I admire her balls. Whether you agreed or disagreed with her views, she was an inspirational figure. I don't think there is another British politician who is as equally adored and hated.

Blair nails the hated bit, Churchill the loved bit.

No point in being nasty about a senile old woman who hasn't been in power for a very long time, so I won't.

That's about as strong a reaction you'll get from me on here.

As a northerner I'm supposed to be celebrating apparently? That's clearly what my Facebook would lead me to believe right now anyway.

Honestly I just don't know enough about her other than shutting down the mines.

Drink will be flowing on the Falls road tonight.

If I spoke ill of the dead after Jerry Falwell went, then I can do it for Thatcher too.

An absolute political ratbag. Got away with war crimes and arms deals with her fellow war criminals. Spat in the face of the British working class to satisfy her House of Lords belly scratchers who protected her for her entire term. The Feminists will talk her up with her "Iron Lady" title, but alas, when it comes to being a terrible leader on many levels, gender has nothing to do with it.

Naive question here, what don't people like about her?

For most it'll be the brutal destruction of industry in the North that shattered communities and left families destitute.

For me it is:

1. Making us one of the only Western governments not to condemn African apartheid, not to mention labelling Nelson Mandela a terrorist.

2. Her proposed Clause 28 that would have banned mention of homosexuality in schools. Had the unintended consequence of uniting all the gay rights groups.

Also noteworthy for proposing a Poll Tax that triggered riots in London.

Supported Pinochet too.

And there was the whole milk snatching affair.

She definitely changed the UK, for good or for worse. An influential figure, and together with Churchill, one of the most famous British PM's.

Just read about this and what happens? I get a text from a 'friend' regarding this stating 'Ding dong the witch is dead'. Fair enough not liking her or what she did but what about showing some respect or decency?

Oh man, it's been a while since I heard " Thatcher Thatcher, Milk Snatcher".

i was born/raised in england until i moved to australia when i was 8. one thing i've never understood (and wiki didn't properly explain) - why do northerners seem to despise her, whilst southerners look up to her?

i'd post the moz song, but its probably not appropriate.

Actually, a lot of feminists I know decry her for supporting the patriarchy.

Fair enough, i honestly hadnt given her much thought but never knew such vocal opposition existed to her. (i'm from australia btw)

Damm a few people will be having drinks in celebration of this news.

It's pretty dark stuff. But the strength of feeling she had on this country will bubble to the surface.

I'm not sure wether this is a good or bad thing for the tories at this point.

Just told my sister and I couldn't keep a grin of my face. I guess that explains how I feel, kinda feel bad for feeling like this over someone's death :/
