The stories are not related, but I would still recommend you play the first. This series is not a traditional SRPG, there are no classes and you don't rely on individual units. Each unit is actually a team and battles occur in a first person turn-based fashion.
They aren't sequels, but you should play Overclocked anyway.

Well, this seems like a game I should buy
The 3D would be bad anyway, just like in EO4! Atlus really doesn't care for the gimmick. I think what most people want from the top screen is the hope that it can benefit from a higher resolution, widescreen, etc.

Better resolution and I think it's more natural to look at the top screen for what the Devil Survivor games display on the bottom. That might just be me, though

Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the King of Bel-air.
