Supposedly it was a robbery gone wrong and a cop was killed in the crossfire. Though that was only the first reports of it. At this point we have no idea if it's connected at all.

This. Plus how do you just toss a pressure cooker bomb at someone? If it was anything like what was used in the bombings it would have been a much bigger explosion than what was reported.

That said, any kind of explosive device large or small is a very unusual thing for a robbery suspect to be carrying.
