Out for one year with this injury

Also to note: LOL @ the NBA/Stern giving the lakers 50 fucking FTs to insure they win the game and make the playoffs, warriors got 16.

GSW are a jump shooting team, you don't get many ft's off jumpers. They also purposefully fouled dwight a ton of the time to prevent him from getting easy pts.

I am in a state of sincere despair right now. I've been watching this guy ball every year since 96...

I pretty much grew up watching basketball with this guy, man. And to think there's a high chance this is the end.

So many things going downhill for the lakers...all in one season.

First it started with winning no preseason games and now up to this.

Kobe's not the type to give up like that, even if its for the best.

Wonder if the Lakers can managed to keep their 8th place for the last two games.

It really doesn't.

At least now we don't have to see a Lakers "will they get the 8th seed" update every 15 minutes on Sportscenter.

Sucks for Kobe but that's what happens when you have 'antoni as your head coach. He runs your star players into the ground.

Infinitely more stomach-able then ESPN's love affair with Heat's streak and all things heat (Oh sure, go ahead and show that Heat vs. Bobcats game during prime time post streak).

Also, as much as I dislike D'Antoni, can you really blame this on him? Kobe is a pretty vocal dude, this was a lose/lose for D'Antoni, either you sit Kobe and he starts to hate you and give you that look (RIP Mike Brown) or you let him play and this shit happens. Again, I still hate his coaching game but I don't think you can really blame this on him.

Sad news. Shame if that's how hr goes out. Great player.

Yes, yes he is. When he put that 81 on the Raptors in Jan of 06 was one of my top NBA moments. Or When he outscored my Mavs through 3 quarters. I remember debating with my friends early last decade who was better him or Tmac. How wrong my friend was. Greatest SG of all time besides 1 guy who I can't remember but whatever. A guy with that much drive will not end his career on this. He will be back. :)

I had this injury in Sept. Still recovering. I can run two miles now (was a marathoner before the injury) but still no explosive cuts like you need for basketball. He is a more serious athlete than I am so he may recber more quickly but its a damn serious injury. Surgery then 8 weeks in a boot then your calf is so badly atrophied you can barely move. If its a full rupture he has a tough road ahead of him. But hes a warrior so well see.

you can blame it on the coach, its his job to put the players safety above the player. He should have taken kobe out after the first time he went down to have the trainer look at his knee and to see if hes ok and to rest him since hes been playing 48 minutes a game for a week.

Then when hes rested up a bit, more hydrated, you let him go back in. Instead pringles being scared of kobe let kobe boss him around. A player will always want to play through any injury, look at the NFL, players would lie to their coaches on being hurt and concussed to keep on playing. Its the coaches job to tell them NO instead saying,"your body your problem"

Dang, Laker's have been on a bit of a roll too! (at least compared to the beginning of the season) Hope he heals quickly, but I'm interested in seeing how well the Lakers will hold up.

I know he'll be out for a year plus and all...but the talk of retirement is beyond premature.

Guy is gonna be hooping as long as his body lets him.

Time for Earl to step up (lol)
