Earthbound Coming to Wii U Virtual Console in NA / Europe

i'm happy and all, this is a great moment, but still, *WHY* no 3DS option? I would play it way more on my 3DS :(

Gotta sell those WiiU's.

This is great. I was making plans to finally buy the snes cart before it got any higher, so hopefully this brings it down a bit. I just wanted the play the game, and now I can actually throw money at Nintendo for some fucking earthbound.

Why is everyone so convinced this is for only Wii U and not for regular Wii as well? In the Nintendo Direct they just said it was coming to the Virtual Console, they didn't specify that it was for Wii U VC only.

Paging Amir0x! Private message I sent to myself back in 2007:

Don't know if you're even still active / unbanned, but if so consider this my request. :)

I'll take up that offer :P

Earthbound!

I actually considered buying a Wii U just to show my support.
And for Lego City Undercover.

Edit: My dream is having SNES games on my 3DS. The NES games are amazing. I just want to play Mega Man X and other classics on the go, too.

I guess I'll claim one before they're all gone too.

EDIT: Darn, guess I was too late. Ah well, no big loss.

Because Nintendo isn't supporting the Wii any more, kind of like how all the 3DS vc games never came to the DSi.

Now I hope all of the people that have been fighting for this over the years actually pony up. It's easy to say "I'd spend $200 on this!", but spend nothing when it comes out.

In assuming it'll be $8.

$8 dollars.

C'mon people.

I could see $10. I'd be fine either way.

Dude, I posted earlier there is an indie store down here in Ft Lauderdale that has a copy for 75. I saw it a couple weekends ago.

And 200 bucks for it is an assramming.

It's probably gone by now. Somebody smarter than you probably bought it for $75 and turned around and flipped it for $200.

Gosh, the backlash from people on all these announcements is just nuts. Its not like *any* dev time for real Wii U games are being taken just for porting EarthBound.

This is great news. If anything, it'll now be able to be experienced by thousands of more people. Not everybody is able to justify ~$200 eBay bids on a cart, especially kids today.

Nintendo rustled everyone's jimmies. Let them vent, the poor things.

Nintendo's been trolling Earthbound fans for years (kind of). Now that we know the game is coming, looks like NeoGAF members have taken up those reigns.

Recognition? It's the same damn game you played 20 years ago. Congrats. You are win.

There's no reason to be a jerk about things. If you've read through the thread (and I'm guessing you haven't) you'd see a ton of people are happy and excited about this. You don't feel that way, fine, but a lot of people do. So let them be happy and you can go into the Call of Duty thread or wherever.

Hopefully if this does well we could MAYBE, M A Y B E see Mother 1 and 3 also released here. I got a reproduction cart this year of Mother 1 in English that I need to play through.

I don't really get the negativity here. I mean, yeah, Wii U is a bit of a flop system, but this is a huge deal for fans of the series outside of Japan, and they're getting recognition in an incredibly meaningful way after years upon years of waiting.

Better late than never.

Holy mother of! I can't believe this is happening! I've never played the game and the cost of the SNES cart prevented me from playing it! I can't wait to finally play Earthbound, the icing on the cake is playing it on the gamepad!

Alot of people wanted this for years, So its HUGE news for them. I really cant believe some people are trying to downplay the significance of this. Nintendo literally went from basically denying the games existance (outside Japan) to announcing it for NA/EU.

You should also see this as a ->FANSERVICE<- casue thats all that this is. And the fans are very very thankful for it. This is not supposed to be a system seller or anything.

The few people not being able to accept that and try to downplay this announcement shouldn't post in this thread IMO.

Not really much into Earthbound/Mother (Propably due to not knowing much about it) but i will give it a try when it releases!

but but it's a glorified hack of dragon warrior

I'm very happy about this; now people who've never played Earthbound before will get the chance to try it out. I already have a copy on my SNES, but I think I'll double dip for a change; replaying one of my favorite games of all time on the gamepad seems like a nice investment.

Hmmm I should sell my cart. Shit has a dead battery anyway.

They're pretty easy to replace.

So, I suppose it's a choice of replace it yourself and sell it for full price, of sell it for less to someone who will replace it themselves.

Or, you know, replace it and then keep it and enjoy it.

Those thinking prices will come down on the SNES cart shouldn't really expect that. Many big virtual console releases that were hard to obtain or import games only haven't affected the cart market much. Same goes for things like Radiant Silvergun and Guardian Heroes which got XBLA releases in updated forms.

If you want to own the cart and people start dumping them, yeah, go for it now. It's likely to remain rather sought after.

I haven't read every last post in the thread, so pre-emptive apologies if this has already been beaten to death, but Gamepad Earthbound on the shitter is going to be fantastic.

The first time I felt this way about a snes RPG was on the port of Chrono Trigger in DS for Europe now this is the second time I will experience something that was forbidden from PAL fans of this game. HUGE fanservice from nintendo kudos!!!

I grew up during the NES and SNES days but never played this game or series. I'm interested in seeing what all the hubbub is about.

Same. Let's see if the game is worthy of the hype. Is the VC release going to be identical to the original content-wise?

I'm a little worried that the people that hype it up to be so good are looking through their 20 years ago self when they played it as kids. They might like it again playing it now just due to nostalgia, but will someone like me who's never played it and is now in my 30's find it appealing, or will it be a bit too "kiddie"?

Nobody knows for sure at this point, but an inside source at Nintendo said that the point of contention with the legal issues were several music tracks so those may get changed.

Now if there's one Virtual Console title I would love to have an Iwata Asks for, it's this one. I'll never know the difference, but I can't help but wonder what was changed and why the decision was made to bring Earthbound to the Virtual Console now when it skipped the Wii.

I had a feeling that this might make it over when it was released in Japan, but there was no way that NOA or NOE were going to give a title with this much pent-up demand away for 30 cents. Still, I was quite surprised to wake up and see it announced! I'll be among those of you who will be playing Earthbound for the first time later this year for sure.
