DriveClub (Evolution Studios/PS4) announcement trailer. [PS3 WHEELS ARE SUPPORTED]

Formula 1 for PSX had commentary.

It wasn't great, even taking into consideration the age of the game.

I thought the commentary was great considering the age, just limited in scope and execution. I would really love for a driving game to have lots and lots of commentary making it feel like a live event.

I loved Bizarre's Formula One game on the PS1, I played it sooooooooooo much.

I really miss the PS2 days when the architecture actually favoured 60fps games. So much 60fps goodness on PS2
Architecture had nothing to do with it. 30 or 60 is a design decision. End of.

Forza Horizon could easily be 60 if they were willing to sacrifice graphics. Ditto for PGR, NFS and so on.

Gran Turismo is 60fps right? And it still looks incredible. Why can't other racers do that too?

Gran Turismo on PS1 was only 60FPS on a particular track I remember.

The more Recent ones have been a mixed bag with framerates all over the place depending on which mode you are in and whether or not you are racing other vehicles.

Warhawk and Genji

*edit* No wait, Genji was QAA. Warhawk and some PSN games iirc.

No surprise that they're early generation games. Most internal devs used 2xMSAA or one of the newer techniques. I believe that 4xMSAA eats up a lot of RAM, which is why third party devs drop it from multiplatform games even when the 360 version has that type of AA.

Well I must need my eyes checked, there was enough aliasing, texture shimmering/filtering issues to put me off. It looks 10x better during replay.

There are no AA changes between replay or normal gameplay. Nor are there any model swaps.

Photo Travel does run at native 1080p with model swaps but again, no AA changes.

That said, GT does have it's aliasing problems. ( http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4807/dodgyalpha1jpg.jpg ) but it's do to it's low resolution alpha effects (rain/dust/smoke), other then that it's one of the cleanest games this generation. It's worth noting that the game also uses TemporalAA and as such it's not visible in screenshots.

Why? Kutaragi designed the PS3 and the overwhelming majority of racing games ran at 30fps. Including all Sony developed racing games with the exception of GT.

It also has to be said how Evolution developed Formula One Championship with 60fps at mind and then apparently ditched it for skylight effects.

However, it is shame how those same skylights (late afternoon ones) made game literally unplayable in Time Trial mode due to absolute blinding that HDR produced.

Vanilla should make some direct-capture shots of F1:CE, that game still have some of the greatest F1 modelling ever seen in business.

How did that get through development?

It's not exactly something that slipped QA, it's an hardware limitation. Several games have the same issue.

I mean, surely they could have found a better balance? I would have taken higher resolution alpha effects for a maximum of 720p instead of pseudo 1080p. I'm sure most would agree

Not bad for a launch title - F1 2012 by Studio Liverpool would have been something special if it wasn't for that fucking horrible little troll.

And those god rays are indeed terrible, but thankfully they can be disabled, in fact all the lighting and gfx effects can be changed as each track has 4 text files with all the data.

Disabled:

I didn't even realize Forza Horizon was 30fps. Goes to show unnoticeable it is outside of a side-by-side comparison.
I can notice it but its so damn solid it doesn't matter. I'd still prefer 60fps, but if its as locked as Horizon I'd be OK with 30fps if that meant more driving conditions and dynamic effects (lighting, weather, snow, etc).

But that shouldn't be a problem on the PS4. I mean if DriveClub couldn't achieve lighting, weather and dynamic effects at consistent 60fps in 1080p then that really reflects badly on the system.

With this big focus on online play, am I the only one to think it will be the first PS4 game to be offered with PS+ ? (maybe even at launch)

to me its so noticeable, the fluidity of 60fps is second to none, well..apart from 120 ;)

New details coming soon:

DRIVECLUB ‏@driveclub 25m

We’ve just been at the Supercar dealership of @Matt_Loughran_ to measure up some amazing cars for #DRIVECLUB. What's your dream car?

We can't really say much right now, but we'll be revealing details of customization soon. Stay tuned.

We already say cars with team paintings, there was bound to be some. I don't think we'll see something as complex as Forza livery editor though.

When people say customization, they usually lump performance and visual mods in with livery and paint. I don't know whether that's implied here or not.
I'm more interested in performance modifications and visual enhancements such as wheels, kits..etc. rather than livery painting.

I guess we'll have to wait and see..

I do hope there is more to the game than team v team race track only racing or just general race track only, talk about average...

I just wish they pushed more for an open world driving game with friends than this, but with actually good physics and an MMO ( so TDU, but much better physics, graphics and more focused on driving, racing and cars)

I loved TDU despite its jank and would love to see another game like that... but I wouldn't expect that here.
