As a huge fan of the classic zeldas, I find myself disappointed by the art direction. It has the bubbly, cute New Super Mario Bros. vibe that I must accept is the New Nintendo, whether my nostalgic self likes it or not.
That's a plus for sure! I wish the physics were closer to the 2D games though since button pressing and analog/d-pad control allows for faster and more manual movement. But it uses buttons. Buttons!
No. Ocarina of Time 3D is also a Zelda game (and it's on the 3DS), and it looks nothing like this.
You're just trying to be difficult. You know that ALttP2 looks way more like the DS games than any of the 2D games. Obviously, the perspective plays a big part, and the simplified look (the art style). These comparisons should not be made if ALttP 2 was using 2D sprites or had a non-chibi artstyle.
Wonder if the Dark World is in? The overworld in ALTTP is pretty barebones when compared to later entries (TheGBC/GBA games, PACKED FULL OF shit to do)
Oooooooor it's the newest zelda game.
Chibi characters work better for a top-down perspective than normal proportions.
Biggest surprise in this thread are people suggesting ALTTP doesn't look kiddy, I don't know how you can play that game and not notice the cartoony look of it all.
Is this sarcasm? They look very, very similar to me. ALttP 2 looks better, as a 3DS game should, but it looks more like the DS games than the SNES ALttP or Minish Cap.
Taking a "NSMB approach" is a loaded phrase for a game nobody's played yet. NSMB is the combination of a safe art style, but also the typical 2D Mario gameplay. Whilst the game looks quite simplistic I'll grant you, that hieroglyphic mechanic along with the level traversing hammer thing we saw means that NSMB this aint.
Seriously, people are misremembering how that game looked.Biggest surprise in this thread are people suggesting ALTTP doesn't look kiddy, I don't know how you can play that game and not notice the cartoony look of it all.
Maybe, but the PH/SS/ALttP2 look just doesn't appeal to me at all. 2D sprites work even better for 2D games.Chibi characters work better for a top-down perspective than normal proportions.
Going to guess it was removed due to constraints or something along those lines. The last time they used ALttP's overworld was BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets

The most dramatic change between games was that part of Lake Hylia got destroyed. hopefully they'll do a bit more than that with this game.
I much prefer ALttP2's artstyle to be perfectly honest.

No actually. I watched 1080p footage, which does bring out the color, but it's just that 2.5D, top down look that I just don't like. It looks generic, like New Super Mario Bros. to me. For this type of game, I would have appreciated 2D sprites a lot more. Same with Yoshi's Island 3DS (though, I'll admit ALttP2 looks miles better than that game). You guys complaining about the art, have you watch the video on the eshop in 3d? It looks fantastic in motion on the screen its intended for
I don't know if people remember the original reception ALTTP got, but when it was released it was criticized for the underwhelming graphics that did not take advantage of the SNES. I found the EGM review: http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=7826650&publicUserId=5739595
ED: "Everything except the graphics gets the best score possible. Unfortunately Nintendo let us down when it comes to the graphics, there is nothing spectacular here."
Martin: "The graphics aren't the best for the Super NES, but they are an improvement over the first 2 titles"
I guess my point is, ALTTP looking like ass didn't prevent it from being one of the best Zelda games, so I'm hyped for this one!![]()

I don't think so. The way the sword swipes are combo'd seems slower, as if Link still attacks with taps on the touchscreen as apposed to the really quick combo swiping you can do in ALttP or the GBC games. I could be wrong, though. Enemies fly back farther as well (like in the DS games), so it seems like it just plays like PH/SS, but with buttons. I'm glad the touchscreen is gone, but the physics are slow, dodgy, and boring--assuming it is the same game engine as the DS games (which it seems to be).It looks about as fast as any other 2D Zelda in the trailer. 60 FPS is always a plus too.
Exactly. AlttP is, when it comes to graphics, mediocre at best. But it's still a good game.
So I have no doubts that this will be wonderful, too. The painting thing is quite different and having no ammo anymore (it seems like it) is quite the change.

A Link to the Past had great graphics back in 1991.Exactly. AlttP is, when it comes to graphics, mediocre at best.

I really wish it was the same engine as the 2D games since its faster paced and more fun.
Most likely. The game was a downloadable title for SNES.

Go go female Hero.
I wouldn't really call PH/ST "full-blown" 3D Zelda games.
Unfortunately not every one can see 3D, while other people hate the eye strain that it causes, and because of that there will never be a main line Nintendo game that is going to be designed for the 3D effect. Sure, some games will benefit from the 3D but even then it mostly ends up being an extra feature that usually adds nothing to the gameplay.
I really can't imagine a game being completely designed around 3D, unless it a smaller downloadable game, or 3D becomes the only way to play in the future. Which I don't see happening.

Seriously, not even an original DS? I'm not even a big handheld gamer myself but I can say you've missed several awesome gems from the last few years. You're plenty overdue, my friend.
Dude, I completely forgot about those guys.Did you like, never face these annoying little bastards in LttP? -->![]()
I may be wrong. Besides, the player controlling Link in the trailer is most likely playing it slow on purpose to display the game. I forgot to take that into account.I think we'll have to play it in order to really understand the physics, but just looking at it (I played through Link's Awakening yesterday), the sword swipes look just as fast, and the time to charge for a spin attack is the same. *Shrugs*, I don't have any numbers, but that's just how it looks to me.
So this will be using LttP's overworld? I am a little confused on this aspect. On the one hand, an overworld like a LttP's is better than the stuff in recent games, but I was hoping for something like a LttP's in size and detail, but you know totally new. Unless I am making the wrong assumption here. Really excited for new Zelda with 2D gameplay. Going into the walls seems cool too. But that overworld thing has me a bit confused.
New The Legend of Zelda...
Bland art and cheap-looking graphics.
You know what'd be a cool Master Quest-type bonus?
