true, their is no such thing as a curse. Some bad moves maybe, but too early to tell if this is a bad move or not. We are definitely moving to a always connected world.
It also seems MS is willing to lose in certain areas of the world for some reason, we will see why soon.
ill wait and see. wait for exclusives or other new services and then finally ill buy the same console that my friends are buying. which will most likely be the one that plays halo. you can guess which one that is.

If the claims of MS making Durango an entertainment hub, I'm sure as shit that what developers as a whole really think doesn't matter. They're probably more concerned on getting other realms of entertainment and hooking that as the epicenter to their product, as games will surely suffer from this decision.

Then Sony loses again. They need America for the PS4 to be the success they need it to be.
Some don't, or at the very least they get slow and unreliable internet.
This is an asinine stance to take when you consider the innovations and pushes Microsoft has brought to console gaming. Do you think PSN would be as good as it is now if Microsoft never released the XBOX?

But, as a consumer, I like to see good products and the companies that come up with them succeed and shitty products / tactics fail.

I still can't believe they would do this considering online penetration around the world still isn't at the point I would think it should be. For me personally though I agree with his "electricity will go out, I won't buy a TV" point. That is the reasoning that will cause me to purchase a 720 despite all this. It's not good reasoning for everyone though. If your internet going out is an issue then you have every right to say fuck this console. It almost certainly means when I have a choice between a PS4 and 720 version of a game I will be getting the PS4 unless there are some crazy exclusive features. I'm amazed he would even talk about this right now though.

This might be the first time the overall voice of gamers here is against Xbox. Sony got it bad in PS3 reveal, and Nintendo took the wrath towards end of Wii and now with Wii U. It's interesting to see Micrsoft get shit on for once.
The majority of people simply aren't going to care - most 360 owners already have Live and are online. Gripe and moan all you want, but the guy has a point. Now me, the PS3 is online and the XBox isn't simply because it doesn't have a wireless adaptor, and I'm not paying the scratch for one.
My choice. And always online is real - my home office is connected via the Internet, and if my Internet is down, so is my productivity. Hell, my coworkers were giving me crap for not being able to participate in video conference the first few months because of crappy Internet connection.
The fact is - this isn't going to matter to 95% of 360 owners. MS is prepared to lose the other 5% because they make nothing off of them anyway.

People are used to needing an internet connection to get the most out of these expensive devices. LIke I said, sure they don't require a connection, but how useful is an iPad to your average consumer if their internet goes out for a few hours? Honestly?

i just asked my ultra-casual sister about this in a roundabout way. She got her son a Wii U for Christmas. i told her about the new update coming out next month that will require on-line to play games offline. Her response "Wtf?"
i live in a fairly connected city and at least a few times a week the internet (and phone because we have a bundle) goes down. FOR HOURS AT A TIME. Some days i get up and the internet is out. i come home from work ten hours later and the internet is still fucking down. More aggravating than that is when it comes and goes intermittently for DAYS AT A TIME. Up for a few minutes, down for ten minutes. Up for a few more, then back down for even longer.

I'll never defend the imbecile at Microsoft that made these comments, but I don't see always online as anything remotely controversial. Just about everybody is online these days. Most of the people complaining in this thread right now, have a solid and reliable enough internet connection to come online and poke fun at this. In fact, most regular gaf users don't have serious concerns about internet access, so what are we really left with? Much ado about nothing.
The real controversy here isn't that Microsoft is defending always online. The real controversy is the disrespectful and foolish manner by which a Microsoft employee, in representing the company, has chosen to defend an always online console. For those believing this somehow wraps things up for Sony and the PS4 with a nice little bow on top, better think again. Always online will, I repeat, do nothing to significantly harm sales of the next Xbox compared to the PS4. For those emotionally invested in seeing one of the two machines fail, you better start placing your bets on something else, because always online isn't it.
