Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | April 2013 | Sacrifice your Independent Soul

Just finished Gravity Rush. Thanks to the GAFers who told me to stick with it. Awesome game. Hopefully the part 2 has tighter controls.

Best advice I've heard all day. People tend to wear really thick rose-colored glasses when they talk about this game, as is evidenced by the fact that it's simply not very good.

Sorry if this is slightly off topic but I've been wondering, what Dreamcast games have actually aged well? The ones that I've played that have aged well is just Space Channel 5 pt. 2, dunno about Skies of Arcadia.

I hope we get to see more Dreamcast Vita ports though.

I feel like Jet Set Radio is one of the few Dreamcast games that has aged poorly. Its controls just aren't up to scratch and it has seen been beaten by its Xbox sequel.

Still waiting on Skies of Arcadia HD on PS360/PS4/Vita. :(

I use the PDP trigger grips and they make it way more comfy to use. A grip of some sort is recommended I think.

These things have to be small to be portable but its hard to play for long periods without a grip. I find it that way anyway. With a grip I can play for as long as I want.

I love the PDP Trigger grips. At first the triggers are a little stiff so they need to break em in but man is it every a difference. I was actually planning on picking up the Nyko ones with extra battery life but I have heard a decent amount of people saying that they die after a solid 2+/- months of use.

I played JSR as soon as it came out on Plus and I really couldn't get into it because of the controls. Then I bought it on Steam a few weeks ago and that radically changed my opinion of the game for the better. Playing with the 360 controller on a large screen made a big difference.

Ive enjoyed JSR on the vita

and i dont even have nostalgia as i never played it before, and im a huge dreamcast fan (one of my favorite systems ever)

timing jumps and the way you cling to rails and stuff is kinda finicky but it works well enough

the music and graphics make up for any shortcomings

JSR didn't age poorly, gamers did.

BTW everyone skip the tutorial, it's probably just a bad translation or japanese guys uding random english words on their menus, it's more of a challenge mode than a tutorial. The real tutorial starts when you start a new game.

So you're actually relying on your phone's display to show you what you're playing also? D:

Finished recording, need to edit and upload now.

I looked at the Vita screen (it's at an angle) -- and I'm decent enough at NG games so it's okay. I needed to look at the phone to make sure the focus was good (Lumia 800 has bad focus issues...)

Spoiler alert: I'm not impressed with Sigma 2.

whew - you guys listen to the bombcast this week??

they bring up vita for 2 minutes... nothing but pessimism.

one guy is talking about how he uses it to wake up every morning and then says - atleast i'm using it for something...also says how grimey doa5 looks. i thought that was supposed to be pretty nice on vita?? is it grimey?

It is giantbomb. No surprises there.

I am not remotely surprised. Everyone at Giant bomb either hates or doesn't care one bit about the Vita. Its unfortunate because o really like Giantbomb otherwise.

Guys I hope you don't mind me posting this here, the other thread kinda just passed my post with no answers and isn't that active anyway...

I've always been under the impression that a JRPG constitutes more of a turn based battle system ala ffvii, ffviii, or chrono trigger/cross

As in, it was stationary combat with just being able to make the choices for battle (except in the case of a game like ni no kuni in which you can move within the field of battle, but it was still turned-based with time being the dividing factor between your attacks..)

Now I see stuff like Jeanne D'arc and tactics ogre and crisis core mentioned in these lists in the OP and even mentioned through out the thread, and I could've sworn those dont really fall under the moniker of a JRPG.. I mean spamming X to attack was never a part of the JRPG's I've played and grids usually mean that it's a SRPG

Or am I completely mistaken and JRPG is just any rpg out of Japan? Lol

And are there any other RPGs like the ones I described on the psn store?

I have FF6-9, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Xenogears, Silver Star Harmony, TiTs, I bought all the PSP personas and persona 4..

Anything with similar battle systems would be nniiiccceeee

ahhh yea. i guess i wasn't aware of how much they piss on the vita.... i do like their podcasts. i wonder why they are SO negative. they even go on to blast it saying it's on it's second life an lost of other bs. crazy.

I wish Sony release official grips for the Vita with extra R2 & L2 triggers and enable HDMI output. After all the ugly CCP for 3DS added some benefits of 3 buttons in addition to the circle pad.

Man, it will be perfect for
PSone emulator + PS4 remote play+ Gaikai Services + Vita TvPlay.

I agree. I would prefer a tablet SKU, but releasing a Frankenstein attachment with L2/R2 sticks would be a must. I would definitely want it to play PS4 games remote or using it as a second screen. I can deal with lack of R3/L3 by using the front and/or back touch screen.

GiantBomb don't care about anything unless it's on Xbox 360 lol. They haven't really warmed to 3DS, Vita or Wii U at all. Wonder what they'll think of PS4 and Nextbox.

Also, I'm considering Guilty Gear Judgement (PSP). Is the beat 'em up stuff good?

jrpg just means japanese rpg. a japanese srpg still falls into that category, but i do think that it is a bit misleading to suggest srpgs to a jrpg fan without specifying they are sprgs. what you're looking for is a traditional, turn-based jrpg.

as for the answer to your question (game suggestions), i have no idea! i'm only recently getting back into rpgs after a generation of somehow avoiding them.

J only means Japanese. It comes with a given artstyle and character/scenario development compared to the western RPG.

You've got the classical JRPG that you took for the general JRPG. Then you have some different variations that propose a completely different kind of gameplay. Crisis Corse (the one where you spam) is what we call an Action RPG where the battles propose some dynamic real time movement that has an influence on the battle. Tactics Ogre and stuff are what we call Tactical RPG where you have to manage different units, moving them and making them perform given actions in a turn based manner. In that type of games, position is really important and it's an entire part of the combat system, with a much more added value compared to say the position you can select (in front or behind) in FFVII.

If you're looking for classical JRPGs on PSP (I guess?), I'd say you have the most important and known ones. I don't know everything that's been put up on the PSN. Maybe have a look at that locked thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=464557 ?

Hey Vita-GAF,

I have a $10 off Soul Sacrifice pre-order code if anyone wants it.

Unfortunately, this code only works at Future Shop/Canada.

PM me for the code.

Uh so...this awkward. I finally got P4G from Bestbuy and to my surprise the vita skin of P4G came with it. I thought this only came with the limited edition. Awkward part, I already bought another skin that I think I am going to really like

It also came with preorders.

God damnit.

haha same thing happened to me. i was pretty surprised

So this must just had a box full of em left and are giving em like candy. ARGH...it looks so nice aswell. Decisions...

Would be nice if there was a skin that you can place on the vita like a digital photo frame :P. A man can dream...

It's apparently going to take 4 or so hours to upload 2GB =(

4 Hours for 2gb!? Good god man.

So you got your coupon right away? I requested one as soon as it popped up through tsilon but still nothing =\.

I listen to the bombcast where two min are spent making fun of the vita/way longer praising their indie recruitment. Followed by taking a giant shit on microsofts lack of involvement.

Come on here and people are screaming ms bias. Hilarious

What happened to the Frobisher Says DLC for North America? I've been getting Near presents from Euro players for months now that don't do anything. I think they patched the NA version but still no additional DLC?

what DLC is this? additional mini games? I already bought it a few weeks ago

Final Fantasy Tactics is such an amazing game...I am replaying it for the third time, just got to chapter 4. I like it better than most games I have played this year (crysis 3, tomb raider, bioshock infinite). Classic game!

Watching the video back, I should have held the Vita further away from the camera. NG2 gameplay is okay but NG1 is not so nice.

I honestly have no idea why it's taking so long. 100kBps for upload is pretty bad.

Am I the only one that thought that commercial reeked of pretentiousness?

I don't know, it just seems like its trying to hard to convince you that "Wowzers! I'm having the time of my life playing the Sony PlayStation VITA!! #arentyoujealous?"

Meh. The song was great, I just wasn't digging the visuals. I don't think I've ever seen anyone play their Vita like that at all. I know I certainly don't. It's a sexy device, to be sure, but I think, at this point, we need more commercials showing off the cool games, and less commercials showing "trendy" 20 somethings jumping around in slow motion.

Maybe I'm just old and jaded at this point.

The Vita kicks so much ass, I just don't think the marketing is doing it any justice at all, and focusing on the wrong thing still. An in your face montage of games seems like it would be so much more straight forward and to the point.

PSASBR online makes me wanna pull my hair out.

Did you upload raw footage straight from your phone? You gotta compress that shit, man.

No of course not. It's a 30 minute video I compressed down to 8kbps video at 720p. I probably should have opted for 5k or something.

I need to get some kind of yay-high stand for the Vita so I can play it when it's stationary.

I don't think anyone meant that,I think people were talking about how GB usually ignore Vita(lack of QLs) and only mention it as a joke (like in PS4 announcement video).

No Gravity Rush? the ad will be perfect for Gravity Rush(there was a SCEJ ad like this for GR anyway)

where is the best place to sell my vita, I need to get rid of it before I start randomly floating around and get hit by a bus O_O;

seriously though absolutely terrible commercial, it doesn't make the vita look fun at all, it doesn't really show much in the way of games, it just show people randomly floating around which isn't an activity that most people can relate to :/

I thought sony hired a new ad manager, why are they still making pointless artsy-like commercials that in general makes me sad to support sony in any way :/

LOL, Sony cheaps out with Vita as usual. A lot of that footage is culled from earlier commercials (such as the NA COD:BO:D bundle one) that had the same theme of floating around in a real-life arena.

Terrible commercial, in any case.

problem here is they really just don't know what to do with Vita or how they market it (and for what audience),this ad for an example will do nothing for anyone.
