Just breaking on BBC News. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-22067155

Former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher has died at 87 following a stroke, her spokesman has said.

Lord Bell said: "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning."

Baroness Thatcher was Conservative prime minister from 1979 to 1990.

She was the first woman to hold the post. Her family is expected to make a further statement later.

RIP.

Sure was a real arbiter of change, whether good, or bad. Also one of the few female leaders in the west at that time.

In other news the Diamond Jubilee celebrations have finally arrived after a year long delay in the North of England.

RIP

I'm not going to comment on her record, but I expect internationally - and probably down South - people are going to be perplexed by the reactions that are going to happen elsewhere.

She did a lot of things that resolutely needed to be done, and she's unpopular for it. Whoever did that would have been.

She was an incredible leader, that much is more or less incontrovertible.

Wow. Even as someone who disagrees with a lot of what she did, she was truly a leader. Damn right the current Tories can't stand in her shadow.

Also, it seems that she was in a terrible state of mind towards her life, so I hope that prevents people from celebrating her death too much (lol).

If I spoke how I truly felt I would be banned also, but I guarantee nobody from where I live will shed a tear ...... in fact many will have a drink in celebration.

I was waiting for your post. :D

I'd have to agree that she was an extremely strong leader... but a horrible person.

Just heard this news.

Not going to gloat, but neither will I mourn her passing.

I'm sure if I viewed todays obits I'd find someone, anyone, who's passing would move me more.

We're probably one of the few nations that have parts of the population that will celebrate the death of a former leader so... passionately.

She caused a lot of hurt in the community I am from, some members very nearly killed her once ...... such is the strength of feeling.

I guess I'm a little callous if my main issue is that the next few days will be dreary wall-to-wall eulogising from the media

She'll be laughing with Reagan at Kim Jong-un.

RIP

My Facebook already has posts with people gloating about her death. :-/

Her policies hurt a lot of people, i'd assume here in Scotland no one will give much of a crap while in the South of England her passing will be treated like the pope dying.

A cold soul becomes cold flesh.

Disagree with so much she did but won't relish in someones mother dying. At least she lived long enough to see the death of the NHS and something to rival her Poll Tax.
