Fighting Games Weekly | April 1-7 | And after 0-3, he has risen

Poor Sean, CoJ making fun of the black dude who wants to learn the Japanese way of fighting =/
No offense intended.

Wonder if a similar list is available for SNK fighters...

Why is Sean below Dan?
Why is Sakura that high?
I think Rose should go up a tier.
Oni should be Tier 1.
Final Bison is a dumb character.
Ever since someone joked about Extra Good Ryu I've been dying for it to become real :( Make it like an ascended Super Saiyan state.

Wouldn't that be Ryu trained by Oro?

Extra Good Ryu wouldn't make sense, since the battle is about the desire to kill vs. controlling that desire. It's The Force all over again. It's not really about good vs. evil, but passion vs. temperance. Oni and Evil Ryu are their corresponding characters given in to their passion for violence. Otherwise Ryu is just Ryu.

All this talk is making me wish I knew how to play Oro, like, in the slightest.

I might as well try picking him up. Lord knows my Ken is still scrub-tier at best and i've been mashing with that dude since 2001.

maybe all of Extra Good Ryu's attacks just comfort the opposing fighter to the point they just lay down and nap.

That's not Extra Good, that's Extra Wussy. Good things involve violence.

Reminds me of a terrible film I saw called "A Serious Man". I do not recommend it to anyone, it was terrible.

I'm..

... I'm trying real hard to be Extra Good Ryu right now, Ringo. I'm trying reaaaalll hard...
There was nothing good about it. Worse than FFVIII (lol).

It's a shame that something like that can parade around as having "depth" in cinema today. It was actually loaned to me by a film student because she loved it. I told her that my wife and I felt we were owed an apology.

I think I've had enough emasculated-man-as-comedy to last me an eternity.

Maybe the worst Coen movie. If you measured my brain patterns while I was sitting in that theater, you'd think I was watching paint dry, or perhaps pre-2013 SFxT XBL Rolento mirrors

Ryu and Chun's son will be the strongest. The mixture of their yin and yang will produce the greatest being in the Capcom universe. Ryu himself will benefit from their love. His chi channels will all open and his power level will go up.

This reminds me of a conversation I overheard the other day and dudes were discussing Vegeta vs Shadow the Hedgehog. A couple of guys were passionately making the case for Shadow.

Ugh, that "good guy" morality is so repulsive. Especially since Wolverine is contradicting himself by killing Magneto to save humans.

I'm not sure what's worse:
-Good guy moralist who says killing is wrong, but kills anyway because he's doing it "for the right reason", like that means something
-Good guy moralist who says killing is wrong, and the story has all the villains die convenient deaths so he never has to get his hands dirty (lolBatman)

I think I might vomit just by thinking about it. This is why ou have to love evil: it's just so honest.
He did it for the greater good and Wolverine is never against killing (that's Batman who has the moral code). Besides Magneto was basically doing what the Nazis were so it was obvious that he had lost his way somewhere along the line. It was poetic that Wolverine finishes off because previoisly Magneto had stripped him off his Adamantium and that ended up biting him in ass.

Extra Good Ryu doesn't need to fight. He finds another way to win.

As such he doesn't even have a move list. Maybe he can be added to Skullgirls?

I don't like how Thor is as strong as/stronger than The Hulk. Cause then what the fuck is the point of The Hulk?
Hulk technically has no limit to his strength and at a certain level would out power even Thor. If he's mad enough.... another poorly written character who develops just enough rage to gain just enough power to beat stuff.

Since I'm pretty much convinced that SFV needs (to add diversity in match ups) and will probably have some sort of streamlined gem system that isn't idiotically implemented, I think it'd be cool if you could pick your character and then a "style" for lack of better words that they were trained under. Somewhere between a groove and a gem.

Each character has a set of different style trainings you could choose before entering a match. Say a defensive style that bolsters the guts system/vitality, an aggressive style which boosts special attack damage, an efficiency style that reduces scaling, or a focus style that boosts meter gain. They don't have to be uniform either, can be different per character. This is probably too much to balance for reliably (any of those crude examples just slightly off balance can be disastrous) but pretty much the only thing we know about Ono's vision for the future of SF is he wants to break down the dependence on match ups, and it seems that's the most common complaint about the state of AE too. Not sure how that's even possible in a world without perfect balance but I admire the effort.

Can work for the in-game story too. You can have a bunch of new blood and old blood seeking advice from the best for the most intense World Warrior tournament yet, which demands diverse training from its participants because of the increased experience vets have and the biggest world stage yet. Name the styles after the best trainers in the franchise (Satsui No Hadou for aggressive style, Akuma as trainer, Yoga for efficiency style, Dhalsim as trainer, whatever the opposite of Satsui No Hadou is which I'm forgetting the name of for the focus style with Gouken as your trainer, one for the villain, etc.). If "train" is too strong a word for the more socially impaired characters, use something else that just implies them employing tactics according to a certain style; but thats semantics. Add NextGen™ slight costume changes depending on what style you choose to appeal to casuals, with all DLC costumes having variants for all styles and boom. Also allows devs to 1UP themselves when it comes to atrocious achievements: beat arcade mode with every character in ever style. I think that can make the difference instead of adding a new mechanic to the combat system; or they could even make it something you can activate with a cool down with the press of two buttons.

Hire me Capcom. I do what GBdon't.

Ugh, you can't just admix deontological and consequential moral systems like that. You're going to make me nerd rage, Dahbomb! >:-()

I mean in terms of how his power level is defined. He used to be weaker than Thor... now some writers at Marvel pitch as the stronger of the two.

I am also waiting for Marvel to officially classify Magneto as an omega class mutant already.

Have you even read any Hulk comics?

...and before him, 10 years of Peter David on Hulk. Go read this, it's a magnificent run. Greg Pak's Hulk is good too and really fun. There's also Jason Aaron, but his style reminds me of Joss Whedon for whatever reason.

If not for the character, then just read these books for the writing, they're among the best comic writers in the medium.

Oh and Red Hulk by Jeff Parker is great too.

Writers change and with each different writer, a character is handled differently, you can go with what the current writer is doing if you want. I personally just treat them being of equal power, and that should they fight with all their might, in the aftermath of their battle
they go party in Asgard and bed every woman within eyesight

I've consulted the SF Canon Guide and got to the bottom of this, don't worry guyz

Tier 1
Akuma, Gill, Oro, SFA3 Final Bison(before he got blown up in like 12 different endings and they had to rebuild a weaker clone body for SF2), Ingrid - the strongest out of the
SFer's. This group's in the godly range and outclasses everyone (in
some cases like Ingrid, literally).
Tier 2
SF2 Bison, Sagat, Ryu, Evil Ryu, Q(hinted), SF4 Gouken
Tier 3
Ken, Gen (and SFA Akuma), Rose, Nash, Urien, Guy, Seth, Oni
Tier 4
Guile, Chun-Li, Hugo, Vega, Twelve (hinted), Maki, Abel, C. Viper, Sodom,
Rolento, Cody, Sakura, Juri
Tier 5
Adon, Balrog, Cammy, Zangief, Dhalsim, T. Hawk, Alex, Eagle, Birdie
(Saiki places Cody and Guy here, but Tiamat thinks they should go much
higher for Streetwise reasons, Vasili's compromising stand given above)
Tier 6
Everyone else but Tier 7 (things get really sloppy here, due to how most
characters below tier 5 do not have enough storyline info to tier on
noncircumstantial evidence). A pretty good guess I think, would be this
(consider the rest of the characters in this tier and below to just be
hinted)
the twelve girls, Karin, Necro, Dudley, Lee, Mike, Geki, Retsu, Joe, Hakan
(Saiki places Rolento and Sodom here, but Tiamat thinks they should go much
higher, again Vasili's compromise presented up above)
Tier 7
Blanka, Fei-Long, E. Honda, El Fuerte, Dee Jay, Ibuki, Makoto, Yun, Yang
Tier 8
Elena, Remy, R. Mika
Tier 9
Dan, Rufus
Tier 10
Sean

LOL Sean, hold dat shit

So this is law? I've never heard of this. I didn't know Capcom actually created a story tier list to show where everybody stands.

Funny thing about the bottom 3 if that 2 of them have been top tier in some form. 2nd Impact Sean was beastly and so was Rufus in Vanilla SF4 and SFxT.

EDIT: Wait a minute. How is Juri in tier 4 when she obliterated Guile, Chun, and Cammy in the 2nd SF4 anime movie.

April Duels? Tokido, Mago, Xian, bunch of Americans, tons of Canadians not good enough for you? It's not MAJOR Major, but I think it's a big enough event considering the list of attendees.

I know you have to support your country men, but if it doesn't have a thread, it isn't a major :P

But ok yes, hopefully that comes to the rescue tomorrow.

Yo Canada doesn't play bruh,

I thought I taught you the first time with that avatar.

tryna' get my blood pressure high n' shit, trying to make a canadian brutha make a new thread.

so how about that awesome counter to morrigan/doom? i hear this was chris g's reaction to him finally being exposed.

he might as well stick to injustice where he can fraud it out.

Pretty sure there isn't an actual comprehensive canon guide. Someone just largely tried to piece together relative strengths from the games and media, and the occasional tidbits from Capcom.
