So was Turok 2008 our last decent chance at Hot Dino battle action™?

Turok_2008.jpg

So I liked this game quite a bit actually (Thanks Bish!)

The mechanics, action, and overall gameplay where much more solid than most gave it credit for and, gasp, I actually dug the story and voice actors. I mean shit, look at this cast:

Ron Pearlman
Timothy Olyphant
Donnie Walhberg
William Fitchner
Powers Boothe

Clearly Disney had high hopes for this one.

But yeah, a solid f*ckin' game where actually fighting the Dinosaurs was good and not just some glitchy novelty like most games that have come out since.
I just want to battle some Dinosaurs!
I want Dino-Damage™!

Is the industry done trying? :(

I finished this game and I don't remember anything about it. That's how forgettable it was. I think the protagonist had a knife or something.

It wasn't Warner it was Disney.
And yes in terms of Turok that's probably the last well see unless Disney shops the IP around again. I loved the game to OP even if it was a bit rough. The setting with space marines and Dino's was just so cool and personally a step up from the N64 games

Hate how they turned the misadventures of a time travelling Native American into Gears of War.

Monster Hunter's still kl tho

I was just thinking about Turok the other day. Man, I loved Turok and Turok 2 on N64. Would love to see a reboot.

Never played Turok 08'. Searched some gameplay and made it 2 minuets into the opening stage before I decided that I won't ever play Turok 08'.

If you've ever watched ResearchIndicates LP of Jurassic Park: Trespasser, that could EASILY be the best dinosaur game ever if it was made today and had less emphasis on the QWERTY hands. Lots of potential with that style of game, honestly.

Turok 1 and 2 weren't bad. I'd imagine they'd be a lot better with some modern mechanics. It was easy to get lost in the fog, which made for really confusing levels.

But those weapons. Still the best in an FPS. YOU HAVE A PORTABLE NUKE!

The game was great, wasn't quite what I was wanting as a Turok game but still a blast.

I'll always be holding out in anticipation of the next Turok/Dino game cause it will eventually come. Just when..........

Turok 1 & 2 were amazing games. Just really really fun games to play. The music was incredible as well. Those tribal drums. Fantastic.

You right about the weapons. Who could forget the cerebral bore.

I keep hoping for a modern reboot that goes back to it's roots done by a team who understand what made Turok great in the first place. Dinosaurs, lizard people, platforming and great guns.

Dinos are so underused in games :( I wish they would make a comeback like zombies. Hoping for a TPS dino game though. So sick of FPS.

I hope the Primal Carnage game for PS4 turns out good. It has a lot of potential, but it wasnt as fun as it should have been. The idea of a L4D style game with din's instead of zombies sounds perfect. Unfortunately it wasnt executed as well as it should have bee,

PC mods always pop up in game engines but never end up getting finished because the talent behind them gets absorbed into pro developers.

Disney licensed the Turok IP. I doubt they still actually own any of the rights.

Thanks for making this thread.

Turok rights have reverted back to Classic Media, afaik.

My personal feeling (and that of publishers I've spoken with) is that a typical shooter that drops in dinosaurs isn't going to get it done these days, but we'll see. There has to be something more.

Maybe I should do a Kickstarter.

What was your role on the project?

What's the best version of this to get ? It's the one dinosaur game I've never got round to playing and I heard the PC version was pretty horrific. 360 maybe ?

Atomsk already brought it up but Jurassic the Hunted is actually a pretty decent romp. Not mind blowing by any means but good for what it is.

If you're going to get it, get it for one of the HD consoles

IMO 360's your best bet, PS3 ver. has some vomit inducing, violent screen tearing.

Senior designer on the first one, and WHOOPS NOTHING TO SEE HERE MOVE ALONG

Yep.

Funny this thread should come up today, I was just watching the Son of Stone DVD a little while ago. That is one bloody cartoon.
