Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS) coming to NA retail/eShop Summer 2013 (July 16)

As somebody who's been a general fan of the metaseries for years, it's actually embarrassing to see so many people being bitter that their favorite part of the series isn't the one receiving (slightly) more recognition.
It's not about recognition. That's really missing the point. It's about sales and development resources. The core series is significantly less popular, so it receives significantly fewer resources than Persona does. That absolutely has an effect on the games being made.

That's fair, though I guess I've not really been all that worried about the resource disparity being all that big. P5 is probably going to get more resources devoted to it than anything other than maaaaaaybe SMTxFE (and that is a very very very big maybe), but at least we've managed to get two new core SMTs and a couple of other really outstanding games while P5 has been stuck in whatever limbo its in right now.

Still, while I guess it's warranted to be annoyed at Atlus, it's really of dumb to have a sort of paranoia over Persona fans plotting against the rest of the franchise.

Exactly why we should talk about how awesome these games are!

I can't wait for SMT4. Gonna rock that neutral path. Maybe even go law if Atlus's surprising swing towards making law not mustache-twirlingly evil anymore continues.

while P5 has been stuck in whatever limbo its in right now.

There was a an almost 7 year gap (1999-2006) between Persona 2 EP and Persona 3. I think the quick turn-around on Persona 4 lead some people to believe this was a franchise they would churn out every other year or so. I don't think it's in "limbo" as much as it is in such an early stage of development that they have nothing meaningful to show the media.

It's not like the Persona franchise is being silent, anyway. They've got those P3 movies on the way.

Anyway, I don't know about the "troll movement" thing, it's more likely than not some butthurt people over the first person thing, or the fact it's using those Soul Hackers sprites still (which I love... well, except for Titania, I really prefer the green dress Titania). Negativity always dominates discourse on the internet because those who are content have nothing to complain about! It's nothing to worry about.

People butthurt that Atlus announces this instead of persona 5 & people without a 3ds as stated in the past few pages
All the thumbs down still doesn't make sense to me, because it's the first time I've heard of such negativity on the subject lol.

For example look at this SMTIV trailer, it has ZERO thumbs down.

Also I don't really think people are upset that this is not Persona and that they don't have a 3DS, but I think the thumbs down is more likely due to 2D graphics after what we had in Nocturne, and the fact that Atlus has a worse and worse relationship with Europe.

Also it's possible that there are some Fire Emblem fans who only know of SMT through that video, and assume it looks crap and are disappointed that there is going to be a SMT X Fire Emblem game lol.

who cares about thumbs. i doubt it has anything to do with the 3DS. the 3DS is good enough for what they're aiming for. it's not like the ugly atrocity that was Dragon Quest 9 on DS.

I care about my Thumbs a lot! I couldn't do mug without them!

Joking aside, I have been following this game since day -3 and aside from reactions to 2d graphics and presentation, this is the first negative thing I've seen abou this game to this magnitude.

I wouldn't bet on it. EOIV didn't have it and there is no Intend to Buy on Club Nintendo for Soul Hackers.
Weird ....in Europe every 3DS game comes with a Club Nintendo code.

That new video is the only one with a large number of dislikes and it likely sprung up because of some dumb Youtube argument (SMTxFE related?). Nothing to worry about.

Well, either the way, the premise seems really cool, and I had a good time with Strange Journey. This will be another awesome addition to my library. The 3DS is busting loose this year -- no doubt about it.

I'll just ask here: will Soul Hackers have a club nintendo code in the box?

Hopefully. My EO4 didn't have a club nintendo code nor a manual. Might as well have bought the used version as they had four and the employee warned me that there was only the cart in the box but I didn't believe him :S

The team of designers working on Shin Megami Tensei IV is called the “Maniacs Team,” presumably due to their heavy involvement in the Maniacs edition of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (and in some cases, the original version, too).

I mean she honest to G*d might be since her description is literally "She seems out of place in this setting and she seems interested in the Hero."

The other two characters, Tsugihaki and Fujiwara, have basically no description other than you run into the in Tokyo and one is waiting on the other when you first encounter him.

Maybe she is a timelord.

Maybe she's the super-secret superultramegaboss of the game who summons Seraph as a Persona.

...Or maybe she's Lilith trying her tricks again.

lol, Hikaru apparently translates to "light" and some people are apparently speculating that she's Lucifer.

Really doubt Lucifer wouldn't be blonde, but I like the speculation that he'd be a school girl now.

Oh yeah, the sword that Tsugihagi is holding is the same as Masakado's.
So.
You know.

And his buddy is named Fujiwara...

Speculation: Lilith, Lucifer, or Amaterasu as the titular Goddess Reincarnated.
Or just some chick.
