So was Turok 2008 our last decent chance at Hot Dino battle action™?

The demo was just so incredibly bland and unfun.

Yeah the demo did not do this game any favors.

As a huge Turok fan I played the demo and I hated it, trashed it quite a bit. Until some personalities I trusted said the full game was much better. Bought the game, didn't regret it a bit. Beat the campaign twice and had fun both times, it had its problems but it was a solid game.

Disney licensed the Turok IP. I doubt they still actually own any of the rights.

Excellent

Thanks for making this thread.

Turok rights have reverted back to Classic Media, afaik.

My personal feeling (and that of publishers I've spoken with) is that a typical shooter that drops in dinosaurs isn't going to get it done these days, but we'll see. There has to be something more.

Maybe I should do a Kickstarter.

Id support a kick start for a new Turok pretty heavily.

Yep.

Funny this thread should come up today, I was just watching the Son of Stone DVD a little while ago. That is one bloody cartoon.

Wait, did you work on the N64 Turok? My friend and I LOVED that game. Spent hours and hours just having fun with it.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this game. I think lame demo + Turok name being used inappropriately = haters gonna hate.

One thing I liked was how varied the environments were and how stressful dinosaur battles became. I just wish they didn't call it Turok. Maybe 'Dinosaur World'. Ha. I kid.

Propaganda going was a sad day.
YES. An amazing team who took on a significant technical and creative challenge and met it head-on. Friends for life.

I'm not a fan of QTEs, but at least in Turok there was some connection to what was happening on the screen and the buttons you were pressing and not just PRESS X TO NOT DIE/DO SOME SPINNING COOL SHIT.

Mang I love dinosaurs. There was a series of time travrling hunting games on the PC a while back, most of them revolved around dinosaurs. Never played them, were they any good?

I would be interested in a Turok: Dinosaur Hunter that was actually what it said on the box. Not dinosaur aliens, actual dinosaurs, and you have to really hunt them, i.e., tracking them, not exposing yourself to other predators, etc.

No Prob! :)

I really mean it though. Solid game and have fond memories of my playthrough on 360

What's the best version of this to get ? It's the one dinosaur game I've never got round to playing and I heard the PC version was pretty horrific. 360 maybe ?

Pretty sure 360 version ended up being the best IE: Cheevos, motionblur, bug-free, etc.

bishoptl, is there a legal way to get a download version or a key for turok 2008? I never played it and I would like to try it out!

We know! :(

Starting off in the caves was not a good idea at all, in retrospect. One day when I no longer give a fuck I'll do a writeup. Today is not that day, however.

lol, it's still in my PS3 download history ...I think I'm go download it now actually (^___^)

That's funny, I was thinking of the caves demo when this thread popped up and how awkward the experience felt. Really turned me off of the game.

Sorry man.

Thanks very much :) I'll maybe take a look in town tomorrow and see if I can pick that bad boy up cheap, I liked the demo and always wanted to try the full game.

A Turok game needs to happen and it must be made in Cry-Engine 3. Playing Crysis 3 with a bow and arrow on that level with tall grass made me miss Turok so much.

I do think better graphics would have helped make your game sell a bit better, but of course I have nothing to back that up, just opinion. CE3 seems like a good fit for that type of game though, especially now that Crysis is over. Imagine the tessellated Toad but on as a T-Rex instead! The problem, I think was that Turok came out at a time when FPS's were a dime a dozen and aside from dinosaurs, nothing really made it stand out. It looked like a lot of other games. It also didn't help that it the last game before it tarnished it some. If a remake happens, level and weapon design have to be good enough to get people talking. Bring back the Cerebral Bore! The genre seems to have tapered off some now and we have next gen systems coming out so it might be a good time to give it a shot. I'd put down money on a Kickstarted, especially if it used CE3.

It was called Carnivores.
They're cheap goofy fun. Cityscape is not a hunting game though and I hear its pretty garbage.

Just happened to beat this yesterday coincidentally!

It doesn't really do anything wrong; it's a pretty good game mechanically. I have a few complaints about the combat and the AI but really the worst part of the game is the space-marine-ification of Turok and that it's generally a pretty forgettable experience. Fighting dinos is generally OK but fighting so many armored soldier humans is just zzz.

That and the way you get knocked on your ass but insta-swivel toward whatever hit you, leaving you not only disoriented but half blind from red screen blur damage (which I already hate). And that stupid spider tank thing where you basically have to run to the goal before you're given the mission objective or else you die over and over and over again.

Oh, and whoever made only 10 of the 43 achievements single player: fuck you.

Why isn't there a Jurassic Park Tycoon?

I know Zoo Tycoon has a dinosaur mod, but the only topdown Jurassic Park thing I know of is Chaos Island which is NOT a tycoon game. Like, let me hire researchers, security, develop electric fences, dna studying, egg creation, import cows to lower into my raptor dens

is this the game where at the FPS was going through the phase of melee kills everything in 1 hit ? cos im pretty sure this game suffered from that and really annoyed me

The secret is that there is a long-running series of awesome dinosaur games.

It's called Monster Hunter.

Why is it when people talk about dinosaur games, they talk about games where they're the humans? That's terrible.

I want to be the fucking dinosaur.

I played it during my achievement obsesssion and got the full 1000. I remember the knife kills and that I rather enjoyed it, but not any other specifics than that.

Although to be fair my memory aint great - all I remember of the original Turok is FOG.

Bish, can we have a new Turok game next gen :(

-like the original on N64
-little to no story
-ridiculous weapons like the "chronoseptor"
-big open areas for exploration.

Talk about awesome nostalgia!

Best game featuring dinosaurs of all time.

Hell, you could play AS A RAPTOR.

I loved this game so much growing up.

All the recent Sega remake/remasters leave me hopeful.

I agree about a the 'typical shooter + Dinosaurs' not bring enough now. At least, its not likely going to be a financial success if it sees the typical AAA dev costs. Third person action/survival/adventure on the other hand would be really interesting.

Please do a Kickstarter. Please. I liked Turok.. it wasn't perfect, but I liked it.

Hey Bish, if you ever manage to get one started and you need consultants on your dinosaurs. I'm willing to do it for free.

Sure, and bring me in while you're at it haha. I work at the Carnegie and have access to many resources.

I LOVED the N64 Turok 1/2. Lobed them! The GC/Xbox/PS2 Turok bored me early on. Though never did get much beyond the initial area. Also never played the 360 game.

Maybe you can answer this bish. Any reason why execution kills was gory against dinosaurs, but absolutely no blood when performed on humans?
