a higher level, you just lodge the vita between your palms to free up all your fingers and that way you can hit the areas specifically.

I think divekick01's brain would explode if he tried the genius level for turbo tap. rear-top-left! front-bottom-left! front-top-left!

any games recommendations for a 13 years old lil girl that don't really know much English(any at all really),My niece Birthday this month,I'm got her a Vita(and Kindle Fire HD) and just made a PSN account for her, now I only bought Gurumin for her and don't know what to do next.

I don't know,Drake nose seems to get bigger with every new game in the series.

Uncharted 2 is the only game in the series that got character models/faces kinda right

Uncharted definitely took some time to connect with me, the first half of the game feels too much like a tech demo. Wayyyyy too much auto-platforming/climbing, what's the damn point? Once it got good, I couldn't put it down. The gyro aiming is fantastic.

half of the game felt like a very long unskippable tutorial.

The Amplifinity site updated again. They have approved one and refused one of my referrals, now there's still 9 left to go.

Golden Abyss' gyro aiming is fantastic. I rebelled against it initially, because it's really awkward and strange at first, but if you stick with it, at some point, it just clicks, and feels incredibly natural. To the point where playing Unit 13, which doesn't have gyro aiming, felt a little strange.

It's just so satisfying using the gyro to refine your aim. I was headshotting everyone with ease after a good hour or so adjusting to how gyro works.

I wish more Vita third person shooters had the option for motion aiming.

Also, I am absolutely fricking stoked for Guacamelee next week!

The faces definitely seemed off to me too. There's also something weird about their eyes.

Vita referral site has been updated today. For those who were in the program might want to check it out. I still have one successful referral, now I have a few more that were unsuccessful. 10 are still successful - pending.

EDIT: oh crap I didn't even see Massa's post.

My referrals haven't changed at all since last week. Oh well, at least I'm not getting more unsuccessfuls. :/

All you Smart As-es please add me, need some motivation to get back into the game. Never had friends to compare my brain power with :(
