I don't think any specific type of explosive has been confirmed. Certain a pant-load of gun shots and some booms that indicate some types of explosions.

They were saying grenades or some type of explosive on the scanner when everything broke loose. The suspects stole a State Police SUV, so it's possible they obtained weapons from inside that vehicle. Nothing is confirmed at the moment though, just what we've heard on the scanner.
