Why does it look like shit?

Why the hell are you comparing it with FF and CT when he was talking about story-heavy Zelda games? Lol.

Thread is moving too fast, that's why.

Even in the context of Zelda it's fairly story-light. OoT-on is when things got noticeably story-heavy.

From first impressions it looks a little too cartoony and childish but I'm sure it'll grow on me.. Still cool to see, and this year for EU!!! :D

A Link to the Past had great graphics back in 1991.

If that would've been considered great graphics back then, these reviewers wouldn't have criticised it. There were games with more impressive graphics back then already.
But nonetheless, as I said, as long as the game is good I don't care too much about graphics anyway and Nintendo surely had its reasons to do it like that.

Sorta wish there was a way to play this now.
There are ROMs of it and so far it works fairly well. From the concept it is basically Majoras Mask 0.5, since several events happen at certain times that you can miss.

I think sprites are done with. It's great to have a retro look, but I think a wider audience is just used to 3D models right now. And you can't say in this case that the sprites in LttP looked considerably more detailed/well animated.

If I get to play with buttons I'll preorder...

If it has Phantom Hourglass controls I'll pass...

But I hope they give us the option to give Link his proper pink hair.

I'm sure it will be a very fun game, but i feel a little disappointed, especially coming from the Ocarina of Time 3D which was a gorgeous game.
Somehow this game looks very bland, i'm sure they could do much better.

I mean i was expecting something like this:

and instead we get this:

No offense to Orioto but his work has always come off as fake and plasticky to me, especially this piece. What's appealing about that pic?

Well it looks like today is your lucky day.

They wouldn't have a button prompt like that if it was stylus controlled.

Besides, there's no way Nintendo wouldn't allow you to use buttons for LTTP 2. Not for an SNES-throwback title like this.

I'm not feeling it at all. Whether it's the mario-esque enemies and super bounce, the weird graphics etc.

Although this is just a simple image, I wanted it to be more like this if they made a sequel.

I'll wait and see with this one. If it ends up being the NSMB of Zelda, aka the death of creativity in the series, that would suck.

Does anyone know when the downloadable trailer will be available for the 3ds? I asked a workmate to bring his console to see it, but I dunno if it's actually out yet :/

To be fair, that's a pretty crappy quality screenshot taken from Nintendo Direct. The OP has better quality screens.

Not to mention it looks a lot clearer in 3D. My only problem with it is I think the edges of the grass and cliffs should be more well-defined instead of grading into each other.

This image is lame. What's so appealing about it that people keep bringing up? The only good part is the rain/fog affect.

But they already released a sequel to ALttP 20 years ago.

This just seems like ALttP - Master Quest. I know I'll end up buying it (because the original is my favorite game of all time), but I'm not all that stoked.

I am loving classic style Link. It resembles the artwork for LTTP. This is what I have wanted them to use for a while. It is a nice change from the over used Wind Waker and Twilight Link. No touch screen garbage makes this even better!

I'd rather it have looked like an updated Minish Cap than the Mario-esque crap we got.

LttP is my favorite game of all time, the first game I ever got 100% completion on and I was still a boy. No guides, no walkthroughs etc.

I'm so letdown by the style and graphics. So corny.

It's Good Art™.

Also, Orioto did a good job with that image; ended up looking a lot like what Nintendo did later on with this game. With a little saturation change, it would look very close to that.

Fuck yea! Buttons are better than stylus.

It's nice to hear that they extended the main zelda theme just like they did with zelda la in the past. you can almost hear the full song in the intro video

The darkness draws your attention away from the simplistic, unimpressive environment and onto Link and his expression, his unsettling feeling stepping out into the downpour in the middle of the night to look for his uncle... it's drawing attention to the story and your nostalgia, not the visuals. It's about anything but the actual environment details and textures.

People are comparing it to a screenshot of Link swinging his sword at a chuchu in the most generic looking part of Hyrule possible. And no story connection or 20-year-old nostalgia bonds.

I just realized this is the first (new) Zelda with a Magic Meter since The Wind Waker ten years ago.

Not especially keen on the idea of them flat out reusing ALttP's overworld though.

I'm semi-disappointed they didn't reuse the Link's Awakening/Oracle overworld theme.

Was hoping the game would look like Ocarina Of time 3D....:(

This just looks kind of cheap, they are probably putting all resources on the WiiU version. So it's all good. :)

They appeared in four dungeons I believe but not The Tower of Hera which is what I assume the one dungeon we saw was based off of (judging by Moldorm), so I guess the smiley moles are making a big comeback.

Furthermore, Nintendo has confirmed that the upcoming game is being developed by series producer Eiji Aonuma and his team at Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development (EAD).

Unless... the person playing on this video is left handed, then he/she could be playing with the stylus with the left hand and using ABXY with the right one...

It should be pointed out that sprites in any more detail than 16-bit or Flash is damn expensive. This is part of the reason why traditional animation is not doing so hot. CGI for all intents and purposes is just cheaper to use than traditional animation.
