Explain to me this pony thing

I don't think a large segment of the brony subculture is interested in the sexualized aspects. They certainly aren't made of pedophiles or anything like that. I also don't think that they're just doing it to stand out "because the show is for girls".

But man, if you think that there is nothing anomalous about the brony subculture then I don't know what to say. There are dozens of other popular fictional properties that don't generate such fandoms. Just about all I can compare it to is Sonic, but at least Sonic makes some degree of sense to me because he was popular when a lot of people who got into it were in their childhoods and early adolescence.

I'm not even saying there's anything bad. I'm just saying "anomalous". Unusual.

Because wacky fandoms usually go hand in hand with resentment of parents or society and rebellion against religion or established beliefs.

It was an observation.
The conservative or religious bronies/furries are the best.

Yes it is, Bronyman, yes it is. Keep that pimp hoof strong.

There is literally insane amounts of Simpsons porn on the internet. Should we start assuming people who watch the Simpsons are all weirdos?
Is The Simpsons a children's show? Do these people derive some or all of their identity from their love of The Simpsons? How many fedoras are there?

What kind of animal is a Simpson?

Well, I think the Simpsons are marketed towards a bigger audience. MLP was always known as a little girl show, not an early 20s male show.

Liking an entertainment product is one thing. Being a merch whore/evangelist for it is another, and not limited to anything.

It is weird that stuff like anime/mlp seem to attract a certain type of...person though. I can't think of any other fanbase that has such diehard fans that are so...cringe-worthy. Maybe it's just me.

This. Also, I doubt the ratio of Simpsons fans watching Simpsons porn is way smaller. I know I'm an old Simpsons fan and I've never seen anything of the kind.

Mispost sorry :)

I probably didn't say that thing you're quoting.
The good thing about these sad little men is no sane woman would let one put their penis inside of her, so we don't have to worry about them reproducing
I actually know quite a few pony fans in relationships. As my tag indicated til I foolishly started posting in this thread I'm in one myself.

How's your sex life going brah?

On the average day he will have the following:

- Rainbow Dash necklace
- Rainbow Dash sunglasses
- "20% Cooler" shoulder strap bag
- "20% Cooler" jacket
- Rainbow Dash "SWAG" t-shirt
- Rainbow Dash sweatpants
- probably Rainbow Dash boxers

i want pictures of this monster...

Virgin, wack job.

Being marketed to a bigger audience makes Bart/Lisa porn drawings more accetable? How is that even relevant? MLP is marketed towards a bigger audience than like ten fedora wearing pony-fapping sadsacks at some fucking reddit meetup even if the sadsacks get their pictures spread widely around the internet for people to mock.

Not acceptable, he probably doesn't see the primary audience, little girls, drawing such things. No one does.

My impression about the OP is that he is not really trying to have GAF 'explaining' the pony-ness of his "friend", but rather more to the side of seeking confirmation plus justification from more people about him feeling that his friend is 'weird' or 'abnormal.'

Sorry OP, but that's just my honest impression about this whole thread.

In all fairness, it was a safe bet.

It's worth noting that the whole brony thing started on 4chan (presumably as a joke). This is the same place that started Rick Rolls, Boxxy fandom, rage comics, and the Joakim Mogren CG theory. It's not that unusual. My general experience of the 4chan community is that it alternates between anarchistic cynicism and childlike enthusiasm, and often the two blend in with each other until you don't know which is which.

MLP just happened to be the most irony-free, cynicism-free cartoon at the moment, which means it was prime material for simultaneous hatred and adoration (both ironic and genuine).

American football fans?

Jesus, no, it's not acceptable, but it does explain it's existence. I fully believe in rule of the internet that there is a porn of everything, but there is a disproportionate amount of MLP porn, compared to other niche girl children shows.

There's more MLP anything compared to other niche girl children shows.

Sports are something that can actually be engaged in the real world. You can actually play them and experience them live in person, in reality. Sports are something that have existed for nearly all of recorded history and have been and are a source of civic pride. For most people supporting a sports team isn't just being behind that team but rather the city they live in or have a relationship with.

Nope. This didn't buy you anything. You don't play football with the Eagles.

And people have been fans of fictional characters for longer than pro sports teams. Heck, they form entire religions out of fictional (or fictionalized) characters.

i'm not even sure there's a disproportionate amount of MLP porn compared to any other cartoon media that is nearly as popular.

This dude should expect to be single for a loooooong time....

People responded to your earlier posts in this thread if you're still hanging around. :)

*Laughs*

Don't worry, you're not the only one who left after being called out for their nonsense in this thread. You make fun of that parody listing!

somepony needs to learn to be a little more tolerant....

anyway "I AM THE MAN in this relationship" that's hilarious. Does his voice get like this audio overdub when he says those words??

Also...he's good at fashion? Rarity you are not, sugarcube.

Nonsense? Yeah okay, keep comparing being a pony pervert to being homosexual or a racial minority.

No point discussing this with ignorant fanatics.

Yeah, this is what's so bizarre about super fans. Basing your whole life and identity around some TV show or movie. These people must be lonely and broken and empty.

Nobody did that in this entire thread and I'm both gay and a pony fan so I'm in a (not entirely) unique position to discuss the subject.

Though your second point is spot on I'm a very accepting person and willing to discuss it with you despite your difficulties in the area. It's cathartic to me. That's how we conquer ignorance, through sharing knowledge.

Oh look, it's this thread again. We've only had, what, ten of these?

Yes, basing your life around MLP likew the guy in the OP seems to have done is taking it a bit far, but it's his choice. No, most bronies or pony fans or whatever you want to call them are not like that.

As usual, this turned into a GAF pony thread that involves insisting on characterizing large segments of the fanbase as severely socially maladjusted and whatever variant of "creepy."

I get that there's a striking novelty about the brony age range being all over the place, and as the show's "brony" audiences simultaneously browses the Internet these same people produce pony content of various age appropriateness that makes the question (there are tons of creative people who watch this show though.)

But it's like (and no malice toward the OP), past whatever you're told it's not that hard to understand. My Little Pony is a pretty simple show; it's generally liked for how colorful it is, some fans like it for the animation, the characters are fairly charming, it has tons of pop-culture references, it's kind of fantastic and escapist (though it's not deep/compelling enough to actually get you to escape anywhere), it's not cynical, some people like the vocal pieces, and I also think some people like the moral simplicity of the show and nostalgia of childhood/adolescence that it evokes. It also has some "big names" associated with it (John de Lancie, Lauren Faust.)

The relative mainstream popularity just enables more people to buy shit and associate themselves with it. This isn't exclusive to My Little Pony in a mental way; there are Potter fans, Star Wars fans, cosplayers and fans of various anime and game things. They spend a lot of time on this stuff and from a point of understanding just think of it the same way. Just like any other hobby: with people of varying degrees of fervor, casual and extreme. This sort of reminds me of the shit that "theatre geeks" sometimes got, though I'm not a theatre geek at all.

Enough people on GAF don't make good faith efforts to understand the "bronies," past distaste.

I have mentioned the show to a few friends, few even went on to like the show. Honestly, my enjoyment of the show seems no more out of place than me enjoying a good Disney film.

That being said, I enjoy the show, and some aspects of the fandom (few pony artists I like), but the show isn't my life or who I am.
